So...what does everyone think about that Matthew White CP Case? Do you think its fair/true? I'm a little confused as to the 1 year wait...or if it was really only a couple files...most of the cases i've seen where people get busted are people that are actively sharing a decent amount of CP for at least a month...but again idk how the FBI and what not work with these cases..What does everyone else think/know?

First: It's a tip they can follow up on in the most simple way: Getting a search warrant.

And I don't want to scare people away from p2p. I want to make them aware of the dangers of p2p, so they take the proper precautions to decrease the chance of getting into problems.

Sharing copyrigthed files (which aren't licensed under free or open licenses) in p2p is illegal in almost every country.

And I would be able to spot you as another downloader of a file I download myself - and I could do that at this very moment. There's no mumbo jumbo involved: Just having a look at the candidates section in Phex will get me the IP of anyone who isn't behind a LAN router (about half the people).

That's why I go for anonymous p2p, even though its speed is much inferiour to non-anonymous p2p.

You are going to give yourself a heart attack or a mental breakdown if you can worry so much over virtually nothing.

It is very unlikely that any western authority is going to monitor or worry about someone that accidentally downloads a few filthy pictures. In addition, most western laws are based on intent, i.e. did you intend to download those files. As you did not and immediately deleted the files after you found out what there were no one is going to knock on your door and seize your computer.

So pull yourself together and stop worrying over nonsense.

Since you were searching for MP3s, one would guess that you could only listen to said orgasm.

Adding "orgasm" to your filters list will remove that little annoyance. Filtering out "pthc" and "hussyfan", and, perhaps "hentai" will also help reduce the crap that shows up in your searches.

Remember to use Bitzi, it will save you hours of useless (and dangerous) downloading of mis-named or corrupt files.

HungryGhosts: They aren't coming after you; quit apologizing, go to law school, become a prosecutor, and then you can go after the people who have caused you so much angst.

Let's hope reason prevails when they see no indications your son actually
wanted that stuff. Shame on the *******s who pushed ahead on this even
though they had no corroborating evidence. They were obviously only
thinking of their own political fortunes.

you weren't 'there'...you totally misstated your concept...

you can report that IP address here: CyberTipline

you should log the time/date of the incident so that they may properly investigate...it also helps to take a screenshot of what is on your screen (i.e. their shared items)...

Yeah. Read previous messages in this thread

Most advice should be already there.

What kind of network did you use? We can't give you technical advice, if we don't know which network you used.

the thing about limewire/frostwire/bearshare ect. is that ppl use them for porn and music so be VERY careful wen looking in images and videos. as for catching the ppl i think its immposible

Oh, and sometimes renaming with any useless extension like .tmp makes them easier to delete too.

Although I cannot argue with the feelings expressed here I'm afraid that some people posting here are speaking from a moral rather than from a legal standpoint.

This serves to unnecessarily scare those of us who downloaded by accident and erased. If you fit into this category quit worrying. The authorities are concentrating on uploaders. In the lower left hand of LimeWires screen is a option to view uploadable files. If these are free of CP then you are free to go about your business.

I live in the US, actually, so not sure how the laws differ. And my question about the IP log was somebody's sig had a picture that displayed the words

Here's the link to the picture:

That was a joke, right, and not just something showing up for me? Why would this thread prompt that?

If that were illegal they'd never be able to sell swimsuits at clothing chains.

It's illegal to have sex photos and in many cases, sexualized (though how it is interpreted varies) photos, that's all.

Thanks for that virtualcoder. The sheriff was deliberately vague about what, where, when and how in that article. But no doubt he made the arrests. A Google search turns up more facts**. These guys were following invitations from "girls" they met on line. You may have heard about adults posing as girls on Facebook, You Tube and etc. Initially the sting was organized by a TV show but all those cases were thrown out. The TV crew was operating with the approval of the local cops and baited the guys in. Its called entrapment.

Now in Polk County Florida the sheriff did the same as you've pointed out. After the arrests of the guys who showed up at the "girls" home to have sex they were arrested and their homes searched where the computers were found. Presumably the sheriff was smart enough to not entrap these guys. Undoubtedly they'll make that claim and the court will have to make a decision.

Back to our situation. Chatting up a girl in some chat room, suggesting that they have sex and actually showing up often with a bottle of booze in hand is a far cry from accidently downloading and erasing an errant file.

I'm unbent. Unless laws change (including the Constitution) you're not going to get busted for download and erase. And I think you and the others should be upfront with people who come here scared out of their wits because they saw a picture of a naked 3 year old and are now worried sick the cops are driving up the street right this instant.

