Seth MacFarlane to Reboot The Flintstones

Being sponsered by a cigarette company doesn't immediately mean "FOR ADULTS". While you wouldn't see any children's shows being sponsered by those products today (Due to the amount of parental complaints, possibly lawsuits of companies trying to sell their products on children, laws, etc), smoking a cigarette back then was a lot less lashed out against than today. (Does anyone even remember that old Goofy "No Smoking" theatrical short?)

The show's writing was still tame, even by the standards back then. Before the Flintstones, cartoons often had extreme violence, smoking, some gambling, (rather tame) sex symbols, you could even get away with saying 'Jackass'. I don't think Flintstones did anything that topped that or was outrageous.

And I'm pretty sure television executives were a lot more laid back about couples together in the same bed as long as they weren't real people (Fred & Wilma being cartoons was OK, Lily and Herman Munster being monsters was OK, but Lucy and Ricardo were not OK).

Good point! I scare that is gonna be dubbed with Quebekers voices just because Flintstones and McFarlane names are much recognised here than avant-garde animations stuffs.

I can't give faiths to McFarlane since Family Guy was back in 2005. The two first seasons was great but season 3 shows that it's gonna be old.

I think if he reveres the original as much as he says he does and puts his heart into it I think he could come up with a decent show. Like Silverstar said, it's definitely better than if John K did it. Honestly, the Flintstones could use some new life injected into it before it fizzles into the past entirely.

Although I am aware that whenever his name is brought up, things don't go quite well. But am I the only one who thinks John K would do a better job rebooting The Flintstones? I'm not saying this because he produced the infamous Boo Boo Runs Wild, I'm saying this only because John seems to know a lot about the Flintstones.

I think in a sense the show was ahead of its time as far as the subject matter and humor. A lot of fourth wall breaking and deadpan commentary was prominent in the series.

Respectfully, I completely disagree. I only need to see John K.'s handling of Yogi Bear and The Jetsons to hope that he stays far, far away from anything iconic, and this is coming from someone who's not a big fan of Hanna-Barbera or The Flintstones.

MacFarlane's at least proven that he can work clean, taking his past work at HB/CN Studios into account, and he's an admitted big fan of the show, so he should at least be given the benefit of the doubt to handle the franchise with care.

Regarding the statement in bold: just because someone knows a lot about a particular work of fiction doesn't mean that they're automatically qualified to work on it. I know a lot about the Fantastic Four, but that doesn't mean that I should be chosen to direct the next FF reboot.

^Starbro, I was just throwing out a suggestion. Although if you want to see what John did with the jetons and Yogi, your going to need a lot of luck finding these. Although I dont remember the last time these shorts were online though, but then again. Who knows.

John k also worked with Hanna-Barbara I believe(Although it has been awhile since I've did any research with John K since some of my views have changed about him. Although I do admit there are times I feel sorry for him). I do remember reading a blog post that he talked about a proposed series with one certain Hanana-Barbara character that appeared in one episode. But Hanna-barbara didn't approve of it(I think that was it, then again it could have been something else).

But getting back onto the subject of this. My parents are a bit worried about this. They aren't fans of Seth's work, but they are worried that the Flintstones would be ruined by somebody who has been known for a show that they would consider offensive. Although I'm not agaisnt anyone liking Seth shows, If people like them. Fine, I'm not being angry at anyone. Although, I am questioning why this isn't getting aired on CN. I think this could work if this goes for the PG rating.

I've already seen them, so I'm not looking for them. Once was enough.

Admittedly, I'd be a lot more confident in this project's success if it were airing on Cartoon Network. A family-friendly franchise like The Flintstones and FOX prime time go together like M&Ms and spinach quiche.

I think Family Guy is the show that's ending. Seth MacFarlane has said in several interviews that he only wants to do 12 seasons of Family Guy.

I'm actually excited for this. A lot of people forget that Seth started out at Hanna-Barbera on shows like "Johnny Bravo" for Cartoon Network. I don't think he will bring any harm to "the Flintstones." I honestly doubt he would let William Hanna(R.I.P.) and Joe Barbera (R.I.P.) down.

I think at this point, that Family Guy is another case like The Simpsons; the series is doing too well on FOX and is making too much money for the network to just drop it in 2 years. FG would likely continue on FOX, with or without Seth's full involvement.

Given that Seth is Fox's biggest moneymaker at the moment, not to mention that does like, 85% of FG's voices, I don't Fox is going to have a choice in the matter.

Yeah, if Seth ever wanted to permanently quit one of his shows and FOX wanted to continue without him, Seth could easily reply with, "Well, good luck finding a voice replacement". I don't think even FOX would have the balls to do that.

I don't think The Simpsons are going anywhere. It'll be a part of Fox as long as Fox wants them or the cast and crew keels over. Which ever happens first.

I recall reading a couple of years ago that Family Guy had been recently renewed until the 2011-2012 season (the upcoming season), and American Dad is only going to be on in the 2011 half of the 2011-2012 season. So, if I was to hedge my bets, I think out of all of those shows, American Dad would likely be the sacrificial lamb to bring back The Flintstones.

I did write something about the developments weeks ago: http://www.thexbridge.com/macflintstones.html

I'm in the 1% of the animation community that actually thinks Seth on The Flintstones isn't going to be a bad idea. Oftentimes, I enjoy being in the minority in conversations like this.

Also, keep in mind that Flintstones vitamins and Pebbles cereal are still on the marketplace and still selling. Time Warner isn't going to let anyone frack with their bread and butter.
