N82 was released as a premium imaging device, and in this area, it excelled. I'm not talking about the browser or the gallery, as this device wasn't supposed to be a "Gallery Flagship" phone. N86 is positioned as an imaging device; the images look downright worse in many conditions when compared to the N82, so that is a fail.

A new S60 user isn't concerned about what a phone can "potentially" do; this device, while "good enough," is still "eh" to those who were expecting superior image quality given the improved HW.

I guess we have to wait until December when this phone is supposed to "work." Next January if you have a NAM-

Conversations doesn't appear in my Software Update application...how did you manage to get it to appear?
 
I've noticed an annoying bug in v21 (not sure if it's new or I just didn't encounter it in earlier versions)

I have a bunch of apps and games sorted into various folders to make them easier to find. However, at random (apparently after data connecting to the PC, but only sometimes) the phone "forgets" where I sorted the apps and dumps almost all of them back into the main Applications folder.

It's very frustrating, and has happened to me twice now. Sorting the programs isn't exactly easy, and I'm not going to do it again if they're just going to revert back...but not having it sorted makes it hard to find anything when you have to scroll past several dozen in one folder :(

Has anyone else had this problem?
 
All I was saying is that it's not unusual for a new device to have bugs. Treating the N82 like it's somehow special (people here seem to worship it) and the N86 is just crap is silly. I think we agree that we will just have to wait and see whether the N86 image problems get fixed in firmware or not. I just don't see the point in going on and on, in the meantime, about how Nokia blew it on the N86 and taking this as yet another opportunity to heap worship on the N82. So I just wanted to point out the N82 wasn't perfect either.

And it's worth noting that the person I quote above had a problem with the N82 camera software not working at all, without restarting the phone. That doesn't seem so great for a "premium imaging device," as you describe the N82.

Nothing's perfect. New devices have bugs. The N82 has been turned into this absurd myth of perfection and greatness (after the fact, by forgetting it had bugs). We will have to wait and see with the N86 whether it gets it together or not. What's interesting about the N86 is that is has potential, not that it's not there yet.
 
The amount of conspiracy theories here about Nokia "pulling the strings" behind review sites is kind of amusing

Perhaps some of the writers have a personal bias for Nokia phones... so what? None of the reviews I've read on any site (for the n86 at least) have made any attempt to omit serious flaws/issues with the phone, and seem pretty consistent in what they list as pros and cons.

The only potentially controversial area would be the camera's photo quality, and if you distrust with the review's assessment, the photos are right there in the review- judge for yourself! :p

Am I missing some huge sinister cover-up, or what?
 
Can anybody teach me how to take photos with this phone? I got the phone today and apparently holding down the camera button isn't enough. :( Any special settings for the camera function? I read the manual and they simply say hold down the camera button.
 
bear in mind that the e72 doesn't have a zeiss lens, so the photos could end up looking like crap. Never trust nokia marketing photo samples as they are post processed and touched up. Wait for real world shots to start showing up. I know not having a decent lens makes a real big difference in the ways photos come out.
 
Use the timer function, it will focus and shoot, so you won't have to press the button. I have been using this method and can definitely see the difference. Almost all of my pictures are nice and clear (not blurry). I read this earlier in this forum, but I do not remember who posted it.
 
Interesting that in addition to Contacts on Ovi status, the N86 also has email status on the active standby screen.

I don't think you get candybars once you go higher than N8x in model number. The N81 and N82 were anomalies :lol:

In all seriousness, I think Nokia (and a lot of people, myself included) has the impression that a high end phone can't be a traditional candybar form factor. By traditional I mean, screen and keypad all on the face of the phone with no touchscreen or fancy sliders or hidden QWERTY keyboards lol
 
Nokia knows a lot people like white coloured phones. It would be a real shame if they decide not to release a NAM version of it. The white does look sharp. But either way, I'm still going to get the N86 NAM as well. The dual slider form factor is truly amazing. I'm not too crazy about phones that have the slide out keyboard. I find it a hassle to keep having to slide the keyboard out to respond to a long email or sms. So I plan on getting the E72 NAM as well. ;)

For anyone still wondering about the n86 being the replacement for the N82, just look at the phone specs on GSM arena or anywhere else and compare the N95 8g, the N86, the n96. These phones are so close to each other is specs its amazing. Nokia has changed them only by processor, micro sd slots, screens. They all share the same double slider form factor.
The one thing missing from the Nokia lineup is the candybar form factor. I believe if the space was available, they would have made an n95 with a xenon flash. This is the only reason that the N86 doesnt have it. The form factor would not allow for the space to put the capacitor in.
I think that there will be another candy bar, xenon phone. The question is, will they include 3G.
 
I like to use a lot of alarms. I don?t like how when an alarm is deactivated, I can?t see the name of it. It only shows the time. Alarms can only be set within 24 hours, daily, workdays, and weekly. What if I want to use the alarm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday? Anyone know an alternative application or something for this? Having to activate and deactivate alarms everyday should not be needed.
