Sweeney Todd

Fantastic film! Absolutely loved it when I saw it last week-end at a preview.

Ordered the soundtrack of the film online when I got home.
It arrived on Wednesday and have been playing it all week.

JD and HBC were brilliant as were all the other actors.
The lad that played Tobias is an absolute star as a previous poster said definately could see him in the revival of Oliver.

Will be going this week-end to see it again.

This film has been added to my list of all time favourite films. :):):)

saw it at the weekend and loved it. there was a couple next to us huffing and puffing as tho' they really weren't enjoying the songs tho'.

i know the blood wasn't too realistic, but it was all the more visual for it - the whole thing had Burton's stamp over it, so realistic looking blood would have stood out.

the only little thing that bugged me was that the shute for the bodies was going the wrong way! but Burton can do little wrong, Depp can do little wrong, and when they work together they can certainly do little wrong!

I wouldn't say this film was really gory. I would rate it 6 out of 10. About the trailer, i knew from the beginning that this was a musical. I had seen numerous clips and trailers which showed all of them singing. I think people just want an excuse to complain.

I think we're just supposed to assume that they did... :)

The ending was in keeping with the bleak tone of the movie. It wouldn't have felt right if they suddenly cut to a scene of the young couple after the final scene. The movie was about Sweeney's journey, so it started and ended with him.

Yeah I know what you mean- I wasn't expecting to laugh at all during the film but there were bits where all three of us couldn't help ourselves but have a little chuckle haha. It was very dark I agree but once I got used to it I really got into it and really enjoyed it- eager to see just what was going to happen next and how much more horrific the next turn of events was going to be.

It's not singing from start to finish but there are a fair number of songs. I think it's also fair to say that it's the sort of films that people who don't traditionally like musicals may enjoy....

I didn't like it either - I can see that it was a well-crafted and inventive treatment of the original play, but I just felt very underwhelmed by it.

Just got in from seeing this and I thought it was fab. Haven't seen anything like it before and thought it was very unique.

JD and HBC were fab, as was Alan Rickman. I don't think it will be for everybody, but for me, it was well worth my ticket money :)

Wow, I'm sure I'm going to get slated for this then....

but even as a Depp/Burton fan, I didn't love this. It was ok, good even, but it definitely didn't meet my expectations.

I felt that Johnny Depp wasn't entirely convinced by his own performance. It seemed rather lacklustre in places and the voice/facial expressions were a little too close to Jack Sparrow for my liking. The whole stance and demeanour was very similar to me. His voice was ok, but then he isn't a singer so should be commended for what he did acheive.
However, I dont think he deserved his Golden Globe. I feel that whilst it was a good performance, it wasn't anything that another decent actor could pull off just as well.

HBC was great, very charismatic.

I wasn't sure about the romantic storyline. I actually liked the young guy, but I felt that Burton should have either been more committed to this storyline and given it more time, or cut it out (but then I suppose it would have left a big hole in the story). I was rather confused when there was no resolution to their storyline at the end. The last we saw, Johanna was in the box and the guy had gone to get the carriage. What then?

Whilst I agree with that comment (I noted the same in my post), I guess we assume that...

... they got away just fine, as everyone who was a threat to them was dead and gone. I'd have liked to have seen a panning shot of the carriage or something, but I guess TB wanted the ending shot with Depp and the wife.

I don't understand what there's not to get. The plot at the end was fairly straight forward...

Todd realises the Beggar woman was in fact his wife Lucy and he has killed her. Mrs Lovett says she never lied to him - she told him Lucy took the poison not that she died. Knowing she has been lying to him, preventing him from being reunited with his wife, Todd kills Lovett. Whilst mourning his wife, Toby reappears and kills Todd having already figured out what he's up to. We are to assume that Anthony returned for Johanna exactly as promised and they left together

In the US it is rated R which means it can be seen by anyone though those under 17 years must be accompanied by an adult.
Seems more sensible than the 18 rating in the UK.

I just got back from seeing it and i thought it was fantastic. Something really different and it really worked for me.

I'd tell people not to be put off by the gore because one thing i cannot stomach or watch is throat slitting - but after the first, you realise it's not that bad and you can just enjoy the film.

Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter were fantastic and i really enjoyed their scenes together. Little Toby was so cute. :p Sacha Baron Cohen was hilarious aswell. :D

Alan Rickman was horrible as was Timothy Spall; but that's their characters. :p

I loved the seaside scenes. :o

I guessed
that the begger woman was infact Todd's wife.
but my frienRAB were really shocked and suprised. I also
hated poor Miss Lovett being burned!
:(

The songs are quite catchy too. If you're not a fan of musicals, then don't worry because after the first 15 minutes you will just get into the film and understand what they are saying.

Can't wait to see it again!!! :p
