The Mentalist (Merged)

I hope they don't sell it, it's probably the only programme I watch on Five.

About Kristina, I think they left that ambiguous as to what happened to her, whether she ran away (seems unlikely to me) or was taken. They didn't find a body.
I thought the story of the weak was weak, very silly.

The first episode was good but not great. The main character is great and the show has the potential to be brilliant if written well like the chemistry between the team if that is exploited well
I will watch next week but at the moment I can't see why it is getting those brilliant ratings in the US

Three more still to go (Thursday's episode was "Red Sauce") http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1196946/episodes#season-1

I hope they don't make us wait until March again before they air season 2 here. It starts in the US in Sept, so hopefully we'll get it some time later this year.

You and I are polar opposites. :D I couldn't even sit through one episode of Lie To Me - it was so boring. The Mentalist is my fav show by far and Simon Baker is very charismatic. I also like the supporting cast - they're all reasonably good looking and the characters make me laugh (intentionally), so if the story ever rambles, there's plenty to keep me watching. ;)

I was pretty annoyed we didn't find out who Red John was after all the build-up and hype, especially in the documentary before. They obviously wanted to keep the strong storyline in for next season and i'm not sure we're ever going to find out who RJ is now until the last ever epsiode:(

Can't they think up plots good enough to carry future seasons, instead of the "Red John" arc? It is interesting but i'm sure it will tire soon.

Maybe Red John is someone on the team? I've always thought there was something suspicious about Cho. And a mad idea occurred to me yesterday that Van Pelt (RED HAIR!) could also be RJ.
(I am clutching at straws here!:D)

I agree I think it's a great programme and also hope that Five show the second series this year rather than waiting until next year.

For Info:

Five is showing the last 2 episodes of Series One on 20th August at 9.00pm and 10.00pm.

Also on the same day they are showing 2 specials, one at 8.30pm - The Mentalist Revealed and at 8.30pm - Inside The Mentalist.

Enjoyed the episode, seems like a good premise, i just hope that the rest of the series can keep up the pace and the interest that the first episode created I thought that the scene in his house at the end was particularly chilling, with him sleeping underneath the smiley face.

Glad that Five is holding back House for a good programme, i think the wait will now not seem so long with The Mentalist to watch.

I did enjoy the finale but I think they need to add another arc for season 2 in addition Red John perhaps another serial killer that the CBI are looking for.

My theory about Red John which may be rubbish is that RJ is more than one person perhaps a group of killers.

The skywriting of the Red John symbol was great! I do enjoy seeing the darker side of Jane in his pursuit of RJ. Thursdays at 9pm will be a lot emptier without the show now.

Yeah Simon Baker is perfect in his role, but I think all of them are. I think Robin Tunney is just fantastic as Lisbon. And I just found out last night that Owain Yeoman is Welsh! His American accent is brilliant and so is Simon Baker's.

This Mentalist is just like Psych but without the humour and decent stories.
I won't be watching anymore.
Its trying to be something its not.

Yes I agree, it's one of my favourite shows too. I never watched House after the 2nd series, it was too repetitive for me. My other half normally hates US shows but The Mentalist is his favourite programme at the moment.

Was expecting Red John to have a more masculine voice too. Glad he (or she?) made an actual appearance though. There is no way he would want Jane dead- he loves tormenting him.

Not the best episode (especially for a finale) but still enjoyable.

I really enjoyed it, but I think it's only Simon Baker that pulls it above other procedurals. Saying that, most procedurals that I watch are only good because of the leaRAB, i.e Damian Lewis - Life, William Peterson - CSI (altho no longer), Jamie Bamber - Law and Order London.

I totally agree. Have you seen any episodes of Castle? They have two or three actors thatt you have seen before so it is much harder to guess who did it. I have just (cough) watched the whole of series 2 back-to-back and it was very noticeable and made it much more interesting!
