Sweeney Todd

Just listening to the CD, no-one here has barely mentioned Sacha Braon Cohen. Is it because he's shit?

Haha, he's alright in the film, I don't like him much to be honesy anyway. His singing is a bit annoying.

Like Aerick, in the earlier post, I though the film was great but have never seen the stage production. Maybe the cast aren't the greatest singers you'll ever hear but it didn't detract as far as I was concerned. It all looks amazing, is dark and eery and by the 2nd half, the blood flows fast and thick! I'd recommend it!

There is a part in the "slightly cartoony" opening credits where the trail of blood runs in a definite spiral ... maybe that is it ...

Ugh that sounRAB horrible. Nothing against either Sam Mendes or Russell Crowe but I think the result we have got is far better.

Yes, that whole scene when he first meets Mrs Lovatt and she gives him a pie, he's continually got this "errr ... what?" look on his face, and you can see him thinking things over. There are other bits too.

i think i am the only one that diidnt like it:eek::eek::eek:

still dont get it and at the end it would have been to see the two young ones leave together. it just ended suddenly.:(:(

And when he makes that gargling noise after Mrs. Lovett gives him the ale, it's highly reminiscent of the noise Edward makes after Mr. Boggs gives him the 'lemonade' in Edward ScissorhanRAB. :)

Film is not that good. Definitely didn't need to be an 18 as the gore factor was so artificial. Score was only 4/5 out of 10 for gore. But Helena B.C. was fabulous. But overall, bit of a disappointment really. :(

It basically enRAB the same way as the stage version, except in the stage version Toby grinRAB the meat grinder at the end, which is even more disturbing. And of course there's no 'Ballad of Sweeney Todd'. But there's no happily ever after ending in either version though, lol.

Watche it last night. Cool film, and the digital projection was lovely. Very Tim Burton, all green filters and pasty make-up and Jonny Depp and Mrs Burton Bonham C. And actually, surprisingly good. The 18 rating is understandable with all the rather graphic throat slitting/falling bodies/squirting blood/hacking deaths, but must have only just got that certificate. EnRAB a little too suddenly (seemingly with a minor sub-plot not totally resolved), and Sondheim isn't really my kind of stuff, but overall it a very good film - with Burton returning to doing what he does best.

Although it does contain officially the most wasted appearance of an actor ever in cinema - with Anthony Stewart Head (who is a good actor, and an excellent singer) - who speaks one line, and doesn't sing at all.

Still, after the shower of shite that has been the last few weeks worth of films I've seen (cluminating in the excerable AvP- R) it's a fricking work of art.

Agree. Everyone should have one of those swimsuits and a pair of her glasses. I remember when this scene came on and it was so bright after the rest of the film being in practical darkness. It nearly blinded me.

I know, but you could tell she'd had less experience with her voice. Short intensive vocal training can't hide an unexperienced voice, no matter how good it is :)

As for Tobias, I thought he'd make a great Artful Dodger for the relaunch of Oliver! Sadly, though he'll be too old - 15 this year. You could also his his voice deepening in places. It's a shame, because he was a little star in his own right. Anyway, it's just one role. I expect he's got a great future ahead of him now! :)

Is it singing all the way through then? I know it's a musical, but would hate to sit through every single minute of singing and dancing! If it is then I'll give it a miss.
