The one horror film that scared the pants off you as a kid

Anyone seen the horror top ten on RAB news? Nightmare on Elm Street on top as the scariest with TCM, Saw, Halloween and Candyman coming in after that.

The original Nightmare on Elm street is one of the few films last 20 or so years that truly scared me. Films like the original TCM, the Last House on the Left and the Ring have blown me away but never scared me like NOES did. The character Freddy Krueger was in my head for days afterward.. Then I saw the sequels and he lost all his ability to scare because they turned him into a comedian :D

Any thoughts on that top ten. Pretty surprised stereotypical indestructable slashers like Friday the 13th and comedys like Scream feature so heavily.

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street
2. Saw
3. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
4. Halloween
5. Candyman
6. Friday The 13th
7. Scream
8. Hostel
9. Child's Play
10. I Know What You Did Last Summer

That scared the life out of me too! Although I was terrified of Freddie Krugar (sp?) and I still am and I'm now 21 :o everytime I see a picture of him I shiver. My next door neighbour's 4 year old son and daughter love it and watch it late at night and all

Oh and I was scared of Jaws too. Still can't watch it

Jaws, Amytville, The Omen, Nightmare on Elm Street, Poltergeist, (or other clown horrors!), and a film called Alligator! (about a croc being flushed down the toilet and terrorising a town!)

Thanks to Stephen King's IT i am also still frightened of clowns. One of my mates knows this and only a few days ago text me at 4am saying that there was a clown in my room, I actually looked around for one!!! I'm 21. lol.

Excorsist and Amityville also seem to have had a permanent effect on me.

Was a teen when I saw this and boy did it scare me!! Don't think I slept for a few nights. Persuaded my son to watch it a few years ago and he (who has seen most of the modern horror films) said it was the scariest film he'd ever watched!

The child catcher scene in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang scared me witless when I was a nipper!

As for whole films...IT of course. Silence of the Lambs frightened me as did Alien. I snuck downstairs to watch them on TV....

  • Jaws: Obvious one. I still have selacophobia to this day, even a mild case of pool-selachophobia.
  • Ghostbusters: That dog-monster thing that chases Rick Moranis (?) and attacks him outside a restaurant. And the horrible ghost-woman-monster thing at the end.
  • Tremors: This is a great comedy-horror-spoof film that everyone should see. As a kid the comedy spoof aspects sort of bypassed me. The idea of giant worms popping out of the ground and devouring you, so that you aren't safe anywhere, had me terrified.

Im surprised this hasnt been mentioned, but im 16 now and when i was about 8 or 9 The Exorcist scared me so much, i was worried that when the light was off and the door was shut that my bed would shake, or that i would see regan in my room, it scared me for months, watching it now it still scares me but not as much as it amuses me. Also the Evil Dead. that scared the crap out of me for agerz!! Is it just me or do people who are scared of films put something nice on the telly lmao like something which is not scary and funny, and play feel good songs 2 try and unscare themselves lol.

I cant believe hostel is in the final 10 scariest films when the shining and the exorcist isnt.

The end of Friday 13th....just when you think everything is going to be ok
Recently Saw gave me the creeps.
OH says she got spooked by Carrie

Friday Night films on ATV which I dared myself to watch. I was a teen when I saw The Changeling and the memory still senRAB a chill through me. Forever underated, it has an atmosphere not many films match.

Definatley the orginial Dawn of the Dead I watched that when I was about 9 and ever since I have had a fear of zombies eating me alive  :D When the new version came out I could'nt bring myself to watch it and I am 30 now !!! Such a chicken eh ?
