Underage Nudity Being Shared On The Gnutella Network - Porn and Laws

Getting a decent cleaner program is not a bad idea. Also being careful what you download. Using Bitzi, also preview your files as downloading to be sure they are what you were wanting. Movie download issues (click on blue link) & also How to find music in which the same principles apply to videos.

In the latter days of Kazaa it did. It was spammed with junk in an attempt to prevent people sharing copyright files in the same way other networks such as Gnutella have been attacked by such organisations; Beware of Fake files in search results, as well as porn organisations attempting to protect their products, spamming samples of their works, generally in .mov format.

An old article, but it still applies now: Quality of Content on the Network (click on link)

Ok. First let me say that child porn is a horrible, terrible thing.

Now, the police will spend time trying to catch the people who upload these videos instead of the people viewing them for two reasons:
it stops it at the source,
and that is the easiest way to get a conviction.

Waterinthefuel. You are lying to the forum, either in that you never went to prison, or in the manor that you received child pornography and your actual intent. (or, perhaps, you had a very poor lawyer.) In order to download a file from a p2p network, you must allow people to connect to your IP (which can be secured with a little effort). However, that is very difficult to trace to one particular computer, especially in 2002. If you were searching for a file called "young" by that artist, found that it was not what you wanted, and you deleted the file, the evidence used in court can very well prove your story if the particular circulating file was in fact labeled (on the p2p site)"young, kenny chesney". That title would mean you could not possibly expect the contents to be illegal porn, thus proving lack on intent. (that and you deleted the file) Because you were convicted, the courts ruled that the file you downloaded from kazza was in fact labeled in a manor that you would know what you were receiving, since your IP address came off of that particular file extension (according to your story), which would include the file name.

In America, you are innocent until proven guilty. They convicted you because they had enough evidence against you. If you truly were innocent, you would have taken the necessary measures to prove this such as providing a link to the file you downloaded to the court with its title and actual content, or replacing your hard drive immediately after you received those files.

My theory is that you were convicted of a crime which permitted the police to search your home. They found the pornography on your hard drive, and convicted you of that in addition to your original sentence. Your feeble, uneducated argument, is that you did not know what you were receiving. Please, unless you provide full court records (with the full story), don't try to obtain pity from the forum.

to the young person viewing this material. My advice to you is find a girlfriend your age, or stick to legal pornography, (even though its illegal for you to view). Porn is dangerous, and can be emotionally addicting. It can destroy marriages, careers, and lives. While child pornography is normal to you now, when you grow older it may become a dangerous obsession.

Yes (in the US).

Film is forever. Remember Miss America returning her crown after her earlier photos appeared in Penthouse?
The decision to pose nude should not be taken lightly, especially in a society where photos may prove detrimental to one's career. It is one of the many decisions that must not be made by an immature person. The cute chick at age 16 may find that she has a talent for teaching at age 24. And no telling how her future spouse would feel about those photos.

Something tells me that those Russian girls you mention are not well-compensated for their modeling. And I see no connection between young grandmothers and photos of underage girls.

I suppose you would be proud to have your friends see how hot your mom was at 16.

Dear LW Users

As far as UK law is concerned, possession of KP is illegal, distribution or any other reason doesn't come into it, if you are found in possession of this stuff then you are guilty of an offense.

So if you have accidentally downloaded this stuff, not files with false names, you delete it , and as suggested by RaaF, use Spybot or some other utility that can wipe this stuff off your hard disk because normal windows deletion will not be enough.

It would also be a good idea to filter out all adult material in your search in order to avoid anything that is too unpleasant.

The facts are simple.

The hypothetical situation where professional grade data recovery available to
police defeats the military grade data erasing software available for free to the
public does not exist. Show us one instance where it did.

There's no point anyway because collectors of porn tend to amass large collections
instead of deleting it. Most arrests you see in the newspapers report "huge" collections.

In cases where encryption is used to hide porn, the police either get lucky or they
don't in decrypting the data. Data recovery is not an issue in those cases.

Extreme grades of data recovery are never employed in minor criminal cases.
It's too expensive and only available in matters as serious as murder or national
security. The fact that it takes extremely long times is also a deciding factor
against using it in criminal cases that have statutory time limitations.

None of these facts override or invalidate any other. They go together, adding up
to the simple fact that people who accidentally download something and delete it
right away are never going to be pounced upon by high-tech warriors with magical
abilities to conjure up deleted files and destroy lives. To suggest that such a thing
can happen is irresponsible sensationalism which does the P2P community no good.

i am also worried. I am 14, and like that other guy i am normal sh*t i have many freinds and like lots of ppl my age i look at porn. I use limewire every once in a while and i am shocked when i see that weird porn in the serch results, so last night i downloaded one of a 15 yr old and i then deleted it about 1 minute after it finished downloading i only downloaded it to see if it was real and im not sure it was. I also downlaoded one about a girl and a dog and it was real, so after that i googled wierd porn on google and found this thread i was not concerned but after seeing all these posts i am very concerned, so what is the chance that i willget caught over 1 file.

btw i used eraser and erased limewire and itunes, which is where the files are from. do i need to somehow get the actual files in the trash then do it or will deleting limewire also delete the files from limewire?

