the space bar on the right honestly makes sense since your thumb will rest there naturally rather than in the middle. though i dont know how the e90 is setup and if its in the middle then i wonder how people liked it. and besides, if placed in the middle it would break the continuity of the bottom row of letter keys ZXCVBNM, which would make it super hard to get used to since everyone memorized the current keyboard layout. and adding another row of bottom keys just for space bar didnt have enough room.
 
Indeed, what a first.

I have a 5800 so I'm actually not quite sure why I'm getting this. The upgrades are marginal to some extent... But I'm willing to take what I can get. I've read accounts that the phone is "only" as fast or slower than the 5800, but I fail to have the capacity to wrap my head around that. If it's the same OS, has more RAM, and a slightly higher clocked processor, how could it possibly be slower?

Well said. That's exactly why I am staying with my E71.

Getting an expensive phone and then waiting for updates to have it meet my usage standard isn't plausible for me right now.
 
And where exactly did all those specs get the TouchHD?

You can trump specs all you want but that phone proved that people still won't use a phone bigger than their head no matter what nerd gear you cram inside.
 
if you have used E90, and expect somehting similar or at least close to it, you will be dissapointed with the keys of this one, but, like i said take it for a spin, because what works for you may not work for me, ya know... dont take my word for it, just take it for a spin, that is all i am saying...
 
Hey, I can argue any which way for all these devices. I've been on both sides of Apple and Nokia's fences before and I'm familiar with the all of it.

I would recommend the next-gen iPhone over the N97 for people who have never used S60 or an iPhone, and for the record, I haven't recommended either of the two previous iPhones before (even over the 5800).

The difference is that the iPhone will pop out at you and surprise you when you use it, which new users find very rewarding. S60 has its own learning curve that requires some patience to reap the real benefits. With the mistakes made in the N97 compared to Nokia's history with their devices and what the competition is putting out, a $200 next-gen iPhone will probably hold significantly more value than an already-dated N97 priced at $700, even with the more expensive data plan.

Again, kudos to those who got it for $5-.
 
I can't stress this enough, I'm not trying to stop anyone from buying the N97. There's nothing wrong with owning it and asking for more the next time around. Nokia's not going to take it away from you if you complain about it. The argument is COMPLETELY relevant since all of you would want your device of choice to be faster than it is, if possible. (Or am I wrong about that too?)



Aside from the useless apps, take a look at Steve Litchfield's most recent post on allaboutsymbian.com on iPhone gaming. We've all been accustomed to not gaming on Nokia phones because it still isn't that great of an experience. But wouldn't you start if the experience was that much greater and distribution of games was just as easy?
 
I think Nokia not allowing you to cancel your pre-order is insain. Obviously, they are trying to protect the purchase of $699, so, when it shows up, you'll want it so bad it'll be impossible for you to reject it.. That said, if you have the means, pre-order your other one, and reject it as Nokia states. At the end of the day, it's costing Nokia to ship the phone and have it rejected.

If you really want to, vote with your wallet. Reject it, buy a competitive product, and fax them the receipt. Explain how you were going to buy the Nokia N97 for a better price, but, because of this policy, decided not to chose Nokia at all!

Why are you surprised? From experience, you've seen that S60v5 eats more RAM than v3 as it is from using your 5800XM. They used the same amount of RAM as the 5800XM, added an always-on WRT widget home screen that can't be disabled, and you're surprised that it doesn't have MORE free RAM available than the 5800XM?

As for the rest of you, some of the excuses you're making about the lack of RAM is just like the iPhone craziness. When people found out it doesn't send MMS, they said they would just email pictures (which also doesn't work correctly, BTW). When people found it it doesn't record video, they said they had a separate camcorder for that. And now you find out the N97 can't keep too many apps open and your solutions is to just not use the device like you want to?!

What makes it even worse is that the next iPhone has 256mb of RAM and will probably multitask better than the N97! :doh:
 
Thank you for the pic. Although it does not look like it is illuminated from that pic. I couldn't find any in Google either. Google was not very friendly to me I guess.

I'll check some videos.
