*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

I've had the same assortment of 'N' series phones and agree 100% with gordonshowers.

The form factor, size to weight ratio are perfect for everyday use. The lower edge of the keypad does show slight surface 'scratches' but isn't visible when looking straight down at the keys. Same with the lens cover slider, only light scratch OUTSIDE of the imaging area, so no effect on photos.

Had my '86 since mid July.
 
i am having trouble with some apps that uses 3g ... for exampe, whenever i load the youtube app, and choose a vid, it goes to the real player screen and says "connecting" for a very long time.. and then after it will then go back to the youtube page. However, when I do the same on wifi, the video loads almost instantly on realplayer.. Also, I can't seem to use the internet radio feature using 3G. Everytime I try, it will then tell me "can't find station" or something like that.. But when i use the radio using wifi, it works fine.. what is wrong? is there a setting taht i should change for this?
 
I received the phone on the 22nd. As of yesterday, the camera doesn't work. I see nothing but a blank black screen. Someone else experienced the same problem here: http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&thread.id=165978 Sometimes when I try to take a picture with the secondary camera when the screen is black, it gives me an error saying "Unexpected error occurred. Restart phone". Every once in a while it'll work. It's pissing me off because this is a camera phone. What happens is when I open the external shutter, the internal shutter will open. The software stays frozen, then the internal shutter closes then I can maneuver around the camera software but it seems buggy. I'm going to do a hard reset tonight when I'm off school. If that doesn't work, I'm sending it back.

Wi-Fi, email, FM radio, FM transmitter, Internet radio, Gizmo5 VoIP, Google Maps, Gmail, and everything else works.

Also where is everyone's N86 made? Mine says China. I was expecting Finland. I bought it from Amazon.

I'm willing to bet those two other customers had phones made in China. China always makes garbage.
 
Of course I will always keep my eyes open to the next phone that Nokia releases. I looked at the n900 a little, but the lack of US 850 band and the size may be disappointing. Hopefully a Nokia has some other tricks up their sleeve next year.
 
I'm pretty disapointed with this poor effort from Nokia. To begin with I think the design looks ugly. The N85 looks classy because of it's simplicity. The N86 in my opinion looks like an uglier version of the N85 and will turn heads for the wrong reason. Other than that it's just a remanufactured N95/N85 with 3 more megapixels and a compass. I'm considering this basically a 3rd generation N95 and it is beyond me why Nokia would add 3 megapixels and package all that technology into an uglier form than they devlivered it 3 years ago. Nokia I know the economy is bad but that doesn't mean you have to be pathetic.
 
That's not a bad idea. I haven't been especially satisfied with my stills so far, and was wondering how some people were getting comparatively crystal-clear shots...I'll have to give it a try.
 
I've had the phone only for two days, what will happen to slider and keys after a month? :confused:

Glad you noticed the white sky because I was not completely satisfied with the camera, I will use it more then I'll know, perhaps on a sunny day in California. On the positive I absolutely love the audio quality via earphones, it's louder then N97 and FM transmitter is also better.
 
The focus is a nine point auto focus, before there was a square in the middle that showed if the auto focus was locked in general, now the square is over the point that the camera is focusing on. The new method is more informative and useful. I have read that people seem to think the autofocus is not working as well with v20 as v11, I don't know. I am only really bothered by the macro focus, which is much improved in V20, though not perfect. Now with that photo, you have poor lighting, which I think is causing the red tint. The whole photo is out of focus in general, because the camera did not find something to focus on correctly. Auto focus is great but you still need to help it along, help the camera find something to focus on.
 
Because the quality of music over an FM transmitter is far worse than a wired connection. Of course it's easier to set up but I cannot stand listening to distorted music.

Also the N86 has 8GB internal memory which is why the phone doesn't come with a microSD.
 
yeah... but n86 only supports 16gb says the nokia website.


Another question, how long does it take to charge your phone?

my n86 takes 4hrs. is that normal?

I have done about ten hard resets.

When I do the reset it says it's formatting the memory when the phone starts back up. Is that what you mean by formatting the mass memory?

I called Nokia today and they said the first time you use the GPS it can take 30 to 45 minutes to lock, but then should be faster after that. Even if I travel somehwhere and am in a totally different location.

They also said it was the first they'd heard of the keypad tones not working on the numeric keypad and I'd have to send the phone in for servicing to fix that.

I've had the phone less than a week, so I'm trying to decide if it's better to send it in to Nokia for servicing or send it in for an exchange at Adorama where I got it.
 
I've noticed that, too. He seems to have "blonde moments" here and there.



BG probably has a tat of Ralph De La Vega on his buttcheek right next to the Steve Jobs one.

Anyway, how likely is it Nokia will keep with the 375 Euro(~500 USD) price on this phone once it's released?
