*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

Sounds like the iphone did something to your music. Have tons of music on this phone, none bought from any music store. Never been told anything like that.

Do remember a friend with an ipod touch telling me something like that after moving music from their pc to ipod.

Oh my god moe's bickering was bad enough in the N82 thread :disappoin

I do agree the phone isn't anything special in relation to the rest of nokia's lineup but I always wanted an N85...the build quality and other things held me back and it looks like this one might just be alright. :)

Can't stand S60v5 either and seeing as the N97 still doesn't have kinetic scrolling, this is ahead for me.

Thanks for the clarification. I think this is the last straw with t-mobile. I have had them for 8 years. Time to move on.

Can someone chime in on the screensaver issue?

More expensive crap with mediocre performance bumps coupled with some eye candy. Impressive 8mp camera but past that really nothing special. So sad...I guess with the poor economy and such they have decided to reduce R&D and just rest on the current line of phones with minor refreshes and performance bumps. I surely hope at the very least they clean up the poor quality control in production. Total disappointment is the only way I can sum the event up. If I was there I would say "Booo Hisss, guess the suits got it wrong". Just not sure who is in control of market development or innovation there but maybe its time for some fresh ideas. Hmm...at very least look on online forums or listen to customer feed back. Oh well maybe the N82 will drop in price b/c sure makes it a worthy phone in comparison with these so called upgrades. Not to mention the E71 will still be strong force way longer than expected.

/Looking at the new SE, Samsung and Black berries as the innovators (that statement is sad within itself)

the camera seems show "processing image" after v20. i just did a hard reset. it still takes a long time

when i have previous captured image ON; the "process image" word is on the bottom left corner of screen.

When I have show captured image OFF; the screen is blank and the words are in the middle of the screen.

I've owned a 5800 before, and it never takes this long. ALSO, i would say the video quality is better than n86 as of right now. which is sad :( 3mp vs 8mp.

my 3mp 5800 nokia video capture was not choppy and it didn't take very long to process between images and videos.

The n86 I have now, seem to take 6-8sec for 8MP images to process and the videos I record are choppy still. when I move the camera left, right, up or down, OR if the object i'm capturing is moving, there is lag. The object in the video would freeze for 1sec, then move to the left. then freeze again, and it will move left again.

the iPhone still doesn't have TRUE multi-tasking functions, it's still hampered in this department....
typing by touch will always be faster than typing and having to look at your keyboard.....
Symbian has never been a bunch of programs just thrown together, or a cut down version of a computer operating system placed on a cellphone...
as cell phone capabilities grew and continue to grow, so does the Symbian OS....
Apple is going to finally need to come out with other form factors to compete with the other companies...
right now everyone is still in the "wow" zone of the iPhone, but people will come to their senses and realize that it's the same phone rehashed....
you can't force all your customers to conform to one form factor....

sky is the limit with the Web OS and Android, they just lack the multi- media and the seasoned OS....
the G2 looks very good....

plus, 8 megapixel > 3 megapixel...
if you just want to look at it the simple way...

Is the price still going to be around 500 USD on launch, and is there even an NAM version coming? I haven't been keeping up with the n86 news.

Also, what's that button on the left side of the phone? Looks like it slides. Is that the same locking mechanism they implemented onto the 5800?

How long have you had your N86? Can you estimate how many times you have opened/closed the lens cover on the camera? I am curious how much time the average user has before this problem starts to show up.

I too canceled my order with no problems. They asked why and I told them that I ordered a month ago and other online shops have it and Nokia still has yet to ship.

I guess my impression is that the capacitor for the Xenon poses a special problem with space constraints, because it is cylindrical and therefore thick and that is hard to fit in a thin cell phone. Whereas the sensors are flat and need to get larger in a two dimensional flat sense, so it seems a little more hopeful that they might get crammed into a thin cell phone. Indeed with the N86 Nokia at least claims they have done just this.

I also think that, with small point and shoot stand alone cameras that have better sensors, what takes up most of the extra room is the retractable lenses with optical zoom and often pretty large battery packs. To me getting in a larger lens is the biggest prohibitive factor.

I imagine though that as the electronics for everything else shrink (which they do continue to do), there may be room for a larger lens. And even the triumphant return of Xenon (for those who care about it). Also when you consider the size of the lens in even the smallest point and shoot cameras, compared to the incredibly tiny lenses in cell phones, there's a lot of room for improvement with cell phones, without having to approach the relatively large lens size in these point and shoots.

Ok, you guys win, my n82 sucks, its the worse phone in the world, and takes the worst possible pictures in any lighting condition. The xenon does not matter. After all I really dont care what you think, but Nokia should care. Because they are the ones that are trying to win my business.
The only way to prove my point would be to buy a crappy led flash phone and take some real life pictures to show you the difference. I have read dozens of comparison reviews between the n82 and XX phone. Those pictures always show the xenon on the N82 allows the user to capture a better image in low light conditions.
So, For Me there is no comparison. I want xenon on my camera phone.

Well does your wife want an impressive camera or a qwerty key board?

For me a qwerty trumps camera, but man is it a good camera.
If your looking for a mint condition n86 Ill gladly put it up on bst.
