*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

oh no, is it true that the 2 softkeys are actually touch responsive? rather than traditional hard press buttons? that really sucks if true. always gotta be something, that ONE thing that nokia does to avoid having that perfect device.

Liking this phone more n more...

from that video it looks similar in materials to my old 6260...
that thing was a tank...
lil bit of higher quality pieces n metal mixed in...

it's good to know that this is possible, especially because I do look forward to using the media keys for gaming. I wonder if something a little more adhesive or permanent could be used to the same effect- electrical tape, maybe? At least it would be black, and you'd probably need fewer layers.

I'm not really interested in what Nokia should have done. I'm interested in what they've actually done and what they might do in the future. Right now the N86 has a software problem with the camera. That's better than having a hardware problem. And it's still a promising camera. There's good reason to believe the software problem could get corrected with a firmware update. I'll wait and see. Lots of perfectly good products have problems when they first come out. Earlier adopters always pay a penalty for this. I prefer to wait until the bugs get worked out (and be sure that they do).

By the way, looking back at the official N82 thread, I see plenty of people griping about it when it first came out. Problems with the browser, feeling like it's cheaply made, a lot of people finding the D-pad to be less than stellar, poor audio quality in the speakers, underperformance from the battery, people describing the screen as dull and lacking brightness. And that's just looking through a couple pages of the thread. Here's one person's experience, from December 2007:Long live the N82 indeed.

I asked the manager in the Nokia Store about the white N86 and she said they're not getting it, ever.
So I walked two blocks to RCSExperience and played with the Euro version which is selling for $799. I seriously doubt they have sold one yet.

What the Symbian Guru says, in is article, as THETRUTH#34 already partly quoted a couples posts up, is that he's going with the N97 because he thinks version 2.0 of 5th edition is an improvement and it's where Nokia is shifting all of its application development to, for the time being. As well as apparently ceasing to support Symbian 3rd edition with new applications.See: http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2009/09/the-nokia-n86-8mp-is-the-real-nseries-flagship.html

I would be willing to bet that the N86 will be on display in the Nokia Store starting next week.
So I'll be dropping by daily.
Only when I hold in my hand will I know if it is my next phone or not.
