TMNT Talkback "Turtles Forever" (Spoilers)

a few more thoughts then my thoughts on continuity

I liked Raphael breaking the fourth wall but didn't like when Hun pointed it out, that was a bit unnecessary, we the fans already understood it and any new fan wouldn't get it with that comment either. While its obvious that Raph is breaking the fourth wall in the OT, as a canon explanation on what he is doing I like to think he is making those comments to one(or more) of his brothers we just don't see it because of the camera.

Anyways, I still think the 87 (:p) turtles were mistreated, I didn't mind the jokes on them, I only minded when they acted overly stupid/moronic/goofy which was out of character and they didn't seem to get respect. Also when they made them worthless as fighters, Oh well I'll try to enjoy it more next time. I did like how it made it so the 87 turtles seemed to have more advance technology in some ways. I also liked how 2k3 Donatello couldnt make sense of their science, well at least until 87 Donnie mentions you basically just have to wish its going to do that and it will basically discrediting him....

The 87 Splinter scene with the 2k3 turtles was really touching splinter. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is when the Mirage turtles are making fun of the 2k3 ones and Raph wants to take the heat off him and mentions the insignias on the 87 bets the Mirage turtles say nothing, later at the end Mirage Mikey mentions how he actually liked the insignias :D

Oh yeah and I LOVE the song which I call "TMNT Theme" that is played at the end with the Mirage turtles (and also played in the first Turtles Forever trailer), its awesome, it truly felt like a "main theme" for the TMNT just like Batman has one.

Continuity:

Personally I'm a bigger fan of this taking place in Season 3 since things do indeed fit better there. You can explain it through many ways like maybe the utrom tech didn't work in their universe, though thats a weak explanation. Greg's theory of the technology being used for the giggle ray is a good one. Maybe they try to learn how to use it and instead make all the improvements fall apart which similar things did happen in the OT at the end of the episodes to go back to status quo. Though I guess you do have to use "fan fiction" to explain it so I can understand if someone wants to place it post season 10 since it still requires some fanon to explain certain things.

The idea of the 88 turtles NOT being the OT is not a bad one and would explain the inconsistencies however I don't like this option since I want them to be the OT, thats what made the team up cool, if it was another similar universe team up its just not the same, not to mention they are intended to be the OT.

The everything returns to status quo easily explains everything but personally I always hate time travel stories were everything returns to status quo with no one (or just one) remembering, it angers me its no different than "it was all a dream" episodes, its annoying. Can this movie really not fit in the TMNT Mirage #1 canon? Could it be stuff that happened between the panels of issue one?

As far as 2k3 I remember reading after some people saw it at comic con that it probaby took place around season 4 or so, but its definitely after BTTS now?

You're wrong with me at least, I didn't really see the OT as a kid much besides an episode or two and watching the Burger King VHS tapes. So besides the VHS episodes from BK which I did watch tons of times I don't really remember any other episode as a kid.

I basically started watching the OT for the "first" time when it started getting released on DVD, and I was surprised how watchable the show is since to me it didn't have much nostalgia value (the cartoon). So my memories of the OT are fresh and not biased like anyone who actually watched the show as a kid.

The trash cans joke looks bad out of context...but remember that both the '88 turtles and 2K3 turtles had just defeated Shredder Prime by throwing trash at him.

For the record, I don't believe Peter Laird had much involvement in the movie. He saw the (almost) finished project, and he was happy with it, but I don't believe he had much say with its direction.

And yeah, there were playful jabs in there, but they didn't include the '88 characters in the special for solely mocking purposes. They just stretched their personalities a bit in order to provide a more dramatic contrast between the two (or three) universes. And as mentioned by other posters, the '88 characters were often useful in several situations in their own strange ways.

Before anyone asks, yes, it was edited for time. There was more to Karai's first meeting with Krang and '88 Shredder. As well as Krang and '88 Shredder talking about the adjustments being made to the Technodrome... with Krang catching on that Ch'rell was taking over the place, while '88 Shredder seemed to be in denial about it.

There was also a scene that was cut with 2003 Splinter yelling at his sons to show more respect to the '88 Turtles.

But, still... this was glorious. It was fun. I loved it. Very, very meta.

And who referred to him as such? Hun, Karai, and Ch'rell himself. Consider the sources here. Hun served the Shredder for most of his life, and revered him. Karai was his adopted daughter. And Ch'rell was an arrogant, egomaniac. So, hell yeah, from them, he's "the one true Shredder"

It's not like Master Splinter was calling him that.

And as for the crying, I read a pretty good explanation on the Technodrome forums that I agree with.

I like the term Dave Willis came up with. TOIHAK/"The One I Had As a Kid"

It reminds me of when Ewan McGreggor trashed the "Star Wars" prequels as bad movies. Some people got butt hurt and demanded he return the money he made from them if he hated them so much. Of course, they went silent when I asked if they ever complained about a job they had, and suggested they return any money they made from that.

People are human and allowed opinions.

Now if only Bones would make a crossover between the '03 Fullmetal Alchemist and the '09 FMA, my life would feel complete. It was still nice to see Bebop and Rocksteady make their comeback after all these years.

LOL, no. Firefox is a web browser that does the same things Internet Explorer does, (which you might have been able to infer from the nature of my statement, like if I compared Coke and Pepsi and you didn't know what Pepsi was) but features greater capabilities for customization.

You're thinking of Fox McCloud, from Star Fox.

Wow, people need to remove their nostalgia goggles for a sec because these are the '88 Turtles I remember vividly.

Imagine if you took Adam West's Batman and dropped him into The Dark Knight. This is the equivalent of Turtles Forever. Yes, the '88 gang held their own for a while and fun in the process however they faced a threat unlike any in their universe.

The movie did not pan the old show, it merely pointed out glaring differences specifically the level of menace and malice in the 2K3 realm. Facts are facts: the Utrom Shredder would've slayed the '88 Turtles in a fight. Heck, they were captured by the Purple Dragons. Except for Raph in S1, I don't recall the Dragons ever besting the 2K3 bunch in a fight.

I can't see the pic.

So when do ya think we'll get to see the film uncut?

And I can't believe when Utrom Shredder showed the '88 and '03 Turtles the many versions of themselves in the multi-verses that we got a small glimpse at the Japanese TMNT.

Ok. NOW, I can see the pic. Thanks.
Plus wouldn't it had been funnier when after Utrom Shredder found out about the multi-verses that he would had told everyone that he had to deal with horrific TMNT: 'Coming Out of Their Shells' Tour?

I love how everyone overlooks the fact that the Mirage Turtles made fun of the 2k3 Turtles, calling them "wanna-be's," and "what's with the multi-colored bandanas."

Likewise the Mirage Turtles pretty much took down the 2k3 Turtles almost effortlessly.

Each more serious version of the Turtles made fun of the ones below it. Laird gave them the OK to use all the original cartoon characters in the first place

It is true that in the original show, the Turtles were a heck of a lot smarter and more competent than seen in this movie. But it was all in good fun, and I didn't mind it. The TMNT did fight by throwing pizza in Shredder's face, or throwing trash cans at enemies in the old show.

I'll admit it, I enjoyed seeing Krang again, and watching he and '80's Shredder bicker like an old married couple.

Karai's remark about the 80's Technodrome technology being "ridiculous" and "cartoonish" was priceless.
