Lidcalc has not worked for dp receivers since last year, a frimware upgrade changed the algorthymn.

All the same the location id is not affected by the phone line, what th SAT team told AEV was incorect. Like what was said above it is generated by the recevier id and time.

Newbie Here
I am going to get Bell Express VU next month
I have purchase there Digital Essential Package and get one HD reciver with the package
I was wondering about purchasing another ( used reciver ) on KIJIJI or somewhere
If I purchase a reciever NOT from Bell what do I need to know or do to have it functional...Thans for any help...Chris

You can have more than 6 receivers on your account...ie. it is technically possible. BEV forgot to deactivate my 5900 after I replaced it with 9242. I went on line and checked my account for something and found all 7 receivers listed. So I tried hooking it up and presto...all programming. I had to call them again to deactivate once I sold it privately.

Just call EV and tell them you sold the receiver. You will need the name of the buyer plus the receiver serial number and the smart card number (both from the info screen.) Ask them to deactivate the receiver as well. I do this after I do a hard reset of the receiver (to remove all custom settings and passwords) but before I ship it.

EV's policy is 6 active IRDs on one account. Their CSRs are so badly trained that you will probably get a different answer from some. Just ask to speak to a supervisor (to keep the CSR busy and straighten them out.) When they put you on hold just hang up and call again. Chances are you will get a CSR who knows what to do. With a little luck you may get another that is just as badly trained but lets you get away with something against policy.

I think this is part of the problem
If I were to sell one of my receivers, I would not give my name, nor would I ask for his, I don't care
If Bell doesnt want to activate it, to someone who wants to pay for their service, it is a very dumb move on their part, as they leave the current owner no choice but to sell it to someone who will use it to pirate, where no names are needed
I dont see what the big deal is
If there is no balance owing, Bell will know who the owner is by checking the serial numbers
If I have called in, and told Bell that I have sold the box at a garage sale, on the internet, where ever, I don't know why I have should have to know the buyers name
Can you tell me why ?

Not necessarily. Technically, you have to pay for the cards. But, I have managed to talk BEV into 2 free cards on various ocassions.... given that I'm paying them about $100 a month in sub fees helped a bit.

Tell new owner to tell BEV that the rec was bought at a flee mrkt and it did not have the card with it and he was unaware that it needed one. A bit of begging might go a long way as well.

I deactivated my 6000 and my 6100 earlier this week in separate phone calls, and I told the CSRs that I had not decided on buyers yet, and both of them said that since I own both of the receivers outright they did not need the purchaser info. All else went very smoothly.

You might rip off an Express Vu Customer like that but I WILL NOT.

I am disgusted you would even think about it.

I not insinuating anything but one reason would be to help the owners with a theft. One could have been axe murdered while watching Oprah and the culprit made off with the receiver. It doesn't stop the theft but it make those on the last will and testament feel better, knowing someone else is not enjoying his property.

It is normal I belive that a compagny would not give you an information if it'snot about YOUR personnal account. Other cable and satellite providers will do the same... The only way that you can avoid that is by making sure the person did call so that we put a note on the account and are able to activatethe receivers if you sale them.

If I unsderstood exactly what you are doing (going to do a Bell install, then buying receivers and install Star Choice) you are the one trying to screw the compagny up, why would we feel bad that we are just doing our job?

You say Bell have poor quality of training, but according to what your say all the times you called about that issue you got the same answer. I would therefore say that Bell training is good (at least on that point) since all agents understood what they are allowed to say and what they are not

Nothing stops you from sellling the receivers on e-bay if you want...the only problem is if client wants to use it legally and at the end there is notes on the account, then they can't activate it.

Why would I think any good of somebody that tries, with most of the time no reason to put me down all the time? Should I go praise him for stealing signal satellite of the person whom he bought the receiver from when he knows so well this is against the compagny's policy? I don't think so...

What are you guys talking about.

You call Bell. Deactivate the receiver. Tell them you have sold it. They may ask for the person they may not. I have sold a few of them and they never asked who the buyer was. I have never been called about them either.

The receiver is SOLD. GONZO. Bell should change there policies if they don't want them in the hands of pirates. ex. buy them back themselves.

If buying and selling of Bev receivers is any indication, it's unlikely anybody will be able to consummate the deal.

Now it's may be a good thing if there is some much needed house cleaning with the new owners.

Bell told me six was the limit, even though I only had three active and had sold three.

They would NOT let me activate a "seventh" receiver. So I sold it on ebay for twice what I paid for it. I suppose if I played CSR roulette for a few hours, I could have activated it.

Instead I switched to Rogers and got a free HD PVR when they had the Winback offer.

Yes the 6 receiver limit is the "official" maximum. They do allow certain customers to have more and they do forget to remove some as well, leaving more than 6 on accounts.

Even dosborne appears to have 8 receivers with 9 Tuners on his account, unless some are stacked in his closet.

I didn't ask and I don't care, that entirely between the buyer and his conscience.

But how is this transaction any different with the price of some used cell phones going for serveral hundreds of dollars when a new one is < $100??

The difference is that the higher priced ones comes with NO strings attached.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a new Bell discounted package tie you into a long term contract?

And an existing subs or new subs WITH equipment are not bound by such entanglements?

Actually he called back to complain that Bell wanted some $$ for a new N2 access card since the ROM 3 was no good and he figured as do I that If you're subbing, the card ought to be free, so your assumption was incorrect.

Thanks, it would seem they can get the deposit on the card back if they sign another several year contract.
They've been a paying sub for > 5 years now.

They don't sound like a very customer friendly organization to deal with.

Someone had posted a link/document a while ago, but who knows if it's still in place.

Chances are the deal changes depending upon what agent you get.

It be be nice if Bell.ca had sone Terms & Conditions and Policies outlined.
Getting through can be a real PITA.

Tnx fer ur help!

Hello all.I have to leave my bell sub.Because of rising costs, and my wife is currenly out of work.Cutbacks have to be made.Over $70/month is getting too much.I don't watch much tv anymore anyway.I have my tv ant and hd ota box for entertainment.I am wondering if anyone knows if I can sell and transfer ownership over to someone else. Also , are there any fees to pay to discontinue service.I have 2- 4700 model receivers.Does bell have a return policy to give me something for them if I can't sell privately?

I'm selling my 4100 receiver, and a potential buyer has asked me for the receiver number (R00...). Is this safe to disclose to him?
