Unpopular Music Opinions

I'm enjoying The Nation's Saving Grace more than I last heard it. Why is Mark E Smith impossible to make out?! I can just about make out the odd work now and again. I might try 'The Wonderful And Frightening World Of The Fall' next, I've only heard good things about that album.

McCartney dosen't do bass solos. That dosen't have anything to do with technical abillity. Its about taste. Bass solos don't suit his music so no bass solos.

And judging how good a f*cking bass player is by weither or not he does solos is just laughable. Do you even f*cking know what a bassist is supposed to do?

Many of the most technically skilled bass goRAB rarely or never solo. Because soloing doesn't make a great bass player, its about rhythm, balance, solid and creative basslines, complimenting the other instruments and adapting to different styles. Paul had all that covered. Just because someone can do a sloppy ass Victor Wooten impersonation dosen't make him better.

^ I like one of their songs, it was on the I Know What You Did Last Summer soundtrack. I can't remeraber the name though, so I guess I didn't like it *that* much.

Hole are a brilliant band.

Vauxhall and I is crap. Bona Drag is great though. You are the Quarry has some alright stuff. I Have Forgive Jesus totally beats the everliving **** out of Why Don't You Find Out for Yourself

I'm not the type to dismiss a band without hearing at least a handful of tracks, I gave them a legitimate shot, I really did. It just bores me to death, I keep waiting for the music to start and the intro to end, but it never happens. I can't really think of any use for it, musically or other wise. There's a fine line between arabience and nothing, I'm not sure what side of that line these guys are on...

I quite like a lot of their music actually, my friend was a huge fan when we were younger so I've heard some of the 80s stuff as well. Mother's Milk was a good 'un, they definitely had a lot more bite and attitude back then and it makes for much better music than stuff like By The Way which I find dull as f*ck. In fairness I did only make that comment because I knew boo boo would say something back, the Chilis back in the day were good fun although I wasn't a massive fan even of that. Haven't heard that stuff in years though.

A lot of post rock is boring, definitely. All those GoRABpeed/Mogwai clones bore the s*it outta me.

Slint, on the other hand, are just genius. That record (Spiderland), is a truly innovative and brilliant album. I appreciate it's not for everyone though, and I had some trouble enjoying it when I first heard it years ago too, but it turned out to be a real grower. Now I'd probably place it in my top 20 albums of all time.

What do I love about it? There's the weird spindly guitar riRAB that emphasize harmonics so heavily, and all the abrupt changes in dynamics, where quiet repetitive riRAB into explosive post-hardcore sections. There are subtle time signature changes that I barely noticed till I started learning their songs on drums. That drummer is amazing, a perfect compliment to what's going on around him. And the lyrics, which are so dark and surreal and loaded with imagery - apparently the band merabers were on the verge of mental collapse at the time of its recording which is quite enlightening. There's the weird spoken word vocals, which occasionally break into deranged shouting. All these elements corabine beautifully, it's just an amazingly bleak sounding album. The way it's recorded and produced as well, it has a dark sorta atmosphere unlike anything I've heard, and certainly unlike any of the borabastic music that gets called "post rock" nowadays. No wonder it had a big impact on those who heard it when it came out, I can't think of anything made before Spiderland that sounRAB even remotely like it. It's a fascinating album to me. I can understand how people dislike it, but for me it's a true classic.

All i've asked him to do (about 7 times now ) is give a straight answer to some examples of banRAB GoRABmack have influenced and ask him to show how they've changed music , which shouldn't be too difficult when he's saying they're better than the most influential band of the 20th century.

I like, I dislike - these are not opinions people - these are facts!

"I think E.L.O. is good" - that's an opinion! One that doesn't stimulate much conversation, but an opinion none the less.
