You just added to my point. You have stated "3G is almost necessary to use some of the media streaming applications" What you are say is that you can use those applications over edge, but the performance and overall user experience will be sub par
 
i have had my n85 since jan and its been solid as a rock , seems like they improved the build in terms of the glue issue on front panel.
to me its a better phone over all than the n79 in many respects, its biggest knock was build quality which i dont think is an issue. :buddies:
 
it drives me nuts that the screen size of these phones could easily be increased. just look at the n86 photo, there is plenty of room around the edges of the case and at the bottom where a 2.8 inch screen could easily ahve fit in there. i want to see these screens go right to the edge of the phone case.
 
Anyone had any luck getting Conversation to work with v20?

I installed it per the instructions at Beta Labs (http://betalabs.nokia.com/betas/view/conversation) but whenever I try to open the Conversation tab in Contacts, I get a "Contacts: Feature not supported" error message and it fails to open.

A google search tells me I'm not the only one with this problem, but I can't seem to find any solutions. Is Conversation just broken in v20?
 
That is probably the lamest review I have heard.

Like you didn't know the screen was 2.6, charge port was on the top, no pencil key, and button size before you bought the phone.

I'll go buy a ford mustang and cry in the ford forum about how much gas it takes and how hard it is to drive in the snow. And because of that, the ford mustang sucks.

The n86 is more advanced than the n95 in everything. Screen, camera, flash, video, 8GB + micro sd slot, usb charging, email/messaging/mfe client (HUGE) and feature pack 2. The only thing is it's lacking a graphics chip, but there is really no use for one.

Niz, have you ever compared any of your n82 pictures to your n86? The n86 is definitely a better camera. Of course it isn't going to be like looking at a vga cell phone picture against a dslr. But definitely a better camera. There are a few n82 vs n86 around the internet that shows. And they are when n86 has v11 and n82 has final firmware. V20 made the n86 better, and there are still more updates to come.
 
Odd problem I am having, wondering if any of you experience it. When i am on a 3G call and the phone connects the 3g data for e-mail my call drops. Is this AT&T or Nokia? anybody have this problem?
 
i did the mod on my n97 and all it does is reduce the size to a 3mp size thats why no compression, i almost sent my n97 back because i had no 5mp setting thought something was wrong hahaha. :buddies:
 
It only works as the pencil key sometimes. For example, in the gallery, if I hold down the # and select, it marks the pictures, but I can't mark multiple pictures that way without going through the menu and selecting 'Mark multiple'. Small thing, but it's annoying.



That's what I thought too! But it's not the multimedia key; it's the menu button. The N86 has no multimedia key. :(

Yes, you have the option to turn on the dual LEDs while taking videos. I'll try and record one in low light conditions with the flash on and post it here for you all to see. My subjects keep wincing and dodging the flash, though. LOL.

I would assume a flashlight app would definitely work on the N86, and well!



I'm not sure I follow. Losing its place in what? In playlists? If so, I haven't had that problem.



If you only use the multimedia key as a quick way to access media, sure. But not if you use the multimedia key to get a list of 5 favorite contacts, like I did on the N82.
 
how do i setup the internet for the N86? when i go to the ovi store. it connects to optimum wifi but i dont want it to connect to that. i need to choose where to connect. are you able to use your home wifi to connect to the ovi store?


Does the N86 have free maps?
 
No I think it's a nice phone. The best N-series since the N95. However I do I have eyes to see. I saw those sample pictures just as anyone with eyes can see.

So no matter how many awards they pay for or how much hype they make about variable aperture (frankly useless with such a small lens and sensor) or whatever tech they've brought to it in imaging the results stand on their own.

They have certainly tweaked the camera to perform better in low light but at what cost? See the pics and it is clear what they are doing to achieve that "performance". Again there is no free lunch in photography.

All the stuff they brag about in features would makes less difference than if they simply increased the sensor size or implemented it on a 5MP sensor. The results clearly show that.

I think the phone is very nice and I would get it over an N97 any day of the week, but I wouldn't expect better camera performance over the N95 (which isn't bad to be honest).

At $400 which is easily what it will settle to in 30 days (I mean it does have an old-fashioned 320x240 screen after all) it seems like a great value.

If they truly made the response time better on this, then it will be a major improvement IMHO. With phone cameras there's only so much you can do for image quality, but having a fast response is actually more important in such a camera IMHO. It was the sole reason I went from my 2MP Canon to a 4MP Canon P&S. The 2MP took excellent shots (frankly better than the N95) but it was too slow to really use the new Canon basically fixed that problem and it could have 2MP just the same and it wouldn't have mattered to me.

Let's see, I would buy this over the N97. Maybe next year they will refresh it with a decent screen that is fitting for a late 00s phone as opposed to a mid 00s phone.
 
I think Europeans in general like small screen and generally small phones.....I was in the Sony store the other day and could not believe how small the X1 was. It's the smallest QWERTY Winmo PPC I've seen.

Similarly, the E75, E71, E55 all are small comparatively speaking to other qwerty smartphones. Sony Ericsson is natorious for small phones.

Bottom line...yes it would be nice if they made more phones with 2.8in screens, but I think their main customers tend to like small phones.
 
These comparisons have gone to insanity. All people want are to be able to take a picture while drunk at the bar. They dont care about dslr. Led flash sucks in a bar, while xenon makes the people visible and not blurry. End of story. No amount of better quality lens is going to change this. Its why a nikon coolpix has xenon and not led flash.
