*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

If I had my way with the N97 i'd slap 256MB ram and a better processor and flash it to Mobile OSX. I could use that phone for such a long time.

same here, i wont have any auto update widgets on my homescreen, look in the i have my n97 thread, he has 53mb free ram, the guy over at sf must have a dud n97.

Yeah. The house also has the highlights blown out so you can't see the paneling.

I think this a common trend in mobile phone cameras, though. Not sure if Samsung's sensors fare better with regard to dynamic range.

At this point in my life I don't have the time to "get" twitter. I don't do facebook or any of those other social "networking" things either...maybe one day when I have a little more time on my hands...just posting and reading these forums is enough..and I'll probably give that up once I'm comfortable with the N97

No, fire the guys from those promo videos of the N97 that passionately talk about the sounds the N97's slide makes like they're making love to it when they use it. The N97 felt good in my hand when I used it, but not good enough to make me climax like that.

"sigh"...i did talk to someone, actually two someones stateside. I did not call the number back from the voice mail, but from the back of the Plat card. I spoke to customer service and the rep from the fraud alert area?...Im just repeating what they told me. If i am reading you correctly BOTH attempts from Nokia where "auth" not charge attempts so I dont have to worry?....

Yeah that's what I hear. In any case the resistive touch on my 6 year old HP PDA is better than the 5800 and seems better than the N97 from the videos.

The 5800 is so stupid in its haptics that there is a consistent half-second delay between your touch and its vibrate. It feels retarded like it is thinking and trying to decide if you touched it or not.

Blame a guy who is very familiar with resistive screen tech, the quirky methods of the non-sticky screen, and in general having the exact same experience with many Palm OS and WinMobile devices. I don't have an issue with browsing (or much else on the device).

Where things fall down is where I've learned (thru no help at all from Nokia or Symbian) the shortcuts, which make a signifiant difference towards the experience because its when that is factored in that usage is better on the N95 than 5800. Again though, the browser is optimized for those with numeric keypads. If it were optimized for touch-first, we'd not have this aspect of discussion.

Mobile City does get all the latest devices, and gets 'em early. But they have been caught doing some highly questionable things. Passing off used/opened devices with call histories/usage time/pictures as brand new. Non-NAM units as NAM, stuff like that.

They do have some good prices though, especially when everybody else is charging a premium for the latest and greatest. You just have to know what to expect and what to look for when dealing with MCO.

I couldnt do that with the n96 though, if i went to crackberry.com then tried to open my garmin it would tell me i need 8mb of ram free to open garmin that was very dissapointing and looking at the ram on the n97 im getting the same feeling in my stomach.

I also was wondering about the compatibility issues of this handset. But then again, it will probably be released in the US either laaate this year or early next year once it gets the "green light" from the FCC.
