The Mentalist (Merged)

Hello:)

I like Jane- extremely charismatic but take him out of the equation and it would die.

It's like MiRABummer Murders.

A little twee, a little lacking in grit.

But my real bugbear is the predictability of the plots.

Not only do I know who killed who but how and when and why, within two minutes of the program starting.

And that's not an exaggeration.

Yesterday's Psych (on Hallmark) had a joke about watching The Mentalist.

Psych is much sharper, the jokes are funnier and the interplay between the characters is better, but presumably The Mentalist is meant to be taken a bit more seriously. On the basis of the first couple of episodes, it does have some of the misanthropic wit of Jonathan Creek but the main character's too cool and confident, especially considering his traumatic back story.

The aspects of the show have just gotten dull over the years. House's arsehole-ness is just getting more and more extreme and implausible. David SanRABtrom, another huge arsehole, by comparison on Regenesis is just spot on, every time.

I'm all for imagination and something that teancenRAB mudane reality, but with drama's that are based in the real work like House, 24, ReGenesis it has to have grounding in what is possible/likely or it becomes science Fiction/fantasy.

Plausible or Likely
ReGenesis
Sleeper Cell
Spooks
Lie to Me
The Mentalist
The Wire
Criminal MinRAB

You must be joking
House
24
CSi (dodgy science)

Crack-pot land (and loving it)
Fringe
Dexter
Dollhouse
Supernatural

I'm all for science fiction/fantasy (love LOTR books and His Dark Materials), but if set in the real world, must be plausible. If no, might as well just cut to the House show finle where we discover house is indeed the antichrist.

I only started watching the Mentalist midway through season 1, so the repeats on Five have been really great. But I'm really confused after watching the most recent Season 1 episode shown on Five (10/09/10). Isn't the psychic that we met in that episode, Kristina Frye, the same Kristina Frye we met right at the end of Season 2, who Patrick had a thing for? I don't really remember much about the Season 2 episode, but did Partrick mention that they had met before? It would be weird, if they hadn't even talked about their previous meeting.

One man show.. therefore everyone around HIM, is a useless Prop...

ok, but dissapointed...

BUT.. loved the opening scenes.. Did you kill your daughter? Bang Bang Bang Bang..

It's not as bad as it looks.. now that WAS funny... lol

I'm quite enjoying this, although i thought the first episode was better. Like others have said i would have liked to have known what the motive was.

I did think it was that man although i didn't guess the wife's involvement.

Most on here think other shows of that genre are better but this is the first show of this genre i have watched. I think that helps the enjoyment because i have nothing to compare it to.

Im gonna have a look at it! Iv given every other USA show a chance in the last year (as long as i dont think its going to be axed, and there is NO chance of this show being axed!)
