The one horror film that scared the pants off you as a kid

Reflections of Murder or the 1996 Diabolique were NOTHING compared to the very frightening original French version of the movie - Les Diaboliques made by Henry Georges Clouzot in the 1950's. This is the ultimate terryifying movie.

It HAS to be Jaws I and II.
Never made me scream so hard before - and yes, the lights were on - and the parents WERE in the room!

The Peanut Butter Solution (a rare Canadian film which seriously creeped me out)

The Monster Squad

Troll (creepy music)

Indiana Jones & the temple of doom (not a horror but the scene where the guy is sacrificed seriously disturbed me)

Poltergeist 2 (Reverend Kane played by Julian Beck CREEPY)

oh & IT

Well I suppose I can see how flying monkies might scare a kid. But when people mention them all I can think of is that bit in the Simpsons....."continue the research" lol

I hope I'm not the oldest here. :D

Many of the seventies horrors already mentioned here scared me witless.

Psycho still has an effect on me to this day every time I have a shower.

However, one movie that hasn't been mentioned yet that scared the wits out of me was Dario Argento's, Suspiria. I don't know what scared me more..the visuals or the music. It was terrifying and I literally thought I'd have a heart attack.

If you haven't seen this and you're a horror buff, this is a must and I think it would still give today's top horrors a run for their money. ;)

There were two films that scared me a lot when I was a kid - the first was a movie where a wife and a friend kill the hubby and throw him into the swimming pool in the school that they run - but the body never comes up so they drain the pool and there is NO body - and then bit by bit the wife starts seeing the dead hubby - I won't spoil the ending but it was very scarey - especially when you are about 9 or so! Then there was this other one where I think this young couple moved into this new house and I can't really remember the build up but basically these creepy things came and got the woman - but they were scared of the light and she managed to grab a camera and the flash scared them off for a while but I think in the end she died!
If anyone can remember the names of these movies - I think they were made for TV movies I would be grateful - thanks!

I actually surprised there isn't one film mentioned yet and it did terrify me, it also explains for my phobia with spiders... Arachophobia does that ring a bell? with Jeff Daniels and also the spider crawling out of the old geezer nose's *shudders* makes me itch everytime i think about it.

Ah there are some of us girls (not maney) who appreciate good horror. I mean I am not a fan of modern horror. Films like Jeepers Creepers etc.

I like the old zombie films. Especially Lucio Fulci. He was master of gore in my opinion.
I will pm you about that jazzed up zombie tune. I like the sound of that :D
I have the original version. Fabio Frizzi hey :)

I agree with some on here. The first horror I saw was the original Halloween. I was 11 or 12 (was in year 5 if i can remember) and at the time my bro and I shared a bedroom with a tv set. He, the older, lazier brother, fell asleep within 2 mins of it starting while I stayed awake to watch the horror unfold.
My bejeesus that movie scared me SH1TLESS. I drank a big mug of hot chocolate during the movie, and I needed to pee, but was scared to go in fear of seeing a white masked man when I opened the door. It was coincidence - the first proper horror film (previous experiences were simpsons tree house of horrors :D ), was one of the scariest horror films to be made.
At the moment, I am a big fan of horror films, but have been disappointed with the modern re-makes. The oldies like John Carpenter and Wes Craven need to be involved to make the current horrors true 'classics'

I remember watching Quatermass And The Pit when I was little and it scared me silly. I love horror films now, but there really are very few well made ones that get under your skin. Poltergeist was scary and very good.

Another scary thing I saw as a child was one of the plays for TV called The Stone Tape. That was also pretty scary.

TCM. I saw it at a friend's house when I was about 11. It frightened the life out of me. At the time it was banned and I never saw it again until I was an adult and it didn't seem at all scary then.

I kid you not, but a week after seeing that film in the 1970s my bed did shake! I heard the dressing table mirrors rattle as well.
I sat up all night with the light on. Heard on the radio the next day that there had been an earthquake a few miles away.
