Seth MacFarlane to Reboot The Flintstones

I wanted to quote this comment from the website. I'm not big on Seth's FOX shows anymore, that doesn't mean I think he'll make Flintstones just like Family Guy, but in the Stone Age.

Come on, give the guy more credit than that. Just because he uses a similar formula in his original shows doesn't mean he can't work really well with pre-made characters and a storyline given to him (His previous writing work on CN proves that).

I'll be honest here, I don't really care for the guy and his shows like Family Guy. But regardless, that doesn't mean that he would intentionally ruin the show. I'll always like the original Flinstones, and I imagine that Seth wouldn't want to try and screw up a classic like this.

They're cancelling 'the Simpsons?' I was never that big of a fan of the show, but I am surprised considering that has been one of the longest running animated series on Fox, possibly the longest.

I think he has the talent and restraint to make a respectful addition to the Flintstones. At least for two seasons, which probably as long as he'd go without losing interest and passing control to someone else.

That is if this was a Cartoon Network project.

Working with FOX Sunday night standards gives me less hope.
And how are they going to squish in another cartoon on Sunday night anyhow?

It's not entirely on him, but as you said he does oversee much of the production and does a lot of voice work. Anyway, him working on so many shows is his own fault. He could say no if he wanted to be more involved in each show to maintain some level of quality. It seems pretty clear that he's greedy to me.
Being indifferent about his work seems sort of arrogant to me. That means he doesn't care about the quality of it. I don't like the guy, so I haven't seen many interviews with him. I tried to watch "Inside the Actor's Studio" with him and some of the other voice actors, but once he started insulting Meg (very excessively) I had to quit watching it.

As for him not respecting the medium of animation, I get that impression based on the fact that he produces so many lazy, formulaic shows. Then there was that joke involving some girl that passed out on the floor. Peter, looking extremely pleased, climbs on top of her, waits a moment, then suddenly looks at the audience and shouts, "What are ya lookin' at? It's a cartoon!" So....because it's a cartoon it's okay for a married man to molest a young girl who's passed out on the floor? So because it's a cartoon the characters can do anything, and we're not supposed to care? How is that not insulting to the medium of animation? This lazy, indifferent attitude comes through to some degree in everything he makes.

You can think what you like, but I used to really enjoy Family Guy. My "bashing" is based on how lazy he is. If by "artwork" you mean the "art" (his shows) that he produces then you're right. I don't like it. If you're saying I don't like his character designs or something, I don't know where you got that from.

True, and I don't usually watch his shows. No one is being forced to read this thread either.

Yea, that's the internet for you. Everyone has their opinions. :)

P.S. Sorry if my post is considered off topic. (I didn't talk much about what Seth might do with this revamp.) I thought about not replying because I didn't want to get into an argument, but I wanted to better explain myself. To those of you looking forward to the Flintstones revamp, I can't deny that I'm also a little curious...

Interesting news, I wonder if he'll be able to alter his special brand of comedy into something a little more fan friendly before he gets bored and decides it's time to leave the show to spearhead something exactly like the other shows he's affiliated with. I'll definately check out the first few episodes to see how it all comes together but since I'm not really much of a fan of his or of The Flintstones I probably won't be sticking around very long as a regular.

Exactly. Cut the guy some slack, guys. He's written for plenty of children's cartoons before. I have faith in him doing a respectable job.

The more questionable thing is, why is the show airing on Fox? Is it going to be a conservative family comedy, or will we be seeing some TV-PG humor here?

I'm left wondering why they're bothering to reboot The Flintstones in the first place (probably because I've never really cared for it). Perhaps it's at least partly the name power of everything involved.

EDIT: To remove a line about The Simpsons that, were I not reading the thread to ensure I wouldn't say anything redundant, would not have been beaten to.

MacFarlene's best work was at Hanna-Barbera, and Flintstones was never that great as a show anyway. I'm more curious than offended. Hopefully it sticks with the original's art style or something similar rather than Family Guy-esque designs.

My bad, FYI.

If it's airing on FOX there's a good chance that it'll be TV14. I don't see where they would put a family friendly cartoon on that station. I know we shouldn't jump to conclusions but Seth getting a Flintstones reboot that will air on FOX kind suggests what will happen.

If Seth does plan to make this show raunchy, none of the main 4 characters will escape his grip. Whatever fanfic-eqsue fantasy people have about Betty will be seen to some degree.

The same could be said about 4Kids dubs, Disney XD, Cartoon Network's live action, Nickelodeon's live action, Disney Chanel, Disney Channel Original Movies, G4TV and MTV but that doesn't stop people from bashing them.

The article says the rights holders were concerned about how MacFarlane might handle the series, but since it's now a done deal, they obviously must have heard his ideas and felt it was something that could work. I'm willing to give him a chance.

And oh yeah, sorry Deadline Hollywood, but the first live action Flintstones was very good. One of the few cartoon-to-live action movie adaptations that I thought worked.

The only way I could see them doing this, is if they start from those 90 movies where Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm got married and had a kid. Than, if they did that Wilma and Fred would be way too old to do any thing fun :(

I'm not saying people can't express their unhappiness at this, I'm saying that when people start calling Seth "arrogant" and such [Which was being said] when no one here actually knows him. Me being a Seth fan gets a little offended when someone calls him "arrogant" or "lazy."

Of course no one here personally knows the man. But, judging from the increasingly formulaic nature of his shows and their increasing frequency (seriously, do we really need four MacFarlane "dysfunctional family" animated shows?), it's easy to see just how one could make that assumption, correct?

Again, Matt Groening has made exactly two animated shows over the last 22 years, and neither show is remotely like the other except for some vague visual design similarities. It's not like MacFarlane needs the money at this point (his grandchildren's grandchildren will be living off of Family Guy profits), so why does he feel the need to create a fourth show in the span of a dozen years, and one that's not even going to have any original characters, just a remake of a show he watched on TV back in -- ta-da! -- the 80's? It does smack of "these idiots will watch anything with my name on it" ego.
