*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

I know, I'm kicking myself for not having Qik on! Oh well, the second time (yes, there was a second time) she did it in front of a security guard. My friend was also with me, so at least there were witnesses.

In other news, I finally made my N86 freeze on me today! I was running: Gravity, music player, Step Counter, Nokia Messaging, Contacts, Free iSMS, Ovi Maps, and SymTorrent. It handled this combination for about an hour, and then it just stopped playing music all of a sudden and wouldn't respond to keypresses. It took about a few seconds to go back to the homescreen, and then it hanged again. I actually think it would have fixed itself if I'd given it some time. I tried to turn it off, but had to remove the battery.

Not bad for firmware it shipped with.

It wouldnt be such a big deal if that wasnt the one thing that Nokia has excluded from its camera phones since the N82.

Early indications show that the N86 takes pictures comparable to the N95 or N82 in daylight. Any low light pictures will leave the user wanting for more.

Nokia seems to be developing a pattern of removing key features from its phones. Some software, some hardware. IE Nokia Internet Radio (5800/n97), SIP/Internet Telephone, Xenon Flash.

You can compare the xenon flash to some other hardware features that people complain about.

1- US 3g. I remember a couple of years ago, where people were complaining about phones that were not US 3g compatible. Now, it seems 90% of all Nokia's offerings have US 3g.

2- Screen Size. A lot of people complain about the lack of progression with Nokia's screen size and resolution. Many have stated that a 2.4 inch screen on a new phone is unacceptable.

I could make the same argument about both of these features. You dont need 3G to surf the web, you also dont need a screen larger than 2.4 inches to use your phone. But, it makes the users experience a whole lot better.

And finally the most disheartening factor, is the fact that Nokia's competitors are offering camera phones with xenon (some with xenon and led)

I am not asking for Nokia to put xenon on every phone. But, I cant understand why they cant take the same camera/flash from the n82 and put it on any number of its latest phones (n79, n78, 5800)
After all if they made a phone with no 3G (US or Euro) The phone would be a total flop

I am still concerned that there wont be a NAM version of this phone. After all, Nokia never produced a NAM version of its previous "flagship imaging device" the N82.

regarding this method to turn off the sound, do you have to hack the phone first? or doing this method will just work ? also, does it work for all firmware? i heard that v11 is easy to remove the sound but any firmware after that, you cannot remove it anymore .. also, once i do this method and then i decide to upgrade the firmware, will this shutter sound tip still work? or will i need to do it again?

I actually like this phone, i liked the n85 i had too except for the build quality so i returned it. too bad by the time it gets released ill probably want something substantially different from my n95-4, if it was out now i would just get that and sell my nearly new n95

Someone who is on the N86 team at nokia specifically said the NAM firmware should be out this coming week.

No the memory card is slower than the phone memory, but it will not affect anything other than applications. The reason I said to use the phone memory for only essential applications+the ones that wont install to the memory card is because once you fill up the phone memory you're going to want to throw your phone out the window when Out of Memory errors pop up everywhere. Try to keep as much free space on your phone memory as possible.

Also stick whatever theme/ringtones it is that you use on the phone memory. Basically when you connect the phone to the computer or take out the memory card, any settings that involved files on the memory card go back to default. If you were using a theme you installed on the memory card then took out the memory card, it would go back to the default theme.

In either thread I started nothing BUT I WILL FINISH it,you got a problem with me then lets take it out side the forum, I will be happy to arrange a face to face with you tough guys just PM me the information I will be more than happy to travel!!! This thread was fun at one time and I had decent coversation with some good people until the trailer trash showed up!!!!

I got my refund yesterday. I ordered from Amazon again as they dropped to $400. This time it costed $405 after shipping instead of $475 when I preordered it. Newegg was cheaper a few days ago, but I think Amazon dropped last night. It saved me $75, because Amazon gave me $5 for shipping the defective unit which didn't cost me anything to ship. I hope the new FW arrives before my ETA.

So everyone with the NAM has their phone made in China?

Took these photos with the Nokia N86 from the NY S60 meetup. http://is.gd/uxhI

Depending on the severity of the wobble send it back, the N86 is very solid. There will always be some wobble in a dual slider, but like a mm or less. Mine has a bit but trust me when I say this phone will not be breaking. If yours is out of the norm send it back.
