TMNT Talkback "Turtles Forever" (Spoilers)

A couple of other things I noticed this time:

-I liked the new scenes. Especially the final bit where Karai pleads to her father. And Ch'rell quotes Super Shredder. It's too bad we can't see the whole credits though; anybody know where I can listen to that ending song? IIRC it was an alternate version that was developed for the '03 show that 4Kids ended up not using. I think 4Kids used to have it up for download on their website years ago.

-When the Technodrome attacks above ground, there is an Asian woman with purple hair, orange headband, a yellow shirt, and a bright red backpack. In other words, Faye Valentine! I wouldn't be surprised if there are other mini-cameos in the crowd. Someone on the Technodrome forums pointed out that one of the guys in the '03 TMNT world is wearing a t-shirt with Bebop's face on it (the character Bebop, I mean). There's also another character that kinda resembles Shaggy Doo.

-After the throwing stars are used on Shredder, you can see 80's Leonardo holding some stars too. So I guess it wasn't just Donatello who dealt that last blow.

I'm going to guess most of the people posting that are my age or so. Kids probably ate it up though I found it to be frankly stupid. I didn't understand what continuity the film was in or anything. It was like superman returns in a way. A wtf movie with cool bits in it.

Not really. We know it takes during the Season 3 era of the original show.

The Technodrome was underground in the movie. The only two seasons it was underground in the original cartoon was Season 1 and 3. Season 3 makes more sense than 1 as the Turtles and Shredder know each other.

We see the Channel 6 building in this movie. Shredder blows up the Channel 6 building in Season 8. Therefore we know its pre-Season 8.

Finally, as I said above, Shredder/Krang were defeated by the end of the original show. The Technodrome in Season 10 was all abandoned, destroyed and overrun by aliens. In this movie, Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady were all in a fully functional Technodrome.

Just because it takes places after the 2k3 Turtles had all their adventures doesn't mean the original cartoon Turtles were past all their adventures too. It was clearly obvious they chose the old toon Turtles from the middle of the shows run.

Indeed. That's what I disliked about the gags involving them. I don't mind stuff like Ralph breaking the fourth wall, but when they come across as idiots, like when they say, "oh, no wonder the city looked different" or "the trash cans didn't work" it was just mean-spirited. The Turtles were goofy, not dumb. It's obvious that Peter Laird still hates the show...even though it was what made him a rich man in the first place.

Maybe this was just a scene I imagined, but I thought Mikey saw Klunk again at April's apartment and told her she could keep him since it's a healthier living space and they've grown attached to each other while The Turtles were MIA. Did that happen? Or should I just have been writing for the show? :P

IMPORTANT NOTE: 4Kids' streaming servers are only viewable by American IP addresses.

If you don't want to read my transcriptions of (the majority of) the omitted dialogue, I fully understand. If my choices were to read the deleted dialogue or wait a couple weeks to see them in their full, animated glory first, I'd make the same choice. I just typed 'em up when it was starting to look like they might be changing their minds about streaming the movie.

Episode 168: Turtles Forever, Part 2
Original Air Date: December 5th, 2009
Relive "the greatest Ninja Turtle story ever told!" The encore presentation of Turtles Forever continues today at 10:30 AM. See what changes are made to the special as it airs in episodic format.

Just watched it and wow what a huge disappointment, now I did enjoy it and I'm happy it happened but too many things bothered me while watching it.

They treated the OT turtles as a mean spirited parody, I can understand they wanted to make them more immature (stupid/annoying etc) to differentiate with the 2k3 show more but they went over board with it, it could have been done in a way that was still true to the OT and still get the same point across. The turtles were never that stupid or goofy, not even mikey, in fact the whole show is actually somewhat serious even in its later seasons and the fact that the show was comedy/action. Even in its later seasons when the show got really goofy Shredder was always shown as an actual threat, and he always was everytime he fought the turtles, and even in its goofier episodes it never reached the way they were portrayed here. While i did enjoy them and loved to see the OT turtles in new animationj, a lot of the times it really bothered me to see them and really it felt like a big middle finger to the show.

The movie was more of a 2k3 turtles DTV than anything but I guess it makes sense since is the current running series. The only thing I didn't like was it felt like yet another 2k3 Shredder story and Hun again, they really have been somewhat overused. I also didn't like Chrell being the "one true shredder", though I did like the end battle.

The Mirage turtles I loved however it also makes me afraid of checking out the Mirage universe which I've wanted to for a long time, but my fear is that they are too gritty mostly for the sake of being gritty and this kind of portrayed what I think they are.

Oh well, I'll be reading the thread and replying to some people most likely, just wanted to put my thoughts first before I read anything.

I was looking forward to the credits as well. That was a remix of the rejected 2K3 theme that was available on The FoxBox Box promo CD from back in mid-late 2002. A fansite, fogu.com, still has it.

Having grown up reading the original comic and watching the 80s TMNT version, I loved this. Yes the 80s turtles in the movie were nothing like the turtles in the 80s series, but who cares. It was an over-exaggeration for comedic value.

