*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

I pre-ordered last week with Amazon. My estimated arrival date is Sept 24. I ordered with standard shipping whichever was cheapest. It hasn't actually been shipped yet as of now. Status is "Shipping Soon".

How long does it take you to get through customer support? That 30 minute hold that I experienced makes me want to never order from them again. I'll choose another retailer that sells the phone.

Where is the antenna placement on the n86?
It's one of the few things nokia really screwed up on the e71.
If you are in an area of low signal, and you are holding the phone, your hand is sure to smother the signal to death.

hi guys, just bought the n86.

For some reason, NSU doesnt let me update from 30.009 to a higher version.

Secondly, I cant get the big clock powersaver. How do I get that?

Camera phones aren't meant to replace stand alone cameras, no matter how much development goes into them....

they will always be a "look at that, let me get a quick pic" solution...
not a "I'm going to be taking pics, better take my camera phone" option....
unless you just don't feel like taking a camera and will accept whatever you shoot...
like I did on my trip home....

:)

has anyone used ion batterytimer? does it really work well? accurate? and does "ion power saving" theme entend or work better than the nokia default "power saving: date" theme?

Thanks for pointing this out! Fixed this; let me know if you still have problems. Also realized the first video I linked to is NOT a zooming video as I said. It's just a video to show off the flash.

yeah, the lens (and any hope for optical zoom) is going to always cause problems. Especially with the slider (either n86 style or n97 style) It cuts the phone essentially in half.
Wasnt there a blueprint or plans posted awhile ago of a phone similar to the N93 that had the camera/lens in the hinge part of the phone. I still dont think the whole package was considered small.
Oh why didnt nokia release the N82 with 3G, I would have been happy for a long time.

I have not had the phone for that long, but I have some short comments.

Build quality IMO is excellent. The phone feels really sturdy and heavy (which I like) in hand. S60 doesn't seem to have improved all that much since I last had it, so I don't remember if the software has gotten faster or not. Not use to the screen size anymore so I can't say it will be my main phone. Funny that I thought the N95 screen was rather large...I guess times have changed :) The phone feels slow when compared to my 3GS.....other than that I will play with it and report back.

All in all I think it will be a good weekend phone for taking pics and multimedia.

The only problem is that I had to reinstall the wireless keyboard software. Not a big problem at all, and the phone also remembers the keyboard as an approved device now.

I think the white one looks amazing, and I will be extremely disappointed if there is no NAM release. Either way though, I still may pick up the black as it's the only S60 that has come along in a while that deserves to be my primary device. E75 was very close for me, but I just love the dual slider form factor-

So I just went from Rogers branded FW to NA generic and had nothing but problems with the Maps app, crashed and was completely unusable. Tried all the tricks such as deleting cities folders, reinstalling FW and maps app. Nothing, it would startup then crash. Also ovi store kept saying I logged out...irrating. I am regretting this N86 purchase already and have only had it for a few days. Rumours of lense scratches as well as the slider still being too loose fo my liking...
Good god I might go with the N97 mini instead. Sorry for the rant, and if anyone has suggestions please help.

I'm not referring to the .swf file of the clock. I mean the nokia power saver clock and date display. The n82 has it... It moves from one part of the screen to another every 60 seconds when the phone is in standby.

yeah its weird, when i try to access it with wifi it doesnt work, phone or computer but when i use att web it does, only problem is i have to use my n82, and being that im in the u.s i dont get 3g, so its sooooo slow.
