The Rock n Roll Years 1956-1989 Who Remembers it?

Just found out that the 1973 episode was shown on BBC THREE sometime last year. Gary Glitter featured in it for about a minute (look what has happened to him since) So I have to decided to start a campaign to get The Rock n Roll Years repeated and a new series covering the 1990's commissioned. If you ring 08700100222 this puts you through to the BBC programme department, an automated voice will direct you, choose the option that you want to talk about a BBC programme and request a repeat of the entire series of The Rock n Roll Years. What's Russell Brand got to do with anything regarding type of genre on the BBC? The only thing I know that he's lent his hand to was the recent Kenny Everett prog on ITV or was this just a little unncessary dig at him?
 
I thought the licence issue for DVD releases had been resolved.

There's a classic Dr Who that features a clip of The Beatles doing Ticket To Ride and it looked like this could be a problem, but my understanding is a new agreement covering all music now means this will not be held up.

There was some debate about this when the Dr Who Restoration Team forum existed but as that has gone (the Forum not the Restoration Team) I cannot find any references.

I used to have the whole of the Rock'n'Roll Years on V2000 (like a previous poster) but when the machine was dying I managed to transfer some stuff but this got left behind.
 
I think that they were using Russell Brand as an example which was a very rubbish example, I would have used Stuart Marconi ;)

The rock and roll years was great, I really loved this programme.
 
Just thinking whether they would want to update it for the 90s considering they decide to do their I Love genre which did the year by year account which included the 90s although wasn't that impressed them doing a recollection of 1999 which was first transmitted in 2001!
 
Maybe they could use it as a filler programme until they find a full time replacement for Neighbours!. Now theres a thought.

I hope someone who works for the BBC reaRAB this and acts!!
 
Russnet must be russel brand himself!. I Think the generalisation was intended. If you look at that show on sky one pop years, there are a few dodgy z listers that appeared on it. Anyway, The Rock n Roll Years differed so much because sometimes the star of the show could be a member of the public.

Perfect example, The 1974 episode featured some clips of the 1974 general election, the end of three day week etc. Members of the public were asked did they know what were the main issues that the election of a new government would have to concentrate on. A few people said they didnt know, or that they werent sure, but this one man commented "well it's housing and rising costs of the food.....well its got to be aint it".

There was a strong reference in that years episode of food shortages, i.e bread shortages and sugar shortages. So this man was right although it is the way he says this which is funny.
 
I had nearly all of these on tape, I think they are somewhere in the house. They usually tried to tie the music in with the news event. It was very well done. There was also a radio version which started with 1955 and went right through to 1990? ( I taped most of those too). I think the TV version added a few more years when it was repeated for the first time.
 
So between us all, we could probably make a boxed set! OK, it might not be top quality because of the cross copying, but it could be done.

I think rights is a bit of a sticky issue in general at the moment. I did hear a radio 4 debate a while back where somebody was asking why certain old programmes couldn't be repeated, or some others put onto Iplayer. Even though the programmes were produced by the BBC, they said they didn't own all the rights, and the holders couldn't be tracked down so we lose the ability to listen or watch quality programming that deserves to be seen.
 
Are you thinking of 'I love the 90's'?

That was stupid as it was only two years after the end of the decade. But I would love to them do a rock and roll years for the 90's. I think enough time has moved on now for it to not seem daft.
 
The Irish [RTE] version of this was called 'Reeling in the Years' but didn't go all the way back to 1950s,
The Rock and Roll Years hasn't been shown since it was on originally. I think it came right up to the eartly 90s
They might be waiting for a bit of unfinished storyline on N. Ireland news to be finally dealt with before showing it again.
 
Some of the 80's episodes are on Youtube. I remember them from the mid 90's. I don't think Ive seen the earlier ones but would like too.

Wish they'd do a series on the 90's. I love the 90's was total shit.
