The Rock n Roll Years 1956-1989 Who Remembers it?

I hope bbc executives are directed to this website. An updated series would be a ratings winner. How often can the beeb boast that this last few years!

I think there was an 'eco friendly' version of the Rock n Roll years called "The Rock n Roll Years- Years That Rocked The Planet' it was about 2 Hours long and covered a wide number of years covering major ecological disasters.

A friend of mine said he has 1973 on tape and that it was on BBC THREE last year. Does anybody else remember seeing it?.
I must have been working hard that week , to miss it. Maybe theres a chance of more repeats.

The Rock and Roll Years ended with 1989. There were four series - 1956-63, 1964-71, 1972-80 and 1981-9.

I don't see why they can't do a 90s one. I'd love to see it.

Probably because in the 90s the music industry hadnt lost a lot of money from illegal downloaRAB. So to recoup it has got greedy. If you notice a VHS video of TV programes like OFAH was originally uncut. Now the series has been put on DVD its been cut to shreaRAB due to musical copyright greed.

I would really love to see this series from the start again.

I have them all on video when the BBC repeated them in the 90's - a great show that doesn't have it's rose tinted spectacles on like most other nostalgia shows - it's not all spangles and Quatro - it captures the perioRAB perfectly

Ok folks , lets keep up the capaign to get it repeated. just ring 08700100222 and choose the option to speak to someone about a bbc programme and request a repeat for the entire series from 1956-1989.

Thanks again

Looks like i spoke too soon. on sunday 9th of march bbc four were originally going to show TRARY 1961 as part of mad men season. Now its showing pop goes the sixties 1961-1966. not a bad replacement but I want ALL the the rock n roll years. Not just the odd one at the odd time. Hurry up with the new series too!

Although both films had a UK release in 1978, they were very much in the public consciousness the previous year due to the advance release of promo clips and stills - a standard marketing technique now, but still relatively novel back then.

Why isn't there a Facebook Group or something for it being repeated, if they can campaign for Rage Against The Machine being Christmas No.1 then this shouldn't be any different.

I'm the only fan keeping this thread in the spotlight! lol. Still no word of any repeats. Thought I had found one on an old tape in the loft, instead, it was taped over by a home video!!.

The Injustice of it all!.

Someone on you tube has posted up an early evening rundown of that nights bbc 1 programmes from may 1984. At the very end it mentions the Rock n Roll years 1966. According to ep.guides on the net, in 1984 a pilot episode of The Rock n Roll Years was shown, 1966. When it was re-shown again in 1987 as part of the 1960's ep.guides lists it as being "different from pilot" meaning that this episode must be very rare and hard to find.

I have sent him an e-mail to see what he has. Fingers crossed.

I can remember recording a lot of these on video back in the 80s, though don't know if I kept them. Unfortunately I was one of those folks who went for a V2000 format Grundig. Still got the tapes (though I don't know what's on most of them), but don't have a working machine to play them on....

I'd love to be able to check what's on them.... and have the time.....

I remember these shows and I loved them all, especially the 70's ones and 1983 with some great music and androgyny too boot! I have some of the 80's ones on video but I just wish they were available on DVD. Much better than the dross that's on TV now! :)
