*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Nice phone, almost everything I wanted. I would buy it if it comes out tomorrow. However, since it will only be out around July/Sept/Oct for the Nam version, I'll probably buy the X1a instead. I hate waiting!!! The only thing I like about Apple is that when they announce a new product, they ship it almost right away.

Also, those specs seem very amazing, but by the time the phone comes out, I guess those wouldn't be that much impressive.

How long till it goes down to $500? I'm guessing a few months maybe? This phone looked pretty meh when it was first announced, but it's looking really good right now. Wow :goodness:

Nope. I have a delivery estimate of June 5th-17th with 1 day shipping. I was told by a rep to contact them if I didn't get a shipping notice by the 17th. Supposedly Nokia gave them those dates. Rest assured. I will post as soon as I hear! :hehehe:

Thanks for posting the link. After reading the p/review, I think I'll stop whining and start praying that Nokia will start shipping this out soon. LOL.

This makes me wanting to buy 5800 again...

No just pay the ETF and have fun. You can still make some $$$ doing that. But if you are going to use AT&T anyway just cancel the iPhone plan and pay for service for any phone you wish.

N97 will require nice and sturdy case, zagg invisible shield is a mess, screen becomes less responsive and more friction and the shield cannot be reused once it's dried. My friend actually pulled out his 5800xm's screen taking the shield off.

A nice leather case for N97, imagine N97 dropping face down with keyboard opened. Ouch!

Have you tried adding your location? IIRC, I had my work and home locations added, as well as the "current location." Just turned it on and it seemed to work. I can switch between them and it updates, also when I do refresh data.

Do you have your default Destination / connection set in Destinations and in the browser? Using wifi or 3G or both?

Nothing seemed to impress him other than the facebook app either. He also mentioned that it seemed like more time was spent optimizing widget performance and not the rest of the phone so it's actually slower than the 5800.. :(

I can confirm that statement too. The Eternity uses a much harder plastic for the touch screen that makes it easier to use and a bit more sensitive. The 5800 has that thin plastic layer than felt like it would fall apart after enough usage. I'm not particularly fond of either, but I would have preferred the harder plastic on the 5800.

Well roaming in 35 countries is a big deal, plus free landline calls is major. In any case 45 pounds is less than what I pay for a third of the minutes and I have a 24 month shackle around my ankle which is worse than 18 months. On top of that no US carrier will offer you free $700 phone. You get a measly $200-250 subsidy. We get the shaft.

As consumers, you can demand that they do both! Is it really unfeasible to think they could have strengthened their software AND design it to work on next-gen processors? They're already doing just that with Maemo 5 and OMAP3! Why should the N97 be any different? It's been in their pipeline since 2008!