I noticed that they showed a number of the edited out scenes during when going to and from commercial. Does anyone know how much was edited out of this?

Edit:

Nevermind, Google is my friend. Apparently 12 minutes were cut.

And yet they ended this in the first issue of the original comic book...

... I'm surprised no one is nitpicking that. But I think it comes from people having more of an emotional connection to the old cartoon than the very original comic.

It makes him look like a jackass. I can just picture him saying, "man, that 1987 series butchered my source material. Now, hold up while I go count my millions." I can understand his dislike for the series, but he should have a little more respect. He'd be a nobody today if it wasn't for that show. If he'd man up and say, "look, I'm not a fan but, hey, TMNT, Kevin, and I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for it. So, I still appreciate it to some degree." I'd respect him more.

Well yes but when it's outright ridicule to something that got you a ton of money why do it? It's like if your favorite band ridiculed you for buying it's old music but you love it and that's what got them there.

I felt it was odd when 2k3 Shredder's daughter said that their Shredder will return. Mostly because he was just completely obliterated and the turtles went back to there dimension. Seeing 80s Shredder in the fight was cool and the conclusion to the fight was hilarious.

I also found it odd when Shredder was crushing the prime Turtles he wasn't feeling any pain.

Overall this special was pretty awesome!

I disagree. The only scene that really struck me as mean-spirted was having the 80's Turtles cry in 2k3 Raph's arms. THAT was ridiculous. The original toon Turtles never cried from a fight and could always hold their own.

As for everything else, it didn't make fun of it harshly. Did you honestly expect Shredder and Krang to match 2k3 Shredder in strength? If anything the 80's villains were done exceptionally well.

Stuff like the Turtles walking out in the open DID happen in the old toon from time to time, as did them wanting to take a break for pizza after a huge fight.

And again, this was still the 2k3 series finale. Of course it would still be the 2k3 Turtles story most of all.

You're Not Alone. As I Metioned On My Previous Post, I Didn't Get To Watch It This Morning Because My CW Affilate Was Airing College Football Instead Of The Movie. I Don't Know If It Will Air Tomorrow Or Not Because My Affilate Didn't List The Movie In The TV Listings.

I see where a problem occurs in that though. They still have the new Technodrome at their disposal at the end of the movie AND all these 80s characters would have knowledge of the 2003 series and the Mirage continuity. Which obviously never comes up in the old cartoon.

However you can't have that Technodrome and non-mutating turtles in a post season 10 scenario UNLESS you come up with a storyline that involves Shredder and Krang getting back the Technodrome and the turtles fixing their mutation along with a new Channel 6 being built.

And if you're going to go to all that trouble to make it fit into OG TMNT canon much less the Mirage canon you may as well say when the universes were repaired everything went back to status quo. Meaning Mirage and 88 TMNT at the very least were not affected at all or TMNT 2003 for that matter. We'll never know however as this is the end of 2K3 TMNT. If there was another season we'd still have mutant Hun and mutant foot ninja and Shredder most likely would return unless everything reset to the point where Back to the Sewers ended. It's certainliy possible given the situation was causing the multiverse to collapse.

I also think you could explain a lot more if you consider the situation that brought the 88 TMNT to 2003's series was an alternative scenario for what happened at the end of the mini-series pilot. Rather than sending the Technodrome to to Dimension X along with all the bad guys, the portal malfuncations and sends the bad guys and the turtles to the 2003 series. The scene was a bit different yes but that's really how it felt to me. And with that you could even explain that this isn't exactly the original cartoon but a slightly different branch of it. With the multiverse explanation it certainly could work. Then you can explain the slightly different behavior of various characters. Same goes to the Mirage universe. Yeah I went there. XD

Or you could look at Turtles Forever in a way they most likely intended it to be. Not particularly canon but a totally awesome way to say goodbye to everything TMNT up to this point.

Don't get me wrong. It COULD be canon in every universe with some gaps filled in and I'm sure some very bored individuals will figure out how that might have worked but does it really matter?

And yeah I'm somewhat jumping the gun with the comment that including human Bebop and Rocksteady was a major error. It could have been a mistake due to the staff not being aware of who those humans were OR it could have been a nod to the human versions of those characters for the heck of it.

This. Was. Amazing. I just got around to watching it and I loved it. One of the best things I've seen all year. I never really watched the 2k3 series aside from episode here and there, but I grew up with the 80's series and the films, so I knew the characters well enough. The TV movie had everything that makes the Turtles so great, comedy, action, goofy sci-fi, serious bad guys, awesome mutants, ninja action, and pizza.

I have never read the original Turtles comics, however this movie made want to read them. They seem like a terrific parody of the 80's comic grittiness. I hope that, Nick deal aside, this gets a DVD release because I would love to own it.

This year has been pretty hard on me lately, I"m turning 18 in a couple months and graduating next month. This movie brings nostalgia for one of my fondest childhood memories, and as it brings an end of an era for the Turtles I'm reminded of my first few years as a kid. Here's hoping the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! movie (Which has a similar idea) brings the same kind of feeling.
