*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

I realize this is probably an impossible question to answer, because it's entirely personal preference. But why do people like the white version of the N86 so much? It reminds me of a white plasticy Mac laptop and seems cheap. I don't get it. I've just been wondering, because some people here seem almost willing to by the Euro version over the NAM version, just to get the white housing.

I went from Blackberry to using the E71 a year or so ago....without Profimail, I don't think it would have been possible. Many people say its an "ugly" application--but the fact is it works, and it works good.

Then why are you interested in buying this phone?

There are numerous other phones out there that have the same features as the n86.

For me the camera on the n86 has to be better than all other cameras that Nokia has produced to date.

Its the natural order of things.

I would like to see more of a real world comparison of the n86 and the n82. Give each to a couple and send them out on the town for the evening. Leave the camera in auto mode the whole time. (since most camera phone users rarely have time or the desire to tweak the phone to get optimal images)

Let there be pictures taken in full daylight, some of landscape, some of people, some of objects. Then take other pictures as the day turns to dusk. This will offer some low light comparisons.

There should be some shots taken in low lit restaurants and night clubs.

I tend to take these types of comparisons to be much more accurate than the staged office comparisons.

Why a pariah? It's a nice phone and IMHO more desirable than the N97, but when the argument comes to LED vs. Xenon it is clear which is better. So in terms of night shots, we are left with poor to mediocre performance again, but for everything else it looks good. In fact it looks to be the first N-series phone that is attempting a pseudo E-series build quality. Let's see how that goes.

As far as I know the camera didn't focus in the middle before. The focusing didn't change, only now it shows the point of focus.

Set the camera to 8mp. And keep it stable. I would try landscape when taking a picture of something that there is nothing specific to focus on.

I like the N86/N95 form factor, but this one's pretty subjective no? I suspect that many more prefer the iPhone's slim form factor.

The iPhone has geo-tagging.

Now I'm worried that they are not carrying the the real US version... :reallysad

Can anyone else who has purhased from Amazon chime in?

Any updates?

I did a hard/soft reset and format before updating firmware. I never did a reset after updating. I have a puzzle piece for the "My Nokia" icon. Is that what you were talking about? That icon doesn't do anything for me when I click it. I don't remember it on v11. The music icon never turned into a folder for me like some people have said.

I don't have that problem. I was wondering how to get rid of the Ovi Chat under contacts. I'm never going to use it. I don't see it under application manager.

I'm personally really liking the N86 design and it might be good contender as my N82 replacment, plus they have seemed to make some real work on the camera part(too bad with that xenon).
Just to repeat myself there wont be any really new from Nokia before the first Symbian Foundation phones start rolling out. As it's most probally based on S60 9.5 it will give real support for all the new tech around now. 9.4 or 5th edition like Nokia executive said is minor release for them and there wasent any announcment made even for it, just 5800. Thought time will tell how will the SF compare to OSX, WebOS and so on. To me 5th edition(9.4) isn't enough for real +500? smartphone.

Show me a video that defines it?

I've seen more pictures with the soft keys protruding more than that recent photo I posted and quoted twice now on this page by others.
