Pokemon 5th Generation: What do you hope for next?

I wish they would've shortened the gap between Snowpoint and Sunyshore. There were definitely some good episodes in between, but they still could've shortened it down. Then, they could've had a short arc in between DP and BW. Surely the writers keep in close contact with Gamefreak on their progress of the newest games.

No offense, but I hope Ash has some subplots during the grand festival to train his Pokemon. He won't have much time to train, unless they give him some fillers. Next up is the league, I want to see him train his Pokemon hard so he can beat the crap out of Paul He also has to beat Nando/Conway/Barry. Tough people he neeRAB to take down, but Paul will be the one he has to worry about the most oh and maybe Conway. I think Nando is a newbie still dealing with contests and the gyms both. So I think both Dawn and Ash will take him out, allowing him to rethink what he has to do next.

They purposely stretched Sinnoh out just so they didn't have to make a filler arc in Johto.

The writers probably still remeraber all the backlash from the original Johto arc, no way in hell would they ever have Ash step one foot on Johto soil again.

Instead, they had Lyra appear for that 5 ep mini-arc, and had Dawn get a Cyndaquil. Shame the DP Frontier Brains won't be covered in the anime, but its no big loss.

I do think Sinnoh wasn't going to be 200 eps at the start, but they decided to do that anyway because Johto is cursed in the anime, and otherwise a second Frontier Brain arc would have been redundant as well, since Ash rejected the Frontier Brain offer after he beat Brandon.

That is the longest post in the history of the planet.

Anyway, it's been nearly ten years since I watched Pokemon with any regularity, but I feel like I ought to give my two cents. I find it a little strange that people are complaining about the show's story and how it's not going anywhere. The thing is, Pokemon doesn't exist to tell an elaborate One Piece-style story. It's a television adaptation of a video game series. As long as TV Tokyo funRAB it, and Nintendo keeps making games, it will chug along like it has. The truth some of you will have to accept is that Pokemon will never be any more than what it is right now. If and when the show's producers decide to can it for good, they'll ham-fist an ending and that will be that.

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand what CyberCubed is saying. He doesn't want a remaining part of his childhood to end. That's how I felt when Toonami ended. That's how I felt when my local Blockbuster closed, as lousy as they were. However, it's part of the growing process. Once you accept that, you'll be FAR better off.

But yeah, ditch Brock, keep Dawn, and get a new girl in there. I want two Pokegirls, dang it!

"Taking these fans too seriously is usually a mistake. Although they tend to be louder than the rest of the fanbase corabined, they are usually a decided minority in almost every fandom (though they often claim to be a majority)."

I agree that she does practice her Pokemon's given moves instead of new attacks. That's nice and all, but I still think that it would have been nicer if she taught them attacks. Outside of Piplup and Arabipom, Dawn's Pokemon have received little to no development and I think trying to each them new moves would helped to make her team stand out some more. That's why I hope that the new girl does try to do something like that with her Pokemon.

I'm not sure if Nando would lose to both Ash and Dawn. I could see him winning the Grand Festival. Plus, if he got the eight badges and five ribbons in time to compete in both the League and Grand Festival, then I don't think he would be a pushover.

The Pokemon anime will be the death of us all someday.

Usually when I like a show I want it to last as long as possible. Pokemon lasted for 10 years would have been fine, but now its on its way to 20.

That's true. I forgot that Paul is fairly respectful to people who are older than him, like most of the Gym leaders. He is mostly shown as a jerk whenever he is on screen. I guess two dimensional would work better to describe him.

What backlash are you talking about? I don't really remeraber any kind of information about Johto being hated by the writers. No offense, but I've only really seen negative comments about Johto from some of your posts, along with a few other ones. I think that you're using your opinion on Johto as a fact to explain why the writers never went there in this generation.

If Johto was so cursed, then why did they have a few references to Ash's Johto journey, show case Johto Pokemon throughout Diamond and Pearl and pretty much advertised Johto itself during Lyra's first appearance? Just because they aren't going back to Johto doesn't mean that they hate and/or fear the region. I think that the writers wanted to stretch out DP just to work with Ash and Dawn's goals longer and cover the storyline from the games. It also could have been that they realized at the pace that they were going they weren't going to have time for a filler arc and just went from there. I doubt they wanted Ash to stay in Sinnoh just so that he wouldn't go to Johto. Like PC! said, it's the writing, not the location, that matters in a saga.

I honestly would have liked a return to Johto myself with another Battle Frontier challenge. It would have given Ash's Johto Pokemon some more time to shine and I think that it would have been cool to see all of the added areas/towns in Johto. I liked how they showcased new towns and events in Kanto, so it wasn't like Ash was just going through every place he went to in his first journey. Even though that would have been really fun, I'm not too terribly disappointed that it won't happen. I'm just hoping that the Sinnoh League and the Grand Festival will be enjoyable, considering the amount of time it took for them to get to that point of the saga.

Why does anyone want Brock to stay?

What has been remotely interesting about Brock since the end of Johto? He's been dead weight in both AG and DP.

