Underage Nudity Being Shared On The Gnutella Network - Porn and Laws

If you end up with Underage material on your computer you better errase it a.s.a.p. rather than binning it.
Spybot S&D has a errase function.
Just don't leave it on your harddrive, and especially NOT in your shared folder.
Downloading by accident is one thing, but having available for upload.........

The screwed up laws make it dangerous to report it, so better not.

Use an eraser to erase all free space on the harddrive, then defragment and do the same thing over again.

If you want porn then use other sources that are better kept control of. The Gnutella network isn't being monitored as to what can and can't be shared. If it was then it would fast be no porn, no movies, no music and no nothing.

As Peerless said, no one can honestly put stuff on your computer because you use LW or any similar filesharing software.

I suppose viruses and the other malware he mentions might trick your machine into becoming a source of illegal files, but that has nothing to do with proper filesharing software. Email or Web browsing would be equally at risk if you have a Windows machine.

LimeWire only shares the files YOU decide,so carefully check your Library Pane to see if those are the files you approve.

For a more "official" statement, see the link on LW's home page called "Click Here for Important Information about Using P2P Software Safely" http://www.limewire.com/english/content/ftc.shtml

Most such 'western' Laws are extremely intrusive and offensively stupid.
As with most drugs, guns, many other 'illicit' items (i.e. those not understood or approved of by the Tribal Witchdoctors of the society), simple possession is enough - even if you didn't know the stuff was there.

Neither the Law-makers (the Pollies), the Courts & law enforcement Nor the average members of the public understand *anything* about the Internet, P2P, Usenet, Online Apps etc. etc.

In a long tradition of entrenched ignorance and bigotry that goes back to before The Pious & Insane Torturers of the Christian Church's 'Inquisition' thru the Witch-hunts of Salem, Nazism, the McCarthy horrors in the US to the Current 'War on Drugs', 'Tough on Crime' and 'War on Terror' *nonsense* that's used to 'justify' appalling legislation destroying our privacy & basic liberties, the approach to 'The Internet and Child Porn' is as fundamentally stupid and unjust:

If you're reported/investigated and found 'in possession' you have as much chance of 'Justice' as young Nguyen Tuong Van (Arrested: Waiting in Singapore Airport *transit* on his last leg home - he hadn't even entered the barbarous place - Jailed & Hanged on a ludicrous pretext: Importing & Trafficking! http://tinyurl.com/744gc) or young Australian 'Innocent abroad', Schappel Corby (http://tinyurl.com/b5kcr) -arrested arriving from Oz at Bali airport , when customs 'found' 4kg of cannabis leaf in her bodyboard bag - Faced Death, got 20 years in an Indonesian Hellhole..If you don't know, taking Cannabis to Bali is like sand to the sahara - it's about 100 times cheaper there than *anywhere* in Civilisation! Utterly ridiculous and entirely barbaric & corrupt -They didn't even fingerprint the plastic it was wrapped in! The going rate is about A$100,000 for the charges to 'go away' or even just a Sentence reduction...-If interested, read this moron, too: http://tinyurl.com/af8aw -'The Law must prevail' no matter what the outcome!]

Precisely the same 'principle' applies to Child porn: if found 'in possession' you have *NO* chance, no excuse - which means *any* computer user/ISP could face serious criminal charges at any time.

It is bad Law and it should be changed.
But that's the way it is.

There's no point in trying to get porn on P2P networks.

Sure, you can get a lot of it but you also get a lot of crap you really don't
want and tons of low quality spam and worms, not to mention the occasional
well-intentioned but ultimately useless traps set by activists and inexperienced
cops or prosecutors looking for a headline and the more dangerous traps set by
blackmailers.

It's far safer and more efficient to get a safe newsgroup reader like
NewsLeecher and browse around the alt.binaries groups. Don't use things like
Outlook or you will probably get infected by the occasional worm and never
download software unless you are actually in a software group. There's still a
lot of spam but once you find a good group and get used to it the spam will be
easy to spot and avoid, especially as the regulars who hang out tend to post
warnings whenever it shows up.

Most importantly, you can't be spied upon by strangers as you browse around,
so if you stumble over something icky you can just delete it and move on.

