The Ratings Thread (Part 13)

It was mentioned earlier that after Waterloo Road the on air announcer said it was back next Wednesday,

They did - which was absurd given that they had to know it was not on at all next week (all TV mags printed last week knew it).

Moreover, they told viewers to reset their series link for the new BBC 1 HD starting next Wednesday.

That will have thousanRAB of viewers reeling in frustration. It is necessary because the programmes are switching channels from BBC HD to BBC 1 HD and series links will not carry across channels.

BUT there is no BBC 1 HD in the EPG listings yet and it probably will not be in there till next week. Maybe not even until Wednesday as it is usual not to add new channels until the day they start.

Sky Channel 143 for instance just shows the programmes that will be on BBC HD next week Wednesday to Friday (when it will not by then be on Channel 143) and there is no way at all to set any series links or recordings for BBC 1 HD as told to do as no such channel is there.

So why announce after priogrammes (and Waterloo Road is by no means the only time that BBC 1 have made this announcement so far this week) when it is going to get viewers attempting to do the impossible.

Indeed in Waterloo Road's case if its off air until January no series link has ever carried that far so would fail anyway. (They last a few weeks at best).

The BBC could quite easily have put the correct BBC 1 HD and BBC HD schedules up from last Wednesday as the EPGs run a week ahead. That would have made all these messages sensible and possible to implement by trhe viewer.

But to choose not to do that and then mislead viewers asking them on air to do something they cannot possibly do seems doubly rather silly.

Sort of another of ITV1's 3 million viewer shows, of which there are many. Perhaps they seem to be missing the point with reality now: celeb based shows were more of a mid noughties concept, and the audience have largely moved on. No one is that interested in two Z listers rowing in a strange environment any more, with one long running exception.

On E4 Hollyoaks Later had a fairly strong 560,000 including +1 across the 9pm hour.

Better than I expected. But One Tree Hill was hit hard in a later 10pm slot, dropping from 448,000 to 279,000.

Thanks D.M.N.-really interesting stats there.

I didn't realise it was Eastenders best year since 2005! That's extraordinary really and great for their 25th year. The lack of Emmerdale clashes must surely have accounted for around 3% of their increase aswell.

Similarly with Emmerdale, it has picked up virtually all lost ground from when Anita Turner nearly ran the show into the ground and by the end of the year will hopefully be on par with 2006's performance, especially with all episodes already making the 7m mark, still in October.

Corrie's 50th anniversary should make sure it has its best year since 2007 and should pull ahead even more of EE by the end of the year. That said it doesn't really deserve it based on the first half of the year.

hope there's a royle family, there was talk of a Gavin & Stacey Christmas special but i think if that happens it won't be until next year

I think I've got that, even though it's not entirely in English.

But who or what is JLS? Is this big news?

Made the front page of tomorrow's Daily Mail - big picture of Christine and the headline "

Horrific for ITV1 yesterday

Daybreak down to 530k

Emmers - 7.2m
Grimefighters - 2.2m
Fiddles Cheats & Scams - 2.9m
71 Degrees North - 3.2m
News at Ten 1.7m

Crimewatch won the 9pm slot with 4.3m

It wouldn't solve the problem in the long run but it would be a short fix but it would create problems for Wednesdays and Fridays.

Blue BlooRAB would be a good one for Five to pick up, when Mentalist goes on a break, they should premiere BB in its place and then move Mentalist to a weekday slot.

EastEnders does well with Young people;)

Hollyoaks is dire anyway and i saw an episode just last week and it's worse now then ever and there's hardly anyone in the show casual/ex viewers would remember.

Another solid rating and a rise of 16% on Monday night - 647,000 including +1.

An encore showing of The Event attracted 289,000 afterward.

Richard Armitage is good in the show, but I agree they may well have to replace him, it worries me that none of the new characters have really made an impact.

Richard Armitage is in the Captain Amercia movie as well

Thanks Barkers_Nipple. :)

I'd argue that Rod Stewart is a bigger name than the other singers he's had on though. I didn't think he'd do that well but I thought he'd definitely get one of Piers' higher ratings - maybe last week's rating had a knock-on effect too? I won't be surprised if he's above 5m next week too with SuBo on. He's definitely has better guests this time, which have boosted his ratings nicely.

Yes its hard to believe the kind of figures achieved, and regularly too. Due to its high profile omnibus, and the fact that they were added into the main show EE was the number one watched show for not all that far short of three years consecutively in the late eighties. Neighbours was the talk of Britain and Bread is the prime example of overkill when the number of episodes turned it into a virtual soap. Allo Allo 17 million on Christmas Eve is amazing too.

Also a stark reminder of how strong LOTSW was in the eighties taking primetime on Christmas Day with another 17 million.

You do realise there is this thing with a few people in a jungle in a few weeks, which means Corrie will have to move out of the 8:30pm on a few days probably?
