TMNT Talkback "Turtles Forever" (Spoilers)

There is plenty to be thankful for with this movie. I’m glad they chose to acknowledge the existence of other continuities. The actual message, however, seems to be that while many have their own cool and their own lame points, at least one is pretty much worthless. Guess which one?

I’m no longer a fan of the old series by any means; back when it was the only thing, sure, I was down with it. But yeah, the 2k3 series pretty much became the definitive one for me. Still, I can’t abide by the utter disrespect for the ‘88 series this movie has shown.

* Turtles walking in broad daylight in complete oblivious bliss? They didn’t think the people screaming away from them was any big deal?

* 88 Don going out of his way to mention his device is to be in “stick” form? …Why? For that matter, when was he ever one to brush aside facts so casually? His inventions were often out there, to be sure, but at least he had some sort of techno-babble to back it up. Here, it’s all just “It’ll work ‘cause it’ll work ‘cause it’s a stick.” Again, why?

* And besides the occasional line of individual dialogue (like 2-3 for Leo and Mike, a smidge more for Raph and Don), the turtles were indistinguishable. I mean, in the midst of a crisis, raising their hands like grade schoolers to suggest food? Laughing like crazy fools at the slightest quip? Throwing trash cans at a hulking monster Shredder? Crying like babies in 2k3 Raph’s arms? …WHY??

* One last, non era-related annoyance of mine: the first Technodrome battle had lasers ablazin’, and even with the turtles standing around talking for almost 10 seconds, every single shot blew right past them. Mikey had three lasers shoot past him and he just kept right on talking. Incompetent aiming is nothing new in any show, and I can certainly understand the robots might not be so good with moving targets, but completely stationary ones? That's just impossible to believe, even for any of these TMNT shows.

Great minds think alike. :D

What I DID like was the overall cohesiveness of the story and the fact that there was involvement throughout the multiverses. Both Splinters showed that the master really does know all in any universe. Slash Hun was amazingly fitting. The ultimate Shredder and the disintegration of everything was pretty epic. That "looking through the 4th wall" bit of 88 Raph's and the others being confused was a little tiresome, but the eventual payoff was excellent. And as few and far between as they were, the moments where both turtle groups found common ground were quite touching, additionally so with the Mirage clan and especially with the final scene; never saw the parallels of those catch-phrases until now.

3 exploding ninja stars from me. Enough to topple Shred-head for this era's final go 'round? Just about.

Almost EVERYTHING I wanted to say has been said.

I loved the movie but I wish they didn't make the 80's turtles into baby's. They ran and cried to 2k3 Ralph. Really ? The 80's turtles would never run and cry like that when faced with a challenge. They also weren't THAT silly. I mean Mikey maybe but Leo and Donatello too ? I also wish they would of given 80's Ralph more things to say, he was also my favorite so that's just a personal bias. I also wanted a refrence to the 80''s Casey Jones, like, "that's your Casey? Ours is a raving lunatic!" I don't hate 2k3 Casey, I just think the 80's one was a lot more entertaining.

I didn't see anyone note this, so I'll bring it up. What happened to the "red sky turtles" with the ugly mutations ? Did this movie retcon them from never happening or as being apart of another universe themselves ?

I get that those aren't the turtles people want to see. But that is where the 80's series left off. I was thinking we'd see them among the multiverses. But nope. I hope the DVD Commentary addresses this because by all rights, those turtles would have to of been taken seriously because they were the start of the removal of silliness.

I think the only reason why people don't understand what I'm saying is because I saw all the episodes of the original cartoon and know how it ended, and I assume most of you never watched those last episodes. The writers of the old toon clearly wanted us to know the Turtles had defeated Shredder. They knew the show was ending at the time and they capped it off with one final episode of the Technodrome and the Turtles using Krang's body to finish off Lord Dregg, who was the final villain at the time.

They showed a new Channel 6 station in the final seasons, it was a small building. They would never rebuild the old one.

Honestly, this is going nowhere. The original toon had an ending. There is absolutely no reason why things would magically return to status quo (or, pre-Season 8) just for this movie.

The 4kids writers wanted to use the most recognizable form of the '88 Turtles, so they chose the version of them in the prime of the shows run.

Karai is always like that Like the fan favorite "Same as it never was"

She follows her "father" to the point where he has inslaved all of Earth for nearly twenty years and is about to enslave the rest of the world but still desides to show mercy on Leo saying she does not want to kill him. By this point she is WAY past the point of no return yet still thinks she can play both sides.

The thing about Karai is she lets her loyalty to her father cloud her mind. She likes Leonardo and the Turtles too saves their lives and helps them escape, but she always chooses her father over them until the last minute.

