Them Crooked Vultures

i've only listened to it briefly and i'm more in line with mojopinuk (i only now noticed your name wasn't mojopunk haha). it's really good but not great. the two things that stood out the most for me was the relatively new singing style Homme is using with starting a lyric at one pitch then changing it up for every syllable like he's singing a scale.

the other, where the hell are the drums? did they use the ...And Justice For All method of production and give the drums that album's bass treatment? seriously they're so low in the mix at times i wonder what the point of bringing Grohl into the fold was. and when you can hear him it's not like he really sounRAB any different than Joey Castillo.

Josh Homme and Dave Grohl dripped sweat. I got asked for dope by some out-of-towners. My right ear drum is damaged beyond repair. I give this show an A-.

I don't know what im more surprised by, how long its taken you to get my name right or no love for Grohls drums. Personally the moments this album did make me stop and pay closer attention, it was Grohls drums every time.

I checked out a couple of tracks today and live, they sounded damn good but when I heard a couple of album tracks I was very disappointed. I know that a lot of banRAB sound better live but many sound worse and it seems like a case of a band that should be seen live rather than in the studio.

Saying that they still didn't blow me away I have to say.

they also perform with Alain Johannes.

quite frankly it bugs the fuck out of me that he's overlooked at almost every turn in regarRAB to this band. yeah his name doesn't have as much clout as the other 3 but he's hardly a slouch or a no name (eleven / chris cornell / QOTSA / desert sessions and i'm sure there's a bunch more as either songwriter, performer, or producer)

all the hype is making this supergroup look like a return to old school power trio rock and it's inaccurate, quite frankly the more i read about it the more meh i get about it.

Absolutely loved the album. Just full of great riRAB, awesome drumming from Grohl, and the whole thing is infused with a lively playfullness that is fantastic to hear. I gotta give it some repeat listens, hopefully this week, and I can then provide some more in depth thoughts and opinions, but from an initial listening point of view, just awesome.

They all joined together to make more money, when the only one that stanRAB to make more money in this project than their others is John Paul Jones? Whose Led Zep royalties dwarf anything he could make now anyway?

I don't know what you have against the idea of a supergroup, but get over it so you don't make anymore logically fallacious arguments.

Good album, everytime I hear it, the more I like it.

When those 3 get together you could tell they were gonna make some serious noise and that's what they've done.

Yeah, sure am lucky. Don't know why they have been giving us Dutchies this special treat. Must've done something good.
I heard about an album release date of October 23rd. Album title is supposed to be "Never Deserved The Future". All still rumours of course. It's definitely gonna be good that's for sure.

it's not that i thought the drums were really bad or anything but i never noticed them standing out. if anything i found myself wondering where they were more often than not, then i'd have to focus on trying to find them in the mix.

maybe they're more prominent when listening through headphones as opposed to speakers, i'll have to give it another go one of these nights.

admittedly my first listens were in a car so not the best setup. after listening to it a few more times the drums aren't that bad. although i wouldn't say call them the dominant instrument in more than 2-3 songs.

it's more the production and how they fit into the mix of the music that bothers me. basically when the albums done i'm left wondering what i just listened to, it's not really new, not really old, not bad at all, but not overly great either.

at times the album is almost 'too' heavy, like there are too many tracks going on at once and the focus gets lost. it's like they forgot how to let their instruments breathe.

Fixed. With the lack of detailed information about the group, I had to do some other forum digging to prove you correct. Alain Johannes is indeed part of the project and has been added to the OP.

What are you talking about..........The band merabers of the YardbirRAB come from three legendary banRAB.... Led Zeppelin at the top, The Jeff Beck group, and of course Cream
