TMNT Talkback "Turtles Forever" (Spoilers)

Wow! That was truly amazing! As a TMNT fan since the beginning, I was practically grinning the whole time, especially towards the end.

First off, I have to give major credit to the people who animated the 80's version. It was spot on and really well done. 80's Leo's voice was a bit off though, but I grew to it later on. It was a shame they couldn't bring back the original VA's, but it's no big loss.

As for the jokes, they didn't bother me at all, and some of them had me laughing. I wish the 80's Splinter and April made more appearances, but it was great to see them once again.

Seeing still images of all the TMNT universes and the original Mirage turtles was a real treat and something I never saw coming. I was surprised they showed the anime turtles since it was never dubbed and shown here in the US.

The writers really did their homework for this special, and it was great to see Mirage heavily involved with this. Bebop and Rocksteady "defeating" the 2k3 Shredder was pure gold!

Peter Laird, Kevin Eastman, and 4kids, thank you so much for making this! My expectations were completely blown away. Thank you for 25 awesome years of the turtles, and here's to more year now that Viacom has the franchise. I hope the next series they work on will be good.

I may be giving the writers too much credit here, but I didn't think that was a mistake; I thought it was an intentional wink to the audience, as if to say, "Hey, remember how Rocksteady and Bebop were originally human?". I noticed April's friend Irma walking past the camera as well during that scene, though none of the Turtles acknowledged her.

4Kids plans to stream the movie from their website, probably in December sometime. It'll be 12 minutes longer than the TV broadcast.

The part I'm looking forward to the most is Shredder saying, "So be it!" a la Super Shredder. It got cut for time apparently.

Ouch on Next Mutation being omitted when nearly every bit of the fandom, even the obscure ones like the animes, were included. :p For me, as a kid I liked some of it, but after a bit it just felt off. Also Venus, while an potentially interesting concept, just didn't hold my interest. It's been a dog's age since I've seen the show, so I can't immediately remember what irked me about its later bits. Though I did laugh at all the hilarious sounds Bonesaw (?) made in an episode where he had captured Mikey. Stupid it may be, but hey I laughed.

Oh, is there any place where I can find out Eastman and Laird's thoughts on Next Mutation? Or can anyone fill me in? I've heard they really do not like it in the least.

But they started dropping hints about Shredder's true nature as far back as Darkness on the Edge of Town, the sixth episode of the first season. It in that episode we the first of many Foot schemes aimed at locating utrom artifacts. We learn that Shredder's ultimate weapon the Sword of Tengu is itself of utrom origin. Plus it's the first time we see Saki's conspicuously bandaged abdomen.

I could go on, there's so much stuff in season one that wouldn't make any sense if there was no connection between Saki and the utroms.

I fail to see how making Oroku Saki a two thousand year old demonically possesed zombie is any less radical then the utrom idea.

Oh man! That would have made this even more epic.:D:D

I'm with the majority, awesome movie, insane shout to the fandom, maybe a bit too many jokes at the 80's series expense(then again the old show had plenty of weird/chessy/crazy moments), 4th wall breaking, amused silence, and a perfect way to end a series.

Just realized they used both of the teams from the infamous Superman Legend anime for the multi-verse collage. Extra Awesome!!

Yeah, the Shredder was made out to be an enemy of the Utroms very early, what with them getting involved during "The Shredder Strikes." So I totally believe that him being an Utrom was planned from the start.

I think the demon Shredder was just the result of the fact that it was really hard for the 2K3 series to get away from Shredder being the main villain, and obviously they couldn't just have Ch'rell mk. II.

My CW Affilate Didn't Air The Movie At All This Weekend. Oh, Well At Least There's An Encore (Despite It Being Split In To 3 Parts In 3 Weeks) Starting On Saturday. :D

I think that's giving the original cartoon way too much credit. There was the original comics, and more importantly the original live action movie. It was the first live movie that made me a fan of the TMNT, not the original cartoon.

Yeah, in the original cartoon April made the turtles basically appear to be super heroes to the public. The original turtles could walk the streets of New York, and people would be like "Hey everybody, it's the famous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

I remember when I watched the movie the first time, I figured the human Rocksteady and Bebop was an error. But after stopping to think about it, I'm 50/50. It might've been an error, or it might've been done intentionally. Only the creators know for certain.

But I'll tell you what I know 100% was an error, cause they made the same error back in season three of the 2003 cartoon. Go back to season two and listen to what the Utrom Shredder's voice sounded like when not using his exosuit, his voice sounded different. They made the same error in this movie that they made back in season three. They made the Utrom Shredder talk exactly the same without his exoskeleton as he does when he's inside it. You have to remember that the Utroms voices sound different when they're not using their exoskeletons.