Chris Sanders MSX it seems as those this adventure takes place for the 80's turtles some time in the first few seasons, if it can fit anywhere. If it took place durring the Red Sky seasons the technodrome would be damaged beyond repair in diemention X. Really the eighties turtles in this story could have been taken from anywhere in the show.

Personally i was hoping for Baxter to be in this movie. I think it would have been funny seeing two Baxter Stockman's arguing over which one has the worst life.

I will say this for TMNT III. It was a good story. It was just bogged down by the frequent irritants like the hand-me-down one-liners, the significantly less attractive animatronics, the unnecessary jokes (wet willies), Cory Feldman's pathetically uncharacteristic Donatello, new VAs, and the fact that the story was just good and not outstanding. So, I've come to tolerate it over the years, but it's still my least favorite of the movies.
Made your quote a bit easier for people to follow.

Do you remember the reasoning for this? Because it was too tame. Just because they weren't showing grizzly deaths on screen, there was no blood & guts, and the Turtles weren't drinking beer, it was called infantile. A dude getting tied to a tree and (off-screen) scewered and Raph coming so close to gouging out Leo's eye render this argument elitist nonsense. The 13 monsters? I agree that was rather lame, but not enough to make this a bad movie.

All professional movie critics I've seen review it hate all TMNT movies just because they remind of how undignified the '80s toon became, so I ignore biased, elitist opinions like that.

Absolutely brilliant I mean seriously this was what I've wanted my entire life (no hyperbole here) a brilliant, clever and fitting end to a show that manages to include, in some format (ALL except you Next Mutation lulz) the entirety of all of the fandom. I grew up with my sister watching TMNT and have loved it ever since, I was fine with the good natured ribbing the 80's boys got; it wasn't as bad as I thought given some of the comments online.

The Turtles Prime were just so awesome (got to love the narration bit) and man, the end just got me. Seriously I'm still trying to fight off tears; it was such a beautiful, perfect, fulfilling and complete cinematic end. It was like a flawless end to a legend that would be told to children for the rest of time. I look forward to the TMNT's future with Nick and such, but even if things don't turn out well, this more than makes up for anything down the pipeline. This is easily the way that Turtles could end for good and I wouldn't mind one bit. OH....oh....there I go again...musn't cry at the awesome....musn't *insert crying with endless bliss smilie*

Man, that was awesome in EVERY way. Being a huge fan of '88 TMNT and the live action movies as a kid and being a fan of 2K3 Turtles now, this was everything I could've wanted.

As CyberCubed said, Bebop & Rocksteady saving the universe was just brilliant. Who saw that coming? I sure didn't. :D

Raph also falling in love with the Mirage universe was perfect, as him trying to fit in with the original turtles was hilarious. So was the original Shredder being beaten so fast.... And...

Yeah, I could probably gush about this for hours. :anime:

Are you joking? Since when was this movie set after the original cartoon ended?

This movie was probably set during the Season 3 era of the original toon. By the end of the original show, the Technodrome was destroyed, Shredder and Krang were lost in Dimension X, and Bebop and Rocksteady weren't with them anymore.

I seriously cannot believe you would ask a question like that. Any person would come to the rather obvious conclusion this wasn't set after Season 10 of the old toon. Good god.

If you're talking about real movie critics, of course all the Turtle movies got bad reviews. Go check TMNT 4 over at rottentomatoes...it got mostly bad reviews yet the fans liked it.

The TMNT movies are made for the fans, not some 50 year old movie critic.

People really need to stop using this word... to quote Jon Stewart: "Doesn't elite mean good? Or are we not looking for that anymore?"

I like the first one, hate the second and third ones, and like the fourth.

looking fwd to watching the 3 eps, likely uncut for time.

1. I don't recall us seeing what happened after Ch'rell was gassed and when he greets Hun in his new armor

2. Mutant Banana grabs April after the Turtles go underground

Not sure if I'm missing any other gaps. Sadly, I missed the first 10 minutes. I tuned in when the 8 turtles found the Technodrome.

Is there a bigger version of that poster? Be nice to have that in my collection. Sadly i have to record it (which i was doing anyways) and gonna have to watch it another time, work had me come in early. I was really pissed off cause i was waiting to see it, but at least i'll have it. I also hope that it will come out on dvd.

But enough of my excited gibberish from a old fan, but when i look on the tv guide from zap2it's website, it also states an episode next saturday that says "

No Episode Title The 1988 Turtles get a shock when they arrive in 2003.
Sat 11/28 10:30-11:00am 4 WTTV
Sat 11/28 10:30-11:00am 704 WTTVDT No Episode TitleThe 1988 Turtles get a shock when they arrive in 2003.
Sat 12/5 10:30-11:00am 4 WTTV Sat 12/5 10:30-11:00am 704 WTTVDT

Now can this be just a error on their part or will we be seeing more to this? I just want to make sure before i just assume they are wrong.