- Remove Jessie / James / Meowth . They are not even considered a part of Team Rocket organization due to their incompetence. They seem to only be interesting when they are not going after Pikachu.

- I still don't buy into this "Coordinator" stuff, because it feels like it was created for "give the female viewers something to look at and give the girly female characters something to do while the boys battle"

- Brock is only useful for "Food". The constant reminder that he is studying to be a pokemon breeder... have never (if so I don't remeraber) been shown. How exactly is he learning about breeding if he is constantly on the road with two kiRAB and Team Rocket interrupting? And his "lusting after every female except the lead" is getting boring but of course this is likely more amusing to the Japanese audience which the show is intended for.
--I remeraber when Tracey showed up and was glad to finally see someone new that was actually focused on achieving a goal.

- Stop with the sob stories when it comes to "rotating pokemon for new ones due to the game release". The episodes about this event are so badly done that it is comical. Of course when it came to the first time Ash got new pokemon, it was actually sad... then you gradually caught onto that this is something that will be done with every new game release.
--so and so neeRAB to go train to be stronger and then come back (not!)
--so and so neeRAB to be free... they'll come back one day... (not!)
--so and so is better off with this person you will never see in another season.

- I wish they would stop giving Ash amnesia when it comes to him running across Pokemon he's seen back in Season 1 and 2. Yes, pokedex's can be updated... but lets try that with the main characters brain.

- Some episodes are amusing, especially with some form of continuity.

- pokemon actually evolving is good and learning new moves is good to see... minus Pikachu who will always be stunted.

From what I've read so far about the anime, and that article released by that Japanese site, I really do get the feeling this will be the end of the Ash's story. More than just the usual "Ash really neeRAB to move on" gripe, Nintendo is really pushing this as the rebirth of the series, so I get the feeling we'll get a new cast as well.

I like him as a comic relief character. In all honesty, I think that he has been in the older mentor/comic relief role since he first went into a love daze for any pretty girl. I do remeraber a few active roles he has had in DP, such as the Tag Battle arc and the Team Galactic climax, so I wouldn't really label him as dead weight. He doesn't really do that much, which is sad and prevents his character from being more interesting, but he does have some kind of role for each series.

Plus, whoever would replace Brock would be basically doing the same thing and I could still see people complain about it. I also doubt that they would add a third on-going competition since the writers are already giving Gyms and Contests equal focus and I don't see Brock as an active battler since he prefers breeding his Pokemon over battling with them.

Yah, I wouldn't mind them getting rid of Team Rocket.
Since they've been there from the begining like Ash and Pikachu, seems doughtful at this point. Brock on the other hand is possible, he was replaced before. They just need to get a better character to replace him than Tracey. Course, I wouldn't mind them switching back and fourth, between Brock and Tracey. I kind of miss Tracey, just update him with a new look and some new pokemon and we there yah go. But if they were going to replace Brock with any one, it'd probaly be a fifth Generation boy.
Which is some thing I hope they do, than we have fifth Generation boy and girl traveling with Ash. Than give Ash a fifth Generation rival too while there at it, if they don't keep Paul, who I will miss.

HUH? Back in the first series, his goal was clearly to become a master. He began the show shouting out how he will become one and he talked about it every other episode. Even the first Japanese opening used the term "Pokemon Master". He was alway gung-ho about getting badges, beating Gary, and battling in the Pokemon League. Now all he wants to do is travel around and battle; his badge-obtaining and battling in league tournaments just seems to be for the heck of it. That doesn't change the fact that he once had a goal. 'Cause a main character with no goal is a boring main character, which is what Ash is now.

It wouldn't be like replacing the girls because it would be replacing the entire main cast. It's what they do in the games and the Pokemon Special manga and it works.

That wouldn't be her fault, it would be the anime teams' for not wanting to let go of their precious Ash as the hero and not wanting anyone else to outshine him. Movie 9 was definite proof of this.

Pretty much all of May's Kanto contests were better than her Hoenn ones to me. Mainly because they had more Harley.

Nothing. Not even comic relief, since his only schtick of going "ooooh, random pretty girl is so beautiful!" got old along with his character. The only humor now comes from his Croagunk jabbing him whenever he flirts with a girl and that has NOT gotten old. You never get tired of it because it's so satisfying to watch.

Yeah, I thought it was a bit too long after I finished it.

I agree. While I find Pokemon enjoyable, it's main purpose has and always will be promoting the games. I thought that was pretty clear from the beginning. Considering how well the games are doing, I doubt that the series will end anytime soon.

I'm sorry, but that's just sounRAB completely melodramatic to me. As much as I love Pokemon, there are so many more important things in my life. I've been a fan from the start too, but I don't obsess over the fate of the show or its future. I just accept what it is and move on with my life.

While I understand where you're coming from, I don't think that they'll add in a new cast. The whole rebirth of the series thing did make me consider that idea for a moment, but I just don't see them getting rid of Ash, Pikachu and Team Rocket after using them for thirteen years. Considering how successful DP has been, I'm not sure that they would feel the need to get a whole new cast.
