*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

3 months? You gotta be kidding me :wow:

I assure you this phone will never go till 300$, at some point the price halts or decrease very gradually.N95 8gb is still 350$ after 2 years. Heck N85 is still 399$ at Nokiausa.com after so many months

It is also worth noting (when I go back and look at it) that in the All About Symbian review, Rafe considered the N86 better than the N82 in almost all areas: better at low light photography without needing a flash; better ability to capture moving objects in low light conditions (probably due to the variable aperature settings); better color accuracy with the LED flash (although less overall illumination than the Xenon); better at landscape photography due to the 28mm lens; better ability to reproduce detail than the N82, in almost all circumstances, despite the problems with the processing algorithm; better color accuracy in general; less tendency to overexpose photographs.

It is particularly worth repeating that in almost all circumstances, the All About Symbian article found that the N86 reproduces detail better than the N82, despite the problems with the processing algorithm that the GSMAreana review notes. Also, as far as detail goes, the GSMArena review finds the N86 lags behind the Samsung i8510 INNOV8. It makes no comparisons to the N82.

So despite the software issues in the N86, it's a pretty big stretch to conclude that the N82 is better than the N86 (except in conditions where one would find the Xenon flash beneficial). All About Symbian found the N86 to be better than the N82. GSMArena does not compare the N86 to the N82. This hardly justifies the "long live the N82" conclusion.

Just wondering why the online sample shots look stunning compared to my N86, were they using some sorta special version of N86? I'm kinda disappointed with N86, wobbly slider, very heavy, camera key insanely hard to press, FM transmitter weaker then N85. My N97 takes better shots then N86

I'm not quite sure that firwmare updates will ''Significantly'' increase image quality.I've seen cheaper cameras with wide angle lens suffer from same issues.

Looks like they found an extra button from the N97 and just stuck it on the N85, viola, new phone!
This some ******** man, been waiting for a worthy successor to my N82 from Nokia, looks like it's gonna be Samsung or SE.

Boy people have strong feelings about kepad tones. :) I'm a pretty picky person about people doing obnoxious noisy things with cell phones, computers, booming car stereos, etc., but keypad tones have never registered on my radar. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Obviously it's completely subjective how big of an issue keypad tones not working is. For me, it's really annoying to not have them work. And it should work, so clearly it's a bug. Apparently in v20. I'm still wondering if anyone has v20 and has keypad tones working.

On the GPS issue. If I don't have a data plan, do A-GPS, Network-based GPS, and changing the server to supl.google.com make any difference?

woah....

you actually like the "gallery" button....??

this is the bane of humanity....
sometimes I just pick up the phone and it tries to open my picture gallery...

Someone in the Nokia forums is reporting that the internet radio crash problem has been fixed:

Nice that putting in an ad for Ovi is what screwed it up and in order for the application to be "fixed" the ad had to work properly. Um how about get rid of the ad? Are other people experiencing this?

My only question is, why did Nokia not put xenon on the n86. With phones like the SE idou using both xenon and led, you get the best of both worlds. I no longer accept the answer of size limitations when the idou can fit both flashes into that housing.

As with most Nokia models, this phone could have been much closer to the perfect phone with a xenon/led combo.

Tkao give the n97 a go, you should u have 14 days with the nyc store absolutlely nothing to lose and u can say u tried it.
I would wait till the newfirmware releases with full kinetic scrolling though. :buddies:

I realy hope they arent touch sensetive, i prefer to have tactile feedback, and not touch buttons by mistake. I would also take N86 over N97 ANY day, im actualy looking to replace my N81 with N86 :) ,it seems like the perfect device for my needs, and best part is it DOES NOT have a touchscreen.

With the *#7790# I consider that a soft reset which just put your setting back to default.

With *#7370# Hard Reset.. Its like reformatting your computer.. It resets it to the 1st time you used your device.
