Toon Zone Talkback - Dreamworks to produce live-action Ghost in the Shell

That would only happen if Dreamworks gave up the DVD rights. And as far as I know they have their terrible, disgusting grip on it and aren't letting go.

Transformers didn't die with those shows. They were still making tons of Transformers, so obviously Hasbro was satisfied with something.

Sometimes toy lines need a gimmick to get a re-surgence.

For GI JOE it was SIGMA SIX which were the best selling GI JOE toys in years. And GI JOE will probably sell even more again when the movie comes out.

I really don't get why people are complaining about the ethnicity of Motoko's actress. Motoko may be Asian, but she doesn't have her original body anyway. She could go into another body if she wished to.

Munich would have been a masterpiece if not for the Speilbergian ending. Hopefully he can resist tacking on another family issues plot to GitS.

I don't enjoy getting off-topic but the ending to Munich was not normal for a Spielberg flick. I have to put that opinion out there.

As for a Ghost in the Shell movie: sign me up! I hope it delivers. I've been a fan of the anime film for years. It is one of my all time favorites. With the proper care and treatment of the material I see a lot of potential for a live action version being a big success and even bringing new fans to the Anime film(s).

Applesauce.

Let's see Beast Wars, 3 seasons and 52 episodes. Show has a rather formal ending.

SHOW CONTINUES with Beast Machines, 2 seasons and 26 episodes. Show finishes with formal ending where the entire BEAST WARS SAGA comes to a close and everything comes full circle and is put to rest. All the loose enRAB are tied.

The show ended, it was done. There's a difference between that and cancellation.

So five seasons and 78 episodes for an animated action cartoon show is PRETTY DARN GOOD.

You seem to keep dodging the issue. For one thing you LIED and were WRONG when you said the show got cancelled. I don't consider any show that really formally finishes telling it story and really told us everything saying it was cancelled. You implied that it was a failure and cancelled early, when it wasn't.

So what? People are still able to find these shows and watch them no matter the age. DVD, the internet, syndication, etc.

KiRAB are born all the time and then they keep making newer versions of these shows or characters so they will watch them and buy the toys.

So what is the original point you were trying to make Movie06, because now I don't know.

It doesn't have to be, but it can work. Visually at least, The Matrix has shown how anime-esque special effects can work in live-action. Scriptwise I'm a bit concerned, but that's not a matter of live-action vs. animation.

Well, my original point was that the more Hollywood introduces any book, cartoon, etc., the more people look at the original material and the same applies to Anime.

Well in theory, it can introduce the concepts in format that would reach a wider audeince, in the west.

The same reasons many comic books are made into movies.

Concepts of which would have to be horrendously durabed down to be made attractive to a mainstream North American audience. This material doesn't really play to large crowRAB.

People have moved beyond The Matrix after the disappointing sequels and don't really care about them anymore.

Sure with a ton of money you can make a live action movie that looks like Ghost In The Shell. That doesn't mean it will work or be good though.

Look at Speed Racer which looks horrendous.

Yes and no. When the V for Vendetta movie came out, sales of V for Vendetta went up (actually the most profitable book in 2006), but pretty much every other comic series was unaffected. The only thing that this movie will do is maybe boost Ghost in the Shell's DVD sales, not all of Japanese animation's sales. Maybe a comic if it has one released in America, but it'll only be temporary popularity, like how V for Vendetta dropped back down after a year. It's never a permanent surge in popularity and can't really affect the industry in a long-run.

Comparing GitS to Speed Racer is ridiculous, since the former is almost universally hailed as a masterpiece and the latter is retro shlock. Speed Racer in all honesty looks like it could be pretty entertaining for what it is. Now, if GitS was given that treatment, I'd be furious, but I'd hope someone as smart as Speilberg could see the difference between the two properties.
