Toon Zone Talkback - Dreamworks to produce live-action Ghost in the Shell

Umm:

You aren't talking about casting here. And the casting was terrible just like that whole movie.

Aeon Flux would be more of a reason why NOT to turn GITS live action.

Also Resident Evil's horrible live action movie franchise. I'm looking forward to the animated RE movie that actually looks like the games though and has characters from the game.

They don't deserve it.

Dreamworks has had 4 years to re-release Innocence and apologize to fans, and they've opted not to.

Manga Entertainment gave fans a superior version in R2, and they won't let them release it here.

This is the worst news possible for the GITS franchise.

No GITS fan should ever forget the atrocity that was the Innocence release in 2004.

Better then There will be blood? Oh whatever

It doesn't better if their popular or not, the fact is movies are good. The goal was to get an Oscar more then to be a huge mega hit. Hollywood can quality products, so they produce a lot of crap too, big deal, so does everyone else on the planet. There are lot crappy animes out there too.

I have no intention of proving such a thing, of course you could have said the same thing about a movie based on a comic book.

I'm not saying its going to work out., i'm saying you can't do anything about it.
Whether you like or not, Hollywood will at least try it once or twice, so you can complain or hope it turns out for the best, that's all you can do.

Seriously more otakus tend hope live action anime films will fail or not be made at all then comic book fans hope a comic book movie will fail or not be made. If you appear to be inappeasable, people ignore your opinions.

What was more pop culture power in the world, Hollywood or anime?

Munich got a 77% at rotten tomatoes, exactly how is that bad?

The fact is despite a few bumps, Spielberg has proven himself a talented director, he may not be perfect, but he is still one of the greatest directors of our time.

So what? It's called personal taste. You know what, I've met quite a few people in the industry that *GASP* DON'T EVEN LIKE THERE WILL BE BLOOD!

So what. You seem to be contradicting yourself saying all the crappy big Hollywood movies are king but and anime can work fine in this format. Despite a lot of the best anime being the total antithesis ofmainstream Hollywood

Or a video game. But most live action video game features still suck horribly and that doesn't seem to be changing.

Or I can express my opinions on an open discussion forum .

Once again malarkey. With no facts or basis to back it up.

Hollywood probably.

So what? Munich was a heavy handed, flawed movie that definitely had its good points. But it didn't get Spielberg the award recognition he wanted.

Is Spielberg directing this movie? Spielberg's got cred sure. That's not the point though.

Prove it. Because I didn't read this anywhere. In the last 4 years they've not lifted a finger to make good on their mistakes.

What fans wanted was a REAL DVD release for Innocence. Dreamworks couldn't even do that.

Also, Spielberg isn't really the main source of my problems. It's Dreamworks.

What Dreamworks did to Innocence and GITS fans is disgusting and detestable. They have never apologized or made up for it. I heard that Production IG was just as angry. So I'm absolutely puzzled why Production IG would allow this, and I lose a little faith in them because of it.

Most critics did, I will take their opinions over yours any day.

I never said it would work out fine per say, I can't say that.

But it seems like you are being a doom sayer, while I'm kinda neutral on the whole thing really. It seems like your opinion is based more emotion then mine is.

Your opinion is pretty baseless as well.

Video games are based on interaction and paper thin plots, is that surprising they don't work out as movies.

Manga is far more comparable to comic books then video games.

Or I can express my opinions on an open discussion forum .[/quote]

And that will change the world.

Check a few internet forums, that will give you some proof.

Exactly and power determines what gets made.

Hollywood: lots of power, otakus, no power.

Says you, a lot of people and critics disagree, its not a fact. 77% of critics disagree in fact.

Of course its the point, a movie is only as good as its production crew, so Spielberg being involved makes the likelihood of a good outcome higher then if some hack like Paul Anderson was making it.

Spielberg involvement doesn't make it a sure thing, are no sure things, but makes the odRAB more favorable.

You don't have to take anything. But where did I said it was better? I only said I like it more than THERE WILL BE BLOOD. Tell me why that's wrong.

Which one?

Hollywood movies don't have paperthin plots? Because a crap load of them do. And not all videogames have paper thin plots.

Maybe that's because manga are comic books .

Which I'm not trying to do.

I've looked at internet forums with varying degrees of comments. Inconclusive.

77% isn't that great of an RT rating. Besides that, people like you only seem to support the views of critics when its convenient.

More favorable of what?

Fixing the mistake would either be:

1) Giving up the DVD rights for Innocence in the US

2) Porting the superior R2 version in the US and co-releasing it with Manga Ent. or something that would repair the atrocity of that execrable 2004 release.

We'll just have to agree to disagree then. But as I said, the movie will be aimed at the general audience, and they probably won't care on the character's original looks. Besides, the examples you mention (such as The Matrix) are mostly code-names rather than actual names, they're not related to an ethnicity. And might I add, nearly every name in Matrix has a hidden meaning that relates to the respective character. They were actually meant to be analyzed.

And on the Bruce Lee/Jackie Chan example, it's very common seeing an Asian person with an English name, it's the reverse what isn't.

Whatever

What evidence do you have that this will suck?

Alsop you seem to assume that anime is just naturally superior to anything holloywood can produce, can prove that?

Which games? Also how does a medium based on interaction translate into a passive entertainment like movies?

Bad movies do, good ones don't. Its a mixed bag. You seem to be treating all Hollywood movies like there are all B-list action films made Michale Bay. that's like saying all anime is like Pokemon.

And any video game that doesn't have paper thin plot, has a plot that has really been done by Hollywood a million times, so it doesn't offers anything on its own (story wise RE doesn't offer anything not seen in a zillion other zorabie movies, so its doesn't work as a movie.)

So why can comic books translate into good movies, manga can't?

I was being sarcastic.

Most comic book fans are wiling to give a movie chance unless the concept is stupid or the trailer reveals huge problems.

On anime forums, half the forum will cry blue murder as soon as the Hollywood adaption is announced.

When have I done that?

It may not a great rating, but its a good one. Your opinion on Muich seems be a minority one.

Of this being a good film.

Hmm, now that you mention, it would be possible to release the DVD as a promotional tie-in to the movie. However, if possible an Anime company might try to get the rights to Innocence from Dreamworks. Let's say Bandai Entertainment corrects every mistake.
