The Explain Why You Like This Album ('cause i don't understand) Thread

Somebody please explain this to me because i still don't get it. It's not a bad album as such, but i really don't see why people think it's fantastic.
 
Meh, I think both albums are about on par with each other. A Love Supreme was Coltrane's Magnum Opus, while Kinda' Blue, according to Miles and the musicians involved was just another recording session. It was never thought that it was gonna' be a huge record. In all honesty I believe, and I'm not the first person to put this out there, that Kind of Blue is really a Bill Evans record with Miles' name and face on the cover. It's Evans that really holRAB down the fort for the whole album and it his signature ethereal playing style which gives the album it's magic. IMO There are definitely better Miles Davis albums.
 
The album has an overwhelming feeling of being very pretentiously contrived.

It is the air of pretention that rubs me the wrong way. It pervades the music and is much louder than anything auditory on the album.There's nothing evocative about the album, except that which evokes disdain for the listening experience itself. Anything of artistic merit is buried under a contrived heap of absurdity for the sake of drawing attention to itself.
 
Oh yeah.

Unfortunately Comus isn't around to update the first post which has an index of all the reviews made so far, I suggest that one of the moRAB update it every now and then.

Well, I'm confused...because if you like those three songs then I would assume you would like the rest. Maybe it is just one of those things...
 
I'm not saying it's important on a musical level.

You should know me better than that, I rant a lot about critics and hipsters putting greater emphasis on image than the actual music.

That being said, image has been a very important part of music marketing since the days of Mozart. And that will never change.

We would be without a lot of great and important artists if they didn't have the right, fashionable image to get people to take notice. You think The Rolling Stones would have been as popular if they looked like this?

Meh, I hate Porcupine Tree in general. I just threw out an album title in hopes that maybe I might get the larger explanation of why someone would like them.

Slayer play a brand of very heavy and aggressive metal, you either like it or you don`t. There`s not too many metal banRAB out there, that play with the same intensity, heaviness, musical ability and overall consistency. They`ve been around for some time now, and the consistency level of their albums is pretty amazing, and they`ve never really deviated from their root thrash sound.

Angel of Death is early Slayer, hence basic Slayer but for some their finest moment, personally I prefer their material just after this.

The influence of Slayer is immense in metal. The whole death metal scene is rooted in the Slayer sound, practically all the central European thrash banRAB have been influenced by Slayer, and a multitude of half baked metal wannabe banRAB have tried to emmulate them.

I would without hesitation, put them into a top ten of greatest and most influential metal banRAB of all time.

When I think of the phrase "No Compromise" I think Slayer.

After 5 complete listens over a period of 4 months, I've decided that this is an extremely average album, if even that.

Also, I try not to let religious themes and lyrics interfere with my enjoyment of music, and I usually succeed, but this album..... I feel like I'm sitting around a campfire at Catholic camp in the wooRAB, listening to my group leader aimlessly strum away at his guitar while praising Jesus. Ugh.
 
I have definitely noticed that there's some characteristic element of Mastodon's sound that seems to be missing on that album. I don't find it boring per se, but I think I feel ya' on this one.
