*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

Not having 4inch screeneed TS phone in +700 euroes segment probally dosent put them out of business, but those who are looking for that are probally better with other manufacturer before the Symbian Foundation phones start running out in 2H in 2009.

Nice comments. All I have done is answer your questions. I have done it in a civil manner. You seem to take any comment that is not the same as yours as picking a fight.

Gee...hope you didn't mean my last post?..but I think people here are uptight because this phone has been long time coming and they can't wait to get their hands on one. :p :p :p :clapping:

Oh, is this another E71 issue with the antenna on the bottom? How does it compare to the E71 in terms of RF?

Ah, that's probably what I read but wasn't sure what it meant.

How are you liking the dpad? Does it take getting used it?

In today's chat session I was told the phones would be shipping the middle of THIS month. When I pointed out that would be about now, the response back was "yes, this week". -Still not holding my breath!

You're right. I totally forgot that. But I have read space constraints is Nokia's reason they don't put the Xenon in the slider. And I've seen pictures of the capacitors next to the phones and they are pretty big. To be fair, the C905 is a much thicker phone overall than the N86, which is 16.5 mm. The C905 is 18 mm and widens out to 19.5 mm where the camera (flash and lens) are. The N82 for comparisons sake is 17.3 mm. So the N86 is thinner overall than the N82 and additionally loses space due to being a slider. Also on the C905 there is an obvious buldge to accomodate the camera mechanism.

So it does still seem that being a slider on top of being the thinnest phone of the lot, creates the size constraints that prohibit putting in the capacitor for a Xenon flash. So I guess the question is, do people want to give up the thinness or deal with a big buldge in one spot, in order to accomodate the Xenon flash. I bet that even if people in the forums here are fine with that, that for marketing purposes more people care about thinness than Xenon.

I think the issue with a 2.6" screen is the length, not the width. A longer screen would make it pretty cramped to get a D-pad and keypad and everything onto a candy bar style phone with the dimensions of the N82. The N82 is also 8-9 mm longer than the N86 and N85. Nokia seems to have a made a decision to try to make the phone smaller in all dimensions, rather than larger.

Let's be fair. You show a picture in a dark room with no flash and then with a Xenon flash. One picture is completely black, the other you can see a canister on a what I assume is a bed. But then you conclude that you couldn't due this with and LED flash, as if the black picture represents the results an LED flash would produce. Obviously you would see the cannister pretty clearly as well with the LED flash. So you really need three pictures, if you want to make a point about the LED flash.

Also, why would anyone want to take a picture in a dark room without any lights on? This is a totally fabricated situation. Even in a dark bar, as mentioned by someone in an earlier post, there are sources of light. It's not just a room with the lights completely out. So your example doesn't have much to do with real life situations. It's exaggerated to prove a point. Anyway, as someone else said, no one is arguing that the Xenon isn't good. There just saying there are a lot of benefits to be had from better sensors in low light conditions. This already exists in regular digitial cameras. So it's not unreasonable to expect it in camera phones. And the better the sensors, the less there are situations in which a flash is necessary. And that is good, as far as I'm concerned, because I think all photos that require flashes look really bad.

No phone...I don't know if I could pull that one off.

I hadn't noticed that the N96 was killed off from the site...

...I guess it went EOL...long before the N95 -_-

It's very friendly and well organised, but unfortunately I have no idea how the Bold handles email so I can't compare directly.

My only gripe is that it doesn't integrate directly with the inbuilt email, but it shows new mail notifications on the display and by tone/vibrate so it's only a minor inconvenience.

Maybe somebody else has experience with both and can compare them properly for you......

Tell me about it. but whatever they say though, I'm off to break my F5 key. (...because it'll get to my house quicker ...right?)

Hopefully we'll have the device by next week.

I was pretty much tossing between N86 and N97. Mostly because I was fearing an $800-1000 launch price on the latter. The touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard are what make the difference. Xenon flash would have been far more important, but 8-12megapixel for the flagship phone should have been there.

At the announced price, though, I can live with it, though, and very much looking forward to it. The UI is more important than top tier cam specs. I can easily see myself going to 3mp or so for most pictures, so the 5mp is ok as long as it's well executed. :fingers crossed:

Same Sh** different year. If this is their Non Touch flagship for the year, then that is really Sad. Havent we had enough of N95, N85, N96. Big Whoop about the 8mp camera. Even a fu***** 6 year old can be more creative than them. What is the major difference between the N95 (2 years ago) and the N86 besides the camera? Is this all you could comeup with in 2 years Nokia? thats a shame !!!

it fails in taking pictures?

Must be another person that wants to compare the N82 to a DSLR. Some how you people have gotten the impression that I expect the N82 to take the best pictures in the world, regardless of the fact that it is a camera phone.
If you had read any of the previous posts, you would know that I also own a Nikon D60. It takes great pictures, but I cant stick the thing in my pocket, and I sure aint going to leave it somewhere that it can be stolen. Thus, I have the n82. It's a camera phone, a gps, mp3 player, video player, etc, etc. But when I need to take a picture, often times my Nikon is at home and my N82 is in my pocket. Crappy as you may think it is, I have hundreds more pictures of my kids thanks to my n82.

Time will tell how well the n86 takes pictures. But judging from your posts, no camera phone will every take pictures to suffice you.

N79 is a nice device also, i speak from experience ive had them all and if the n79 had a larger screen at least 2.6 for gps purposes and video veiwing alone i would say get that because its a candy bar and less risk of build issues, that being said if u get a n85 with a good built then the n79 isnt even in the equation. :buddies:
Make sure you buy from a good company with a good return policy. :buddies:
