*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

LOL! OK that is true I don't really know the main cause of the lag and with all this chatter about the CPU, I'm pretty sure Nokia is going to put out a N97 8MP with a faster CPU and 8 MegaPixel camera

Oh NOES!!!!

bulk and width being translated to the travel of your thumb/fingers when pressign the keys, right?

in any case, if a communicator is what you really want, the N97 will not replace E90, it is simply not designed to do that...

there is a rumor that nokia is testing a capacitive screen and since the communicator is due to be replaced soon, well, what would be a better nokia device to have a capacitive screen than the communicator...

LOL, I hated my N95-3.:( I got one of the first units from Amazon for ~$500 when it was released and it was buggy and useless for me. GPS was shoddy and slow, themes didn't fully integrate properly (dialing box was always an ugly white; restores didn't fix this) and trying to hack it was a PITA. Web access was pretty slow as well. Camera was sweet, though.. but I've graduated since in that respect (no, not in the iPhone :p). And it did last me over a year.

Then I loved my N85..

Is anyone else interested in the n97 just to have that larger longer battery life and doesn't care about having facebook widgets on the homescreen constantly connecting to the web? I have no interest in being constantly updated killing my battery.

I'm very skeptical of this phone lasting the whole day with even 1 widget using data constantly.

A 5800 can be killed pretty quickly and it has very similar hardware to n97 with ram, cpu, OS and screen size/res etc.

I just want that nicer camera and extra battery juice and could care less about widgets really. I've got no problem using the web browser manually checking websites and weather etc. Am i missing the point of this phone?

Next year? Judging by their announcements up to now, probably amazing new breakthroughs in mobile telephony like removable batteries and LED flashes :D

gonna go caseless in the pocket with a screen protector. i used to do everything to protect it from scratches but i dont care anymore how it looks as long as the phone works.

Really all those who made the change from S60 and are happy with the OSX, Android or WM this isn't the phone that will make a difference imo.

One of the big changes for Nokia will be shifting Maemo 5 to high end phones and that's the thing i'm most excited since the first leaked pics of N95 and iphone announcement. For Symbian the Symbian^2 might make a difference, but the one to wait is Symbian^4 with full integration to Qt and that's long away.

While that is sort of what I was looking for, it seems that apparently nobody with an s60 device has either of those apps available otherwise they would have chimed in to say "yes, I have one or both on my Exx, Nxx series now".

Sooo based on the fact that most of the applications I use on a daily basis arent available for s60 devices(viigo, pandora, iheartradio etc.) Im trying really hard to figure out what the n97 can ACTUALLY do better than my bold?

Right, it's usually one spot lower than the semi colon, but that's where the spacebar is. lol at all the people finally spotting it. I said that a few pages ago after playing with it in the SDK

There will be no more "Firmware updates" from N97 on forward. There will be just a whole s**t load of hacks and the next Symbian Foundation OS right?

I mean we are entering a whole new ball game now aren't we? Nokia has kind of admitted defeat and is handing over the whole OS that they weren't really properly servicing and updating to the Symbian Foundation which is getting an overwhelming amount of suggestions and has got all the other big players there even the Japs input.

The first Symbian OS will be very very different than what we are used to IMO if only from the Japs input.

I think this N97 is the device of choice if you wish to get in on the beginning of the whole Symbian hack-a-thon. A lot of these things we are complaining about are going to get a hack solution especially with the Chinese guys there with the free source code.
I mean those are the bottom feeders and they'll be sticking any obvious hack solution to common complaints on their copy phones and then we will all see it and be trading their hack back and forth or saying it is crap or whatever.

I can already imagine some Chinese hacker making extra widgets screens for left, right, up, down and double tap for "hiding screen."

I want 8 to 14 gb's for music and all of it's album art and Lyrics = N97.

I want about 5 gb's for an ongoing add and delete database of Foreign language videos so I can learn Korean, Chinese and Japanese = N97

I want about 10 gigs of space for ongoing good quality add and delete videos of current box office movies plus i watch a lot of Korean English subbed movies = N97

I will not watch foreign language films or any box office movie off of those youtube apps from Google or youtube cuz not only do they completely degrade the quality of the film they also ruin subtitles making them unreadable.
I would rather download a movie from a movie sharing website taken from 66stage.com as a divx file and then replay it on my N97 via the Divx mobile player and show it off to a friend.

Sometimes I will be talking to someone and they will ask me if i have smallville episode X or Fringe episode X or Legend of the seeker episode X or whatever and if I have the N97 I can just pull up a database on the phone of multiple eps (any format) or even transfer divx eps right from my computer to complete any missing eps.

It will be very nice to have the large storage space = N97.

I will totally enjoy watching movies on my tilted screen of the N97 by just laying it on the table and not having to hold it in my hand or attach it to a gorillapod.

Are you even allowed to buy an iPhone at full price on/near release day? I think you have to open a new line, or be "upgrade eligible" to get one on initially.

Can you elaborate? It was my understanding that the E71, 5800XM and N97 all used the Freescale processor. The 5800 and E71 at 368MHz and the N97 at 434MHz. What are we missing? Or is the E55 a different processor?

Nobody knows how loud the speakers are but i doubt they will be louder than the n95 speakers. Those are still the king of kings when it comes to loud speakers.

As far as I know, there's a breathing light ring around the camera cover that acts as notification light. How useful that is...well, decide for yourself.