Peerless have you found that "a" I hid?

Hi guys and gals, I want to use the D-ban program to nuke part of my hard drive. I have a few questions. My situation is this. In the past I have 'possibly' illegally d/l copious amounts of music, movies, porn ect... from lime-wire and other programs. Since then I have deleted it from the shared folders and pasted onto the other partition on my hard-drive for library keeping and then deleted the shared folders. My thinking is this. They can't prove I didn't acquire those files by legal means and since they are all just mp3s and avi's or whatever they should be safe if they are just there or am i wrong?

First: I have all this data on one partition that is just music and movies ect... I don't want to reinstall these if possible cause its like 90 gigs so using this program can I choose to nuke just the partition that windows and programs are on (i.e. limewire and my shared folders ect... and history)? And if so how complete a nuke would this be? Would the other partition which is just media files and never had a program or anything else on it still be vulnerable to incriminating forensic analysis? I guess what I'm saying is does a partition effectively make two separate entities, in which I can clean one and be at ease? Because if alot of what I d/l was maybe pirated media and erasing all the d/l info programs and history ect... from the one partition would erase evidence no?

Also, If I backed up my partition with windows and programs on a blank hard-drive, nuked the partition, and then restored it with the copy on the back-up hard-drive would that just replace the information and stuff I was trying to remove. If so is there a way to selectively back up and nuke so that I don't have to reinstall 50 things in my program file and even windows itself, but still rest at ease knowing that the computers history is fresh at least in the eyes of any potential law in-queries?

First let me state that I have a pre-excisting condition known as Paranoid Personality Disorder, therefore I am extremely paranoid about everything that goes on around me, nonetheless through therapy I have been able to lead a rather successful life, last year in my senior year in high school I was looking for some porn (adult) and came across a video that said hot redhead pthc, I did not know what this stood for so having a thing for redheads, i dowloaded it, but it wouldn't let me preview so I cancelled but didn't delete the partial until like two months later when I found out there even was a partial left, then I found out that I was sharing partials. Also just a month ago I was looking for some videos and downloaded like eight at the time none of the titles suggested internet porn to me, but I also did not know that hussyfan was also child porn, my computer downloaded this file extremely quick but since all the videos had similar names I did not watch it after it was dowloaded b/c I just went right by it. I went out of town that week and my roomate used my computer including limewire, he still hadn't purchased his. when i came back I chose this video and as soon as I realized that it was child porn I deleted it, but ever since I have become a mess, I scrub my harddrive daily, I get scared whenever I hear a cop car coming, I have resummed smoking, which I had given up a year prior, now I'm on two and a half packs a day, I need to take a couple of valium pills in order to sleep for three hours each night, I have already had two nervous breakdowns while I was by myself at home, I haven't been abel to have sex with my girlfriend in two weeks, I just keep imagining scenarios where the feds come to my house and take me for 5 years for pocession of cp. I tanked a midterm just yesterday. I have found that people in this forum appear to know their stuff and I am about as ignorant as there can be about technology, It was an accident i didn't mean to download cp, and i didn't notice i left it on my computer for a week,(neither did my roomate), but this brought up the fact that what if someone caught on the the partial left on my parents computer, that said pthc. I can't deal with this anymore, I'M ON THE EDGE OF SANITY, since i live on a third floor i have considered jumping off a couple of times. Sometimes I just wanna turn my self in to the cops and get it over with. What scares me the most is that I will spend next semester as a exchange student in University of Madrid and I will be away from my parents, and if somebody comes looking for them, because of my ignorance I won't be around to take the blame. Can somebody tell me if my paranoia has any basis whether the cops would spend their time in tracking somebody with a single file down, also if they would how long would it take for them to reach that person, from what I have seen in some cases it took about two months after the investigation began, in others it took 6 months but i really don't know. I am desperate please give me a quick response, what is left of my sanity hangs in the balance, and I need to know what's coming. Thank You
PS **** those child molestors, because of them me, an outstanding student a decent member of society, is reduced to a dependence on sleeping pills, and cigarettes to keep from going completely crazy or even worse killing my self. If I do get thrown in jail over this, I will do everything in my power when I get out to make sure those scumbags suffer a slow painful death.

Does anybody realize the significance of these moments ?

I can only assume that it is from the grim influence of Rip, but this is the absoposifugintootly only time I have ever seen a post from Peerless without his signature. (I used to like dolphins !)

I don't know... Do you think he looks fat in that ?
