*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

I may be wrong, but doesnt the FCC need to approve any phone that could be sold or used in the USA? If it uses any of the frequencies available here. Just because a phone has FCC approval doesnt mean that it will have a US 3G or work on a specific frequency. The n82 did show up in FCC, it just didnt have US 3G.

Dang, do you have sandpaper covering your desk? :wow:
I've had my N82 for 16 months and it just shows a little wear on the slide that opens the lens cover.

Keep us posted as you delve into using the N86. I definitely have my eye on this phone if the price comes down another $50-100.

I think on many points it will be the best camera phone Nokia has produced but for night shots I doubt it will be much of an improvement. In everything else it is looking good.

In many ways I know what you mean. However, I think the E72 will be just as disappointing because it basically runs the same software. I will be keeping the N86 because IMO it is the only phone right now that has a great camera, video, and smartphone function. I will be using it as a weekend/vacation phone....the 3GS will still be my main phone.

In many ways, Nokia wanted to create a Mobile computer, but it's Apple IMO that has done so. It's the Apps and the Web experience on apple that really creates a great experience. Nokia still builds the better camera and hardware.....which started with the N95.

I disagree....Nokia a few years ago with the N95 and E90 were front runners. Now they are playing catch up with touch screen based phones and also camera capabilities. What phone has Nokia come up with lately that is innovative? I haven't really seen one, although I still believe they still offers the best all in one phone since S60 has really matured.....

Yeah I saw the slow *** search from years past and also watched it freeze there for a while as he tried to exit from search. Wow really pathetic.

...and I thought last year was a bad year for Nokia.

It's game over for Nokia and high end phones. They are officially the Walmart of smartphones now. Funny they now actually resemble the typical American perception of Nokia phones.

Ver. 11.043

No bugs found so far.. Pretty stable and snappy so far..

WoW.. Just loaded www.crackberry.com

got emoze, photo, contact, log open and still have 24MB of RAM..

That's a WoW really.. On the N85. It will load it with no problem but you will probably end up with 12MB of RAM left.

N86 loaded the site with no problem and its still snappy.. Very good RAM management..

led flash washes down the picture and quality isnt the great compare to xenon. i mean your buying a phone with 5mp 8mp thats digital camera quality. why would u throw a led flash and most people like myself uses the camera day and night. those phones are intended to some how replace a camera. thats your opinion but people who actually use the n82 for real photography its a bummer to not have xenon.

I agree that it defintely boils down to personal needs.

Although, to me it seems like the sole benefit of the N82 is the Xenon. If you prefer the level of illumination Xenon provides for flash photos in very dark settings, then you're not going to get that with the N86. Although it's worth noting that the LED flash on the N86 (as demonstrated in the AAS review), in combination with the more sensitive sensor and for subjects within a couple meters, is definitely a step forward for LED, although not on the level of Xenon. Also the N86 with it's LED flash appears to have better color accuracy than the N82 with Xenon, in those situations of course where the N86's flash provides sufficient illumination.

So the benefits of the N82 with Xenon are fairly specific.

It's also worth noting that the N86 appears to be able to shoot decent video in dark settings, using the LED flash for illumination. The N82 and Xenon can't do this at all. So for those who want to shoot video when they're out clubbing, which I imagine is becoming a more popular thing to do, the N86 is an upgrade from the N82.

i'm reluctant to do a hard reset, because i have helloox installed. But I also have my own cert and key. From what I've heard, I lose my hacked phone ability when I hard reset, and helloox isn't for v20 yet.

Releasing the N86 now is kind of pointless, it's taken so long to get it to NAM that we've already moved on the the new models announced at Nokiaworld, in my mind I'm already there, I'm not buying anything until I see what's new.
