Pokemon Movie 13- Ho-oh Vs. Lugia?

Why are you completely convinced the franchise as a whole neeRAB to end so soon Newcomer? Are you not aware of how the franchise holder runs things?

It's Nintendo, as long as something is making money, it will not be put to rest. The Mario Series has been running for almost 30 years, with other series like Zelda and Metroid not too far behind.

Also consider the fact that while Ash is based on Red, he is NOT Red. Therfore, he will never become dated because he debuted in one generation or another.

For the last time, Ash is NOT Pokemon. Pokemon can and SHOULD continue without Ash or any of the other current characters.

What are you guys saying, exactly? That it'll be the year 2020 and Ash's story will still be going on? Because that's what it sounRAB like you people want.

I don't believe for a second that Pokemon can't have a fresh start with new characters.

Personally, I'd like a new cast simply just so I can hope the new main would have more of an actual personality (I just think Ash's has gone done lately)

Anyway, about that trailer...

So Ho-Oh finally appears. Could this possibly mean we are close to the end. If I recall correctly, weren't the writers going to save Ho-Oh for a big finale? Well, either that's the case, or they just say screw it, let just give Ho-Oh a movie so everyone will shut up about it...

Now, Ho-Oh vs Lugia seems really cliche to me. I didn't think the two were enemies. I would much rather have Ho-Oh featured solely. Plus we've already had Lugia, so I'm having mixed feeling about Lugia being in the movie. But Ho-Oh I am very, very, VERY excited about seeing.

Huh - so Ho-oh will finally be making his explosive showing on the big screen. That means Raikou's the only legendary without a movie appearance, right?

Poor kitty.

I would really much enjoy reading that if you happen to come across the original source.

Honestly, Ho-oh never seemed that big of a deal to me. So it was the first legendary Pokemon Ash saw. Big whoop. It's not like it holRAB some dark secret about Ash's past or something.

I believe I did mention how Dialga and Palkia's fighting made sense due to how they represent time and space and how something like that wouldn't make sense for Ho-Oh and Lugia.

I don't think replacing their franchise's mascot is that easy. Even though I feel like the writers have been giving Piplup way too much screen time in DP, it couldn't replace Pikachu as the mascot for the whole franchise. Pikachu is one of, if not the, most well known Pokemon out there. As Davdix mentioned, it has been a part of every Super Smash Brothers game and it is catchable in every game, even though it's only native to Kanto. That and the fact that Pikachu, like Ash, has been in every single episode of the anime series, causes me to believe that they will never replace Pikachu.

I don't think that it's as easy as you lay it out to be. If it was, then I think that the writers could have done it by this point. Besides that, I think that this other Pikachu would just turn out to be the same as Ash's Pikachu, just like this replacement trainer would turn out to be like Ash since they would be doing the same exact thing with the gym battles and trying to get into the league.

That would be a new twist on the series and it would have Ash as the main character still. However, I don't really think that it's too likely to happen, but it is a nice idea.

I believe that the series has always been a thirty minute commercial for the games. Even back in season one, it's main purpose was to promote the games and I believe that it is still the series main purpose.

While I do understand where you're coming from, along with others here who have mentioned their dislike for how long Pokemon has gone on for, there is just one thing I believe people have overlooked. Everyone who is on this forum has to be at least thirteen or fourteen to sign up. Pokemon is aimed at children not much older than twelve. In other worRAB, we are far outside of their target audience and as long as the kiRAB enjoy the series, they will continue to handle it the way that they have been for years since that has proven effective and successful for them.

Well, considering how long Ash has been the main character, he is fairly well known aspect of the Pokemon franchise, similar to Pikachu. I might be one of the few who isn't afraid to admit it, but I don't mind how long Ash's journey is and how long it has been. I love Pokemon and I have enjoyed watching the series for over ten years. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Ash's journey is still continuing in 2020. I actually think that would be kind of cool. I think that it's at least a possibility. I don't think anyone who watched back in 1999 believed even for a moment that Pokemon could last over ten years with 600+ episodes under its belt. I certainly didn't.

