TMNT Talkback "Turtles Forever" (Spoilers)

I'm really getting sick of the potshots at the old show. That schtick got old fast.

Yes movie, we get it.
The turtles of the old show are silly, we get it.
The villains from the old show are comedic & incompotent, we get it.
The tone of the old show is lighthearted, we get it.

It's like they took time in the writing session to think of new ways to make fun of the old show. There's lampshading and there's being disreptectful.

One thing that just occurred: Klunk, like Serling, is also nowhere to be seen in the movie. And given the destruction of the lair, his chances of survival aren't terribly high. Poor forgotten kitty cat. :(

Yeah, I thought about that too. The '87 characters took the flying Technodrome back to their own universe, including everything and everyone inside it. That means the upgraded Foot robots and the mutated Purple Dragon guys are all in the '87 universe now. Won't that change the dynamic of their universe, at least a little?

Similarly, the '03 Turtles took the dimensional portal stick back home with them. So now they can use that to visit any dimensions they want? Maybe go back to the dimensions they visited in Season 3? And Hun is probably still a mutant too, so he's more dangerous than he was before.

Even though everyone went home at the end, it seems like both universes would be permanently changed by the events of this story. Unfortunately, we can't see these changes explored, because both series are over.

This was simply...amazing. I have no words to describe how much I enjoyed this, it was the best possible way they could've ended the show, the whole pre-Viacom franchise, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

As for the place in the 87' (or 88') timeline, I actually saw a theory posted on the Technodrome forums shortly after the Comic-Con showing that it could have even taken place at some point towards the end of season 7. Seeing how the 2K3 turtles acted towards their duty as heroes may have been what triggered their personality changes in the Red Sky episodes, but obviously it didn't happen overnight (meaning the season 7 finale would still have to take place after this). The Technodrome's changes is the only thing messing up this theory, but I'm sure the fans will have a field day picking at that plot point to pass the time until the next Turtles project.

Stupid banana raincoat-wearin'...

*shutters at the fan art that could arise from this*

I may be repeating someone else at this point. If I am, I apologize. But:

To be honest, were there any really decent Saturday morning cartoon villains in the 1980s? Shredder, Megatron, Cobra Commander, Skeletor... all a bunch of sniveling peons.

The bottom line is, if you take off the nostalgia-colored glasses, a lot of the cartoons from our childhood (for those of us who grew up in the 80s) were just vessels to sell toys. The writing was silly and gimmicky, the characters all contrived without any real depth, and the villains a bunch of whining *******. When they weren't selling toys, they were anti-drug PSAs.

If "Turtles Forever" kept referencing that, it's because it's true.

Make a thread asking about "TMNT (2007)" on any forum and you'll get a bunch of replies about how its bad. Even in the Technodrome forums people are not very fond of the movie. I personally like it but the general consensus is not a good one on the internet and outside the internet "it sucks because its cg/doesn't have shredder" even if the people saying that haven't watched it.

No one seems to care what happened to April in the 80's verse.

It's almost like you wanted her to disappear at the hands of a mutant banana.

Wonder how Viacom will handle the series. Also, I have started to think that since Viacom has worked with 4kids in this deal, or at least a licnese they owned, would that make 4kids in the crosshairs of Viacom to buy out?

You act as if I asked, why the turtles were green.

Considering the movie didn't say the event took place during any particular time, I think it was a fair question. It seems the move could of been set at the end of the 2k series, which means the 80's turtles were fulled from their current time in the universe and still had continued adventures we didn't see, for all we know, shredder and the technodrome could of come back, the 80's turtles could of gone back to their old ways.... it's easy to suggest the 80's turtles are post the events of the red sky season.

Since the device that put the 80's turtles in the 2k universe was an interdementional transporter, and not a time machine, I was thinking that the machine pulled the turtles from their current place in time and not a random period of existence.

Considering you have no SOLID facts on your side I think you should retract your overreaction to my question. "Good God." Indeed.

Someone brought it up. The person who brought it up said (or said something similar to) "What about the Banana that took April. He probably made her, his wife or something."

Well I don't personally consider the CGI movie part of the live action continuity, I was just playing Devil's advocate by showing there's as much evidence for and against it as TNM.

Anyway it's a moot point, Venus is unlikely to be incorporated in any future turtles project simply because she isn't fondly remembered by the majority of fans. Those that do remember her think of her as the Scrappy Doo of the franchise.

Say what you want about Bebop, Rocksteady or the Punk Frogs, but they have a lot of nostalgia appeal to those who grew up on the original toon. Frankly we've got a better chance of seeing Muckman return then Venus.

I was coming in and out really upset about that . It's weird but when I did come in on each part 2K3 were ridiculing 80's Turtles it was just disrespectful. The 80's turtles were really competent they just were limited because they couldn't use their weapons. It also didn't help that Ralphael was conscending to each 80's turtle is was painful. I still have to watch most of it but that was my only gripe.
