Spill Your Guts II: What You Think About MB Members' Taste In Music

Boo Boo - I find Boo Boo to be the most frustrating person on here as he clearly does have a lot of interesting things to say about music but he wastes it all on the same handful of banRAB he was taking about 4 years ago.
Also it's almost like he's afraid to have any of his own opinions on something. Just take a look at any band he likes. All the albums that are considered good HE finRAB good, all the albums that are considered average HE finRAB average, all the albums that are considered bad HE finRAB bad. His taste in music almost comes across like a generic all music guide write up. There's so sentimentality, there are no stories , there are no little personal quirks in his tastes.
And it also seems to me that unless it's technical or commercial he has absolutely no idea what makes a song good, which is why he always does things like run down folk music because they're not great guitarists or great singers, totally missing the point of what folk music actually is.
And let's ignore his idea that emotion in music can't be a factor as to why something is good, possibly the saddest thing I have ever seen any fan of music say.

You're probably right, seeing as I know almost nothing about techno/dance music and you know quite a lot. I'm just referring to the songs that, ie, repeat a single line over and over and over. grr!

Well that was just stupid on my part. What I should say is that what other people listen to doesn't bother me; I won't dislike anyone or look at someone differently for any type of musical taste. However, I guess I do care about what people listen to because knowing who has similar musical tastes allows me to know who's suggestions will most likely be something I enjoy. And I don't like it when people won't give something a chance. I guess that's really what I meant; you're right I do care about it.

Where are you from? da L.I.V? Liverpool?

I bet Aphex Twin would be one of them artists that would be appreciated best live, I've only heard Richard D. James album but it was good.

The Boy With The Aarab Strap fersure. Followed closely by Tigermilk. Love them both a hell of a lot

ITT: Boo Boo shows how little attention he has paid to anyone's tastes.

Anways my turn:

Tore:

If I could marry someone's music tastes it would be this guy, we're almost identical with a lot of things, if I like an album it's almost guaranteed he'll like it, and vice versa. All of his reccomendations have been spot on, and he's always available to upload whatever I may need. Geniune class.

Anteater:

Read above, always reccomenRAB something new on what is essentially a daily basis. I unfortunately don't have time to listen to everything, but what I do listen to is always so great. Has been a pretty big influence on me recently, which says a hell of a lot about how much I respect his taste.

Dac:

Great taste in music outside of a few banRAB we're guaranteed to dissagree on. Likes pretty much everything I've reccomended him, which certainly shows he can recognise greatness. And that says a lot. On that subject, try the Quest For Fire album again, I've gone through three stages with it:
1. Initally great
2. Was my initial reaction wrong?
3. Wow this has grown a lot on me again, it's awesome!
Still it's not as good as Sleepy Sun, but you really can't expect it to be.

Seltzer:

Your musical compatibility with Seltzer100 is Super

Music you have in common includes Wishbone Ash, Frank Zappa, The Mars Volta, King Crimson and Windir.

END.OF.DISCUSSION

Urban Hatemonger:

His top four banRAB on last.fm are: The Fall, The Clash, David Bowie and the Rolling Stones. Anyone who dissagrees with this is a failure and does not deserve to post here.

Jackhammer:

A lot of it is good, some is questionable. But at the end of the day there's just too much there. A lot of us are eclectic, but not to this level. Willing to try anything, but I fear it doesn't leave all that much room for reflection.

Ethan:

I love the guy to bits, but some of the worst taste imaginable at times, at least three or fours years ago, cringeworthy. However he likes a lot of good music too. People seem to forget this. Enjoyed Leaf Hound and that's a winner in my book.

That's basically everyone who I know enough about to comment on their musical tastes.

I got driven away from the ultimate-guitar forum by people like that, I mean it's great for you to have the knowledge and respect for who came before and inspired artists you like, but their close-mindedness that nothing good has come out since 1976 is a little disturbing.
