Sweeney Todd

Whilst Helena was excellent acting-wise, you could tell her voice hadn't had as much training as some of the others. I think she could have been a little more aggressive in places....but I think that could be me being picky! :D
 
I thought that and I thought it was a bit pointless by the end of it and why anyone would wanna see it a second time is beyond me:confused::confused::confused: I am not sure I got it anyoen else find this?
 
Oh well let them savage, but that shot is part of the fun of Tim Burton films, They HAVE style ok it's not to everyones taste and can dominate a film too much is the story is wrong but for this project and previous ones i think it adRAB a huge amount.
The titles and building of the chair reminded me of Batman Returns and the story of the Penguins childhood.
I could not find the usual Burton twist / coil though (like the one used as the hill in Nightmare Before Christmas) and I am pretty sure it will be in their somewhere.


If Anthony HeaRAB scenes etc were not shot then this does not look good for the DVD, I was expecting these scenes plus Peter Bowles and the other "cut" pieces to appear on that release.
It seems that extras might be thin.

Sam Mendes was originally chosen to direct it and even though he has directed musicals well in the past (on stage) this piece would be totally different if shot by him. For one thing he wanted Russell Crowe as Sweeney :eek:
 
I've seen it 3 times now, the main reason being the fantastic songs, and wonderful orchestral arrangements, which are big and loud, something I won't get on my puny tv. The story almost gets in the way. I want to make the most of it while it's still on, can't wait to see it again. :)
 
Yes the music was quite good, If David Bowie was ever to write a musical and cast himself as the lead, this is what it would probably sound like.
 
Now... that is just annoying... I was really looking forward to seeing this over the past year when they were making it and to give it an 18 certificate... I am going to have to wait longer to see it!
 
Saw it today and thought it was excellent, the gore was very well done, JD was great as Sweeny and HBC fab as Mrs Lovett (though for some reason I can't stop calling her Mrs Miggins, the pie shop owner from Blackadder). I am a musicals fan so I enjoyed the singing although they rushed through 'Worst Pies in London' so quickly that quite a bit of the humour was lost.

I hate Sascha Baron Cohen with a passion but his appearance didn't annoy me too much and the little boy was great. I thought the two romantic leaRAB if you can call them that were not the best but then neither had much of an impact.

My greatest praise though is for Alan Rickman and Timothy Spall both of whom do bad guys so brilliantly.