Hey Aaron, not all underage nudity is porn. Its explicitly defined in the law. Look at all the Fed and Supreme Court decisions on the subject-if its not the product of abuse then it will most likely fall under the protection of the law. You can even go to Barnes and Noble and by books with young teen girls, yes, fully nude. So since you don't have a law degree stop posting idiotic comments that have no logical or legal grounding. Nudity is not porn, its what is being done to the child or teen, and/or what they are doing to themselves.

I've engaged a few people in this thread, including a monitor, in conversation about getting investigated by police and other agencies.

When actually asked for details of past arrests the monitor finally had to admit he fabricated or enhanced stories to scare people away from downloading porn. He actually scared the wits out of some 16 yo who came here for advise on how to permanently get rid of a file and had the kid looking down the block for cop cars.

It's clear that the cops at all levels of government are after the uploaders as that's where the money is. The only guy I heard about being busted for downloading was doing it in a public library.

The only reason I monitor this thread is to make sure more kids don't have the crap scared out of them and fortunately I haven't see any such activity in over a year.

Yeah....I have just realized that. The quality, and all of the falsely named files aren't worth even trying to download porn on them. Hopefully I will be fine after deletion of all those files, it seems like all of the people who got caught with the porn had at least a hundred or more photos of CP on their computer, and I have really checked the statistics and it looks as though only 15 people were caught from their dummy file distribution and they looked at it, it looks like about a thousand people have formed a case with them for sharing these kinds of files, so it looks like the sharers are the ones they are really going for, not the ones that accidentally download it and delete it immediately......I'm guessing and hoping..

This Can Be Blocked Right! Like Umm..... by File Size! Is it Possible?
Coz This Got Damn Kiddy Prns are Disguised by Other Names, Like after I Downloaded a Movie, and it's a Kiddy Prn, You Don't Even Know if it's a Kiddy Prn or the Movie you have searched and downloaded! and I think I already shared some kiddy prns, ok.... when im downloading i just leave it their whole day! and the finished downloads are shared(the disguised kiddy prns), and i noticed that the movie i just downloaded has so many uploads! after i checked it damn it's a kiddy prn!!!
Note: no worries i always delete it right away!! but so sad i already shared some unnoticed!

yea i agree completely, there has to be over... 500 million computers in the world? and the odds that they are gonna catch you are very, very very slim.... but the fact of the matter is, you shouldnt be downloading porn off the internet anyway... watch it on HBO Late Night: =), its safer, funner, and a whole lot more action XD

Hush, please.

No need to go fighting.

@Orange County: Main question: Which kind of IP do you have?

There are two different ways IPs are given out.

In the USA many people have stable IPs. Those remain the same every time you connect to the internet. For this the USA uses most of the available IP addresses. That's called static IP.

Therefore, in the rest of the world, most people only get their IP assigned, when they connect to the internet, and lose it once they disconnect, because there weren't enough IP addresses left for all. That's called dynamic IP.

If you have a static IP, it is like a phone number.

If you have a dynamic IP, it is just a temporary number, but the ISPs know, who had it at any time (in Germany up to 3 months back).

OMG I cannot beleive you just said that I have had so many people say the same thing-- not that it makes a difference since they did decide to arraign him 1 year to the day that they arested him=strange again. thank you thank you for taking the time to reply to me because you can imagine as a Mom I am hysterical especially since this is the first time either of my kids has ever been in trouble :

Weren't you two supposed to be in the arena?

Besides: Downloading matters in germany, and since I had to repeat it multiple times:
Talk to a lawyer:
- Internetrecht - filesharing

This also informs, that the new law was made in or before 2004 - downloading has been illegal for four years, now.

Canada was different in 2003 - i don't know the current situation:
- Canada deems P2P downloading legal - CNET News.com

But that the laws don't make sense, since p2p doesn't harm the media industry was clear in 2007 again:
- Official: P2P music not harming Canada | The Register

Another question, what would a PC Recovery or System Restore do to help? In combination with defragging? Should I do one before the other?

don't look at that stuff you can go to jail just for looking at it.The FBI are hard on people that do that stuff so in other words stay fore from it okay.
