She si going to get the 9242 when she signs up. The house already has a 20" dish on it with a sw44 in the basement. I am going to do the install myself, so the free installation doesn't do much for me.

For new customers a 9242 is only $399 after the rebates if bought online, so I thin that is what we are going to do.

When I sold my receivers in the past I called Bell myself, and gave them the name of the buyer. Wether or not the buyer uses the receiver for illegal purposes doesn't matter, I'am not resposible for it.

In my situation the friend of the friend could not or would not contact the original owner so I gave the receiver back. Nice paper weight he has there.

I'm not implying that anyone is stupid, just potentially misinformed. I also stated that this may not be the same Location ID that your friend is referring too.

As I stated, a simple internet search turned up a number of programs to calcluate the Location ID used by Dishnet and EV. One is a simple HTML page with javascript. I was able to enter the time and receiver number and match to the Location ID provided via my receiver.

All this is of course off topic for this thread.

You have the name of whom you shipped it to...you give us that name. If it was a fake name too bad for the buyer

The number of ACTIVE receivers on an account can not be greater than 6.

Receivers numbers will always remain on the account even if you called us and mentionned that you are giving away or sold the receivers. As soon as the person you gave or sold the receiver to calls us to activate the receiver we then remove it from your account and put it on the client's account. Transfer could only be done if we have a note on the account mentionning that. There is a 35$ transfer charge for the client who is taking over the receiver.

What could happen when you give or sell a receiver is that the person will call, confirm the info on account and reactivate your receiver on your account (altought we should normally ask the PIN for that, many CSR will do that whithout that confirmation) and they will benefit from the programming YOU are paying. If they order PPV it would then appear on YOUR bill and YOU would have to pay for it.

I have an old blue with yellow card that I kept from an 5100 that I had connected 4 years ago. Can I give Bell that smart card number to activate my receiver or send me a new card?

Would it be possible to activate a Dish Vip722 with Bell TV ?

I saw on ebay that i could pay less for the receiver and i was wondering if it would work ... ???

Yepper..........this is the only pain when you are out and about and do an impulse buy, or want to and can't............LOL

Did you get any unusual PPV charges during those 2 years?

Maybe the agent just haven't put the note on the account when you called in to activate it. Ifthe buyer didn't had you info then he didn't bother and put it in a closet

Just activated a 3100 that I had bought a while back from flea bay. Was new in box and had the previous gen smartcard. Called up Bell, got a CSR, checked the firmware, IRD and smartcard numbers and activated it. Now I have 198 and a new N3 card on the way out to me.

The "current" Bell policy appears to be that if the card in the box is one gen old (previous gen) they will provide a N3 card at no charge. If it is two or more generations old, they will sell you a N3 for $100, but they recommend you buy a new sub-$100 receiver (aka 3100/4100).

Yep, bought mine for $800 and the DN6000 c/w 8PSK for $1100.

Sold the Bev unit a short while ago for $500.
It had a ROM 3, but I think the fellow might have wanted to hack it.

Pretty fair return on investment.
I guess their is some upside to the piracy problem, as least as far as my pocket book is concerned, resale of course, not because of programming costs or not.

That old card is useless at the moment. I would call up Bell Customer Service and get the lowdown from them. Tell them you want to activate a used 6100 and have the serial number handy. I think Mpeg4 is coming next year because they need the new compression standard implemented before they can expand their HD service.....but I'm just guessing. You could also ask if they planning on allowing trade-ins when they rollout the new HD units....

As always, just my $0.02....:p

Does anybody have a link to the official document/policy on cost of cards?
I recently sold a 5100 that has not been subbed for many years with an old ROM 3.
The new owners, who already has an account says they want $69 for a new card.
Shouldn't they get that back once it's activated on an existing account?
