True, but its not like any of the new non touch screen phones are sporting huge screens. But it appears that the side qwerty of the n97 and the e75 are built much better than the traditional vertical slides of the N95, N96, N85's.

Time will tell.
 
My backup took exactly 3 minutes as I timed it.

It did everything in seconds then got to the Phone model-specific part that took the remaining time. That included everything except the memory card. There's no point in me making a backup of the memory card as I have a copy of everything on my disk drive. Only data files go on my memory card like music, non-captured images, video, and documents. Apps, tones, themes and other configurable files I have set to the internal mass memory.

When I did a format yesterday, the 10 music files that came with the phone disappeared. I just realized there's a *#7780# command for restoring factory settings. How does this compare to the *#7370# hard reset command?
 
Ehh people have had success in other devices by replacing the flash memory chip, but that's not something I can answer.

If you are able to replace the flash, there are single 32gb ones out now, or you could save yourself a lot of time effort and money and get a 32gb microsd whenever they come out.
 
My guess is that a new one from Amazon will be either V11 or V20.
If you get one at V11, you may want to wait for V21 to upgrade. Read back a few pages on this thread to understand why.
We are not swapping firmwares like SE, but there is progress.

I have, and the white doesn't look or feel cheap at all, it is head-turner.
While the black could get confused with a Go Phone from AT&T.
IMO of course.
 
Let's not forget that the video zoom is a million times better than on the n95 (and probably the n97) , and something I will def use when I order 1 after the price settles a little

This brings back bad memories of the N95 8gb....

It was one of the things they did right with the N85 (actually I used the "Now playing" screen saver, which defaulted to clock/calendar if nothing was playing) -- if it is now again in landscape, this would be one of those freakingly typical-for-Nokia annoying things that ruin an otherwise excellent product!

Hold down the hash (#) key while marking/unmark. Also the hash key gives you Copy/Paste.

I know - this was also for me one of the things I knew would be a "downgrade" going from the N85 to the N86... :(

This is unexpected! Does it mean that you can keep the LED turned on while recording video?

Ostensibly, this also means that something like a flashlight application should be possible?

Do you have any issues with the Music Player resetting (ie. losing its place) after plugging into a computer in "PC suite" mode?

This, for me, was the downside of USB charging with the N85.

Could this replace the Multimedia key to some degree?
 
why would they introduce the N82 w/ xenon, and then not use it on any other phone out there? did the N82 not sell well? i know the capacitor for a xenon will make the phone thicker, i guess a slider (a thin one anyway) might be out of the question if you're going to do xenon, but why do you need a slider? i don't think it's out of the question to put a 2.6" OLED on a candy bar, not going to make it too fat.
i've had 2 nokias in the past with moving parts (N90, N80) and hated both. the N90 made me swear off all flips forever, and N80 made me swear off all sliders forever.

BTW..the sample pics are nothing amazing IMO, despite the 3rd Generation Dual LED flash.

The whole Mega-Pixel brainwash is getting out of hand.

Unless you do some serious cropping to your pics, anything over 5MP is a waste.

Anyway, I wonder how they know what to look for on the FCC site? I mean, how do they find out the FCC ID numbers?

At any rate, this is a good sign of the N86 possibly shipping soon although I have yet to see a pre-order ad on the Nokia site so I don't know.

I think it's just mind-boggling how small the antennas for this phone are. Look at the GPS and WLAN antennas. Each of them are not much bigger than the asterisk on my keyboard!
 
No one is arguing that the Xenon isn't good and useful. People have acknowledged that over and over again. People are just saying it's not the only question, when evaluating the quality of a phone camera, and improving other elements might, in the long run, be more important.

Your position though seems to be that Xenon is the only thing that matters. A phone without Xenon can't be good, period. The N86 sucks a priori, because it doesn't have Xenon, damn the sensor, damn the lens. You insist you want Xenon. You seem to have ignored without any interest whatsover the article I just posted that shows an LED system which seems to be just as good as Xenon. I assume you're happy with Xenon and 1/2 megapixel camera, with no low light sensitivity, and no auto-focus. It just doesn't seem like a very sensible position to be wedded to Xenon above and before all other factors.

And frankly, I really doubt that you (or I) are the consumers that Nokia is worried about and who drive these decisions. I think the average consumer of the N86 probably can live with or without the Xenon. A whole host of other factors (UI, screen size and OLED, megapixels, image quality in the daylight--hey remember daylight!--Ovi, thinness, speakers, etc.), which reflect the overall package the N86 represents, will determine their decisions.