A couple of things that I realized, and I don't think anyone mentioned either of these:

1. Where's Serling? Did he eventually get back to his own time? That's what I would assume happened, since he was nowhere to be seen.

2. Shredder mentioned how he just now discovered that there are parallel universes. This made me realize something. I think that this answers the question over who The Ultimate Ninja was looking for back in season 2. He wasn't looking for the Utrom Shredder, but he was looking for the Demon Shredder. It was infact the Demon Shredder who fought in the Battle Nexus Tournament, not the Utrom Shredder.

The first movie had great action, the second toned it down a bit but was still pretty good for comedic fighting but the third really took the cake with slapstick and while that in of itself didn't make the movie bad it certainly didn't make it better.

The suits were nowhere near as great as the Henson ones but I can forgive them for that since they still worked fine.

The storyline was just kinda... meh. I actually liked how they incorporated Japanese culture but the characters weren't very memorable nor likable.

The comedy wasn't really up to par with the previous two movies either though it had it's moments and some of the best known one-liners from the TMNT movies "help I'm a turtle and I can't get up" and "I think I swallowed a frog" for instance. And the culture shock for the samurai hanging out with Casey was at least somewhat amusing.

The sub-plot that some of the turtles didn't want to go back home was one of the more interesting parts of the movie. Not shockingly this was yet again something else Leonardo and Raphael didn't see eye to eye on.

The relationship between Raphael and the little boy Yoshi did a fair job of showing Raph's softer side.

The final battle made Shredder's pathetic losses in the first two movies look impressive by comparison.

All and all it's not a BAD movie in my opinion but it's easily the worst of the 4 (I'd rank it TMNT I > TMNT 2007 > TMNT II > TMNT III personally).

It's one of the most light hearted incarnations of TMNT to be sure and that's already off-putting to some fans but it's not even really good at being light hearted entertainment but it at least it isn't boring like some of it's immitators *coughWarriorsofVirtuecough*

I am glad I TiVo'd this, because even if I didn't woke up late (which I did), I would have missed this simply because the other Savannah CW affiliate isn't on DirecTV. And, yes, I did type "other Savannah CW affiliate" since the Savannah market has two of them. Our official CW affiliate was our UPN station and still refuses to air both the daytime block (all Tyra Banks) and the kids block. The other station was a part of The WB 100+ stations that served to provide The WB (and now The CW) to those markets that don't carry it; it still exists but as a digital subchannel and can only be accessed through digital cable or through an OTA antenna.

As for Turtles Forever, I enjoyed it. A lot. It was a perfect way to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Turtles and serve as an "end of an era" for the pre-Viacom properties. I enjoyed the 80's Turtles and they didn't bother me; I loved the fourth-wall break with SlashHun. It makes me want to watch more of the 03 Turtles due to elements present in the movie; if I actually consistently knew what was going on during 03's run, I would have known that Shredder was an alien. The trip to the original black-and-white universe was great and transitioning from that to Eastman and Laird (and yes, it was both of their voices) creating the first issue nearly made me shed a tear.

Loved it. Turtle Power!:anime:

It was nice to see the 1988 Turtles back in action along side the 2003 Turtles, through like many of us here believe the 1988 Turtles were not at the best. I love how Utrom Shredder and the 1988 Shredder & Krang interacted, it was some of the better material in this special. The Mirage Turtles were very bad ass, and reminded me how dark Frank Miller's Batman was. My favorite moment was Rocksteady and Bebop manage to save the Turtle Multiverses by accident. My only question...

What is to become Technodrome? Does Krang & Shredder undo all of the changes that Utrom Shredder made to it?

You would think that all of the new technology that they aquired, Krang & Shredder would be able to finally defeat 1988 Turtles.

umm no general consensus for TMNT 2k7 is that its bad.

Theres two OVAs and each one is very different from the other one. Its based on the OT except the characters are anime-ish and its pretty cool. To further easternize in both OVAs they get some kind of power up that is anime-style.

In the first one they become "Super turtles" which just makes them even more human-looking and later they merge into one turtle. The second one they wear armors based on animals, this is done imitating Saint Seiya which was a popular anime/manga at the time around the world (except the US). They are pretty fun and makes you want to see more of those universes its definitely an interesting take. I don't remember if there is anything that connects the two OVAs or not so they could be two separate universes as shown in Turtles Forever, but there may be a small reference I'm forgetting that makes them in continuity with each other.
