*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Yes its a known fact that your call will go to voicemail during an edge transmission. Now many people are gonna say no. It pauses the data session to allow the call. This is only true if your phone is not in an active data stream. If you load google maps traffic, the call will still come thru as long as there is an intermittent break in data download, even the tiniest break is sufficient.

Same thing browsing web pages. There are constant breaks during a web page being loaded. Try and stream something over edge to truly test this.

So the point is while widgets aren't gonna be streaming, if you have 4 of them that constantly poll the server, it definitely could be a nuisance. Its just a limitation of the edge networks, at least the ones setup here in the usa. Long live 3g for nseries!

You're right, but it's another complaint to add to the list. We're still waiting for those features to be resolved completely; having the competition pass them in the new season is just salt in the wound.

Gorgeous pictures of the black one + another Unboxing video:

AT&T for the most part is the only option for the GSM speed and frequency (1900) that is available. T-mobile 3g is out because T-Mobile uses 1700 MHz for download and 2100 MHz for upload the n97 only supports 850/900/1800/1900 MHz.

Very interresting find. Ahhh, although i can't program anything, lol, I just love the fact that the widgets are considered "open source" and anybody can create some. We are gonna see so many interresting and useful widgets in the futre. I'm already loving the System performance Gauges, very very useful, as well as the Nokia Remote Desktop, sounds fun. This is gonna make my N97 look like Windows Vista's Sidebar, lol.

Then you have all the unnecessary widgets, but funny, like the "Bluetooth Match Maker: Find a perfect match according to your specifications near you via Bluetooth!" lol. There's even a World of Warcraft widget, haha.

Having absolutly no affiliation with any kind of social networking website (yes, i do NOT have facebook or myspace), i was a little afraid of getting a phone branded as the "facebook phone", but that fear is loonngg gone now with the unlimited other possibilities available :)

nah i'd say
-capacitive
-600mhz processor
-256mb ram
-doubtful that we'd see the 8mp, even more doubtful that it'd record in HD seeing as the omnia couldn't
-screen stays the same
-keyboard probably would have minor improvements

Worthy upgrade FOR ME.

I use stereo bluetooth headphones
I've never even unwrapped the TV Out cables that came with my N95
Don't take pictures with my phone, I own a camera
N-Gage sucks anyway lol
Don't record video, don't play video, don't use the loudspeaker.

See why it's a worthy upgrade FOR ME. The way I see it, it's an N95 with a QWERTY keyboard.

The 1900 band is an issue as well..I see you're in the ATL which is probably covered with 1900..but get out on the interstate or where I am down in the FL panhandle and without the 850 band you may as well have a paperweight

It's late and I'm tired (as usual when I post on howardforums) and a little bit intoxicated but somehow I am 99% sure that doesn't matter to a country that has 1.2 billion people and is making copy phones and hacking the s**t out of everything they can get their hands on and mass manufacturing everything from keychains to computers.

Abundantly cheap labor looking for markets will be a constant reminder to us that we better solve our own problems in a high quality way or some company from China is going to do it for you.

The freescale website is open for anyone one in China to view. The form factor is not an issue as they have already copied every Nokia form factor before it came out (although the N97 copy is laughably glowing like Christmas lights, OMG that is so f'n funny).

When one of those companies sees a market they will jump on it if it is mass manufacturable and hackable.

I don't see them having any problem at all with software, drivers, etc.. anything having to do with code or BIOS when they have 2 people for every one of us.

I predict in 6 months you will have atleast 4 companies offering ram and or processor upgrades to the N97.
Do you think that they will not also buy the N97 in order to totally hack the s**t out of it?
I'm sorry but I can't complete this post cuz I'm laughing so hard at Colbert report, some guy said he would rather count the wrinkles on his dogs balls than do jury duty! LOL and Steven totally ran with it. ahhh ha ha ha.

They've promised big things before, and never followed suit.

I hate to keep bringing it up, but it's the best example: A Nokia dev said, on his official S60 blog, that they had a browser update ready to go for the first generation S60 browser devices (S60V3), all they needed was marketing's approval to get it released.

Marketing never approved it. Why should they? If they update the browser and other components of an older handset, why would anyone bother to buy a new one?

So, no... Nokia gets no benefit of any doubt. It's long past time for Nokia to just shut up and put up, in that order.

The no tax of online buying is nice. Where I live there are no decent places to buy wireless devices. Best Buy is pretty much it and their selection is crap and they are so over priced it's laughable. About the only thing good about them is their trial period. Ebay is where I get the majority of my phones. Never had a bad one yet from ebay. Gotta "hate the wait" tho.
