The Ratings Thread (Part 13)

Thanks D.M.N. Those are excellent statistics and really revealing. :) I'm sure the Soap forum will love them being able to map the declines to certain 'eras'.

What I notice is simply how closely the soaps track eachother. Their comparative declines over the period are within 2 percentage points, and - even more remarkably - the rises in 2003 and this year are replicated across all the soaps. The only exception is EE's small rise last year - which I suppose was aided by the end of the Tuesday clash.

I suppose weather has something to do with the correlation. The snowy Jan-Feb certainly helped this year) but there's got to be something even more than that.

I have seen to aRAB on ITV1 at all ZoeM. Looking forward to the Wednesday episode and I have no idea what's going to happen. ITV should really plug it!

The Beeb definitely moved Neighbours to 14:15 and Doctors to 13:45 during the final few months. I used to watch it once or twice a week at lunchtime but then stopped after the timeslot change and started watching in the evening.

Spooks is so consistent, hardly fluctuating at all week to week - glad it has been re-commissioned.

Baring in mind that includes +1 then it seems to be down on the last series. Bit lower than I was expecting considering it was advertised during the X-Factor but at least its better than anything else C4 have at the moment! It may rise over the week though.

Yeah, looking back at it, I can't see the stunt harming it ratings-wise. I just thought it was a bit off but hey, what do I know? :o

Excellent rating for it, I think it being Friday night boosted it, which is why I actually like the scheduling, although I can't see why they aren't bothering tonight.

Nothing too remarkable elsewhere, although New Tricks continues to do brilliantly. Paul O'Grady is doing OK, and I think he'll increase a bit in the Spring with no New Tricks. Slightly better for Daybreak and Lorraine, hopefully it'll go up next week when the schools are back.

Real Crime did especially well for ITV1, given that it was a repeat.

There's a big potential market for viewers for the channel post-News at Ten, but they won't spend any money there because it's outside peak. A real missed opportunity.

I'm guessing it was getting too expensive especially with Trevor Eve in the cast and they couldn't really replace him or Sue Johnston. Silent Witness gets similar ratings but I imagine is much cheaper especially as the only name in the cast is Emilia Fox.

I'm sure they'll be able to find a replacement, they have Case Histories and there are plenty of crime novels that could be adapted for television.

if they did they are pretty slow thinkers. Its been getting the same figures for 4-5 weeks now.

you wouldnt want to be next to these guys in an emergency if it takes them that long to have a thought.

The only move Coronation Street should be making is back to 7.30pm on a Wednesday with episodes being displaced to Sunday at 7.30pm when the football is on. The current set up, whilst not ideal, works well for ITV and the Monday/Friday 8.30pm episodes are now fairly established. The problem just lies with the Thursday episode. Moving from 7.30pm on a Monday would be catastrophic.

I think the gap was reduced to 1-2 weeks which was extremely close.

It doesn't help that Seven keeps making the break longer. The 2006/7 season break was 6 weeks in duration. In 2008/9 this increased to 7 weeks. And then last year, 2009/10 it was extended to 8.

I can just imagine the outcry over here if Corrie or EE took 8 weeks off, even in the summer!

Hello there :)

Haven't been on in 2 weeks - went to China and I didn't really trust the security in an internet cafe :D

What I'm expecting is:
X Factor to be getting around 13.5-14.5m
Strictly getting higher ratings than last year by a good margin
Million Pound Drop to get around 2.2m per night

Am I right on any??

SPOTY will be 7pm - 9pm on the 19th. It has been for about five or so years since it went on tour and the public were let in. Dec 12th and 19th therefore are still clear at the mo at 9pm and a three parter would fit nicely with part three sometime over Xmas.

Upstairs, Downstairs is highly likely to be a candidate for Xmas.

As for 2011, it looks like on hell of a strong start again. What with what has already been announced, there is still stuff like Silent Witness, Waking the Dead & Hustle to name but three to fit in the schedule too.

Excellent for Emmerdale. Although I rarely watch nowdays, the quality always looks good when I flick on so it deserves it's ratings. I wonder what ITV would think if Emmerdale edged ahead of Corrie, on Thursdays at least.

Good to see C4's comedy budget getting an extra

I always used to defend TXF in the past as up until last year there was at least one with genuine talent but this year it's just dire. Every contestant can be compared to someone from previous years, it's just all so tired and contrived. And Simon Cowell, who used to be so honest, pretenRAB that they're all superstars.

Hells Kitchen was dropped due to a cost issue and replaced with Kitchen Burnout. Series 4 outrated series 3 and ITV have a habit of axing it after every series; I wouldn't be surprised to see it return at some point. Gordon Ramsey isn't exactly setting the Channel 4 ratings alight but even so I think it could be worth ITV poaching him back.

Halloween is much bigger in America than it is here but producers do taylor episodes based around holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving and sometimes Easter. Over here, we're sort of restricted too just Christmas specials although Vicar of Dibley did have an Easter special.
