*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

the allaboutsymbian show shed some light on nokia's stance in the USA. basically nokia has to change their business model to operate in the US successfully. they have to buddy up with the carriers. but this causes problems because nokia is practically a software service provider at this point; ovi, ngage, share online app, etc. so they are trying to be "open to anything", and carriers like att want them to be "closed to everything" more or less. nokia cant go around the carriers, they cant advertise on their own for unlocked market, cause that would just certainly not make the carrier too happy. so its a tough thin line balancing act. it does look like nokia doesnt care without looking at it from that point of view.

Hey, I was wondering if anyone with the e71 managed to get Nokia Software Updater 1.4.489en working. I changed my product code on my phone, but haven't been able to connect to NSU to restore my firmware.

I get : "Connection Error". Sorry, the Nokia Software Updater service is currently unavailable. Please disconnect your device and try again later.

Dell's got them on my Premier site for $390. I haven't asked my account rep if he can knock anything further off of it yet, because I need my money to secure a new apartment. After that, if I've got enough left...

I'm still thinking of holding out for the mysterious rumored QWERTY N-Series though.

It'll be $199/3 yr + data plan. No way around it. Rogers wont let you buy the phone just for calling for $199. They did that with the N95-4 here as well, you needed to get a "vision" plan (3G plan) to get it at $399/3yr otherwise it was $499/3yr on jst a voice plan.

They are called Robbers Wireless for a reason

I'm a little concerned that the cpu is 384Mhz, although it is an ARM-9 & ARM-11 compliant liek the N95 most likely. Is this the common speed of te N82/N95/N96??

Ok this phone is beginning to impress me! Yes its fast, hopefully it'll support BBConnect, and its sexy. I'm beginning to think that the Samsung BlackJack II is its design focus in terms of size - or close to it.

That Calendar though REALLY REALLY BLOWS CHUNKS! My GOD that is horrible layout. They better redisign that to something more efficient and powerful than the E90. It even looks like the E90s calendar squashed in size, and lacking in efficiency.