Check all files with Bitzi before downloading.
Avoid files that have "PTHC" (pre-teen hard core), or "hussy fan" in their name. I suggest you block those.
Delete anything that looks illegal.

The FBI took my friend's computer and found tons of files that he had deleted (and thought he had overwritten) on his hard drive. They found that he had (accidently) downloaded a few PTHC files, but he had immediately deleted them. (My friend is gay - he likes men, not children). He was not charged. They suggested he be more careful - see below. [His case had nothing to do with file sharing.]

The FBI says:
Say you get an illegal item in your mailbox. You trash it right away; no problem.
Get more illegal stuff and trash it immediately; you may have some explaining to do. Keep illegal stuff, even if you don't share it; go to jail.

Downloading child porn, even if you're just curious to see if it's real, encourages the criminals who make that krap; they like to be watched. Let's frustrate them.
There are international agencies that are working to catch these people.

It would be wonderful if they developed a feature that worked for this.....and I will download the beta version and use filtration and hope that it works, but I am not even going to test it. LimeWire is just a p2p program that is legally used for file sharing of your own things, and unfortunately some peoples things aren't so pretty and illegal, but it is just too easy for everyone to share whatever they want in these types of programs. And as of now, that uninstall file that Limewire came with is starting to look pretty good. They also should incorporate IP banning if people are sharing illegal files, and I hope they put the good old "report" button in the program......that would do wonders for the whole network.

I'm still skeptical. Ursula are you saying that if I store a document with only the letter "a" in it and write over it with random letters other than "a" thousands of time that someone somewhere can tell me what that original letter was?

And that given time and money that person can pull out enough information to determine a file was porn and specifically child porn?

Sorry, don't buy it. Governments with billions of dollars to spend will recycle hard drives after overwriting. With that kind of money incineration would be the avenue of choice.

Please give us a reference to your information.

PS: Most of the returning people I see here are either asking how to get rid of it or telling people how to get rid of it.

In the US it is VERRRRY bad to get caught with ANYTHING on your computer that even hints at CP... It doesn't even have to be genuine either, a convincingly youthful looking 18 yr old in a video or stills who claims to be underage is just as bad as the real thing! Here's another example of how screwey it can get. A former school chum of mine who lived in New York City was 23 at the time he was engaged to his fiance. She was 17 at the time. Now in NY state 17 is the "age of consent" which means it was perfectly legal for him to have as much sex with her as he felt like... His BIG mistake was to videotape some of their intimate moments... That you see was illegal... He just got out of prison last year... Spent 5 years there... If you are gonna down porno or anything else for that matter off of Limewire or any other place, I strongly recommend you get an external slave HD and use it for downloading exclusively... This way if you do get stuck with some nassty stuff in a DL you can use a HD scrubber on it and not affect your master drive... Just food for thought... Cheers, Cappy...

Just to add to Aaron's post:I would go further and say that "Any nude picture is porn" because no one really knows where art ends and porn starts, and as such, it is a very murky area which can only be decided in a court of law.

The simple fact that you like a certain type of pictures possession of which would get you arrested in the UK (and I suspect in the US and Canada as well) and you would probably end up doing time.

Also, the fact that throughout the world the age of consent is variable, depending on custom, religion and upbringing cuts "no ice" with the laws on possession of KP, so if you are caught in the UK with a nude picture of your child bride (i.e. under 16) you would still be arrested.

Suffice to say, you have a dubious pastime that could, one day, get you into a lot of trouble

I hope I am not out of line here but I was at address: 96.20.121.169:43230 (197) and observed some of the raunchiest named kp files I've ever seen ...Thanks for your attention

Watchers of KP and makers of KP disgust people more then serial killers. A prime example of this is how hard the FBI works to throw those guys in prison. And you get a long a** prison sentence just for having one pic of a minor showing any hint of sexual innuendoes on your comp.

I ran into KP once through a false download and by accident, after that I cleaned out my computer twice. Even though everything is deleted I have this shady feeling that the crap is somewhere still on my hard drive. I'm getting a new computer and the end of this month and I plan on incinerating my old one.

thanks man, i just dont find it cute that people tag things like this and even if it isnt real, it still makes people ill. anywho, what cleaners do you recommend. i dont even know what to type in the search engine other than "computer cleaner"