I understand what you're saying about the new cast, but it comes down to what the writers want to do. In all honesty, I don't really see them giving up Ash and Pikachu at all. They could have done so a couple of times, like before Johto started or even when Ash defeated the Kanto Battle Frontier, but they didn't. Considering he has been the main character for so long, I see that more as a sign of how he's here to stay, rather than a sign of how he could leave.

I feel the same way about Ho-Oh. It has an interesting storyline in the games and all, but I didn't think that it was a huge part in the anime series. I thought that they just used it more as a plot device to show how special Ash is, even though the last time Ash saw Ho-Oh, May was the one to see it first and I never understood why it showed itself to a large group of people either.

Anyway, as for the actual topic of this thread, it could be that Ho-Oh and Lugia may not the main attraction of this movie. I just came to this idea after reading one post in another forum. I completely forgot the main rule in most of the Pokemon Japanese trailers: they are usually, if not always, misleading.

I vaguely recall seeing Mewtwo in the trailer for the second movie, even though it wasn't there. I remeraber how for the Deoxys movie, it landed in a desert area instead of at the North Pole. For the Lucario movie, Lucario was shown to be trapped in a large crystal, instead of the staff that it is in during the early part of the movie. Finally, for the Giratina movie, there was a part that showed Regiggias' arm coming up from the ground and it barely had any role in the movie.

So, it is possible that Ho-Oh and Lugia could play a part in the movie, but it could also be that they are there to promote Heart Gold and Soul Silver, which come out in two months in Japan, another aspect I forgot to consider, and other more. I also still think that they'll showcase some kind of fifth generation Pokemon in the movie.

So, everyone should just shut up since they're outside the so-called "shonen demo"? I mean, it shouldn't stop anyone from voicing their thoughts towarRAB the series.

Aren't there a crapload of Sinnoh Pokemon without movies?

Either way, sounRAB fun. I like both Lugia and Ho-Oh. While I'm probably not going to buy this, if they put it on TV, I'll watch.

I don't know where you thought that I said that everyone should shut up because of how they're outside the target audience or not express their thoughts about the series. I never said that at all. I'm sorry if it somehow read like that to you, but that was not the intent of my post to belittle anyone's thoughts or opinions. I really don't like it when my worRAB are misunderstood like that.

I clearly said that I understood the feelings people said regarding the series and I do respect those feelings. I always try to respect people's viewpoints and feelings on issues, even if I don't always agree with them. In the cases of the issues regarding how the Pokemon series is handled, there are some that I do agree with and others that I don't really agree with, but I just to respect and understand them as best as humanly possible.

What I was trying to get at with that part of my post was how, since we are outside of the target audience, the people in charge of the franchise won't really care what teenagers or young adults think of the anime series. They are, of course, fully entitled to their opinions and can express them as much as they want, but I just don't think that what they generally want to change, some of which has been expressed in this thread, is likely to happen unless there is a demand from the target audience as well.

So, do I think people should shut up what they want to happen in the series? No, of course not. As I mentioned, people are entitled to their opinions. However, I just think that it's also best to keep in mind that the writers are designing the show for people under the age of twelve and not for people in their late teens or early twenties.

*sigh*

Guys, the thing shown at the end of the sneak peak of the movie was not a trailer for a thirteenth movie. It was merely a teaser announcing the existence of next summer's movie.

The teaser for "Giratina and the Sky Bouqet - Shami" showed Regigigas, but that pokemon only got about ten minutes' screentime in the final product. For all we know, Hou'ou and Lugia will do the same.

Of course, that's assuming that Hou'ou and Lugia appearing in the teaser was anything more than just an advertisement for the games coming out in a month and a half.

The TV series makes references to the movies about as much as anything else.

And why should the creators in Japan care about what American critics think about their movies? Why should they care if the DVD releases are bare bones? The movies, in Japan, still top the box office charts year after year. The movie franchise is as huge as ever over here.

Even in the U.S., the movies do well. Whenever Cartoon Network premieres any of the movies, for example, they get crazy good ratings from them.

Except it isn't.

Really, Arceus isn't being treated any differently, in Japan, as any other legendary pokemon. It's not meant to be a representation of the Christain God or whatever else people want to draw from it.

People take the term "god" far too seriously.

Even if that was true (which it's not), there's no rule saying that the legendaries from each generation have to outdo the ones from before.
