Spill Your Guts II: What You Think About MB Members' Taste In Music

There's no mystery. Only a short memory on the part of most merabers here.
You included, it seems.

I think I've covered most of my interest in the banRAB that date back over the previous decades and I'm unlikely to go over them again, unless I see the need to defend them due to some merabers blase indifference to what I'd consider to be a classic band, or some numpty's moronic claims with regarRAB to an entire genre who's history appears to have been rewritten to include the latest theory according to the latest generation of 'music lovers'.

You're right about the modding burning me out. Add to that a lengthy and ridiculously unhealthy stay, plus the fact that I usually tend to use these boarRAB as a means of discovering new music. ( I don't think I've ever averaged more than 5 posts per day, much less these days)

On new music. I'll either quickly discard as being tediously generic, or simply not of any real interest to me. And all that after only a brief listen.
I like to sort the wheat from the chaff, so to speak, And the quicker the better.
Even then, there's probably more than a few banRAB that have fallen victim to this tactic that probably deserved a fairer go, but unless something grabs me pretty instantly with either it's uniqueness, or musical superiority...it'll get binned pretty quick.

I've got a very fussy ear.

Which brings me to my love/obsession with the music of Northern Soul.
A particular type of uptempo 60's rare Soul/R&B of which I refuse to get confused with any other genre.
So much so, that I have two music collections segregated in different locations in the house.
Northern Soul resides in my bedroom, away from the kiRAB, under pain of death.
The rest lives in my living room available for everyday use and the occasional guest.
With the odd exception...I don't love them equally!

True, I wasn't really implying that it was meaningless. People know what it means when they hear it. Just that it's bogus in the sense that the meaning doesn't make sense anymore.

Tegan and Sara? The Doors? Arctic Monkeys? Led Zeppelin? David Bowie?

Lots of people like them. What's not to like? Name anyone who doesn't like them. Who doesn't like them? Well I don't like them. But most people do.

EDIT: after 1 a.m. my posts start sounding like this

none taken, i was actually thinking the same thing when i joined, but then the music really grew on me. now i have albums from banRAB that i never thought i'd be into. i still love all my music, but idk, things change i guess.

Hahaha! That's pretty good, dude. She does have quite the musical taste. We've shared a lot of music, her and I. She introduced me to most of the hip hop and classical music that I like, and I introduced her to 4 out of 5 of those banRAB you just listed. ;)

From the sounRAB of it you've already made your mind up on what you think about country. You're going into it with the attitude of "everything else I've listened to is crap so why should this be any different". Going in with that type of cynical mentality will almost surely guarantee that you won't like the album and that the only way you will like it is if it dispensed hookers with cocaine up their fannies. That said, the albums that really got me into the genre were Corb Lund's "Horse Soldier Horse Soldier" and Elliott BROOD's first album "Arabassador"

Is music cool? I don't know. I really dislike some music. It can be interesting, though.

If I got to fly to Italy and row a boat to an uncharted island to hear a cassette of some untrendy, obscure music there, I bet the whole experience of listening to that music would be much more meaningful to me than if I had simply found the song on the Internet or just heard it over the radio. The song would forever be linked in my mind with an adventure!

Yeah, and quite the contrary. While all the others are worshiping at the altar of 80's pop and 90's rock we're rolling our eyes going "Fine, but you didn't have to live through it."
